Best I've ever seen
claraturnage13 December 2022
I've never cried at a Bob's episode before tonight. The music, the lighting, the twist, the character growth - all absolutely stunning. I rewatched it immediately after finishing the episode because I loved the way it made me feel. It evoked a nostalgia that I didn't know I had toward the show, my life, to what Christmas used to feel like. I made an IMDB profile just to say this: incredible job.

I've been a fan for years, and normally Bob's is my happy show that makes me laugh in the background while I make dinner or fold clothes or whatever. Tonight I couldn't keep my eyes off of the screen. The last ten minutes are perhaps the best ten minutes of any show I've seen. Thank you for the feelings.

Maybe the Best Episode of the Whole Series
ethanthoren14 December 2022
A phenomenal episode, and one of the best Christmas episodes I've ever had the pleasure of watching. It effortlessly displays every character's best qualities, and ties together not just what Christmas means, but what the characters mean to each other.

I don't normally write reviews, but my fiancée and I are big fans of the show, and we're absolutely floored by the quality of this episode. Everything from the characters to the humor to the music was executed flawlessly. This season has had multiple strong and emotional episodes, but none so much as this. I hope to see many more from the cast and crew, but if this were to be the finale of the entire series, I would be satisfied.

It's not easy to write a good poem
patrickxsherman13 December 2022
But after 13 seasons I'm not surprised Louise Blecher could pull it off. There's something about Bob's burgers... a commitment to quality character building, and a brilliant and consistent voice acting cast that makes yet another holiday episode to a long running show feel welcome and unencumbered. The show writers deserve much appreciation.

There are quite a few Bob's Burgers Christmas episodes that have become holiday viewing staples. This episode takes a new, more emotional approach. Leaning less on laughs, and proving to the audience that the Belchers have always been more than just a comedic bunch. They're family.

My love for my favorite animated show just got a little bit deeper.

A new Christmas classic
alexanderelwood12 December 2022
"The Plight Before Christmas" is an absolutely beautiful episode that encompasses all the finest aspects of Bob's Burgers. Without giving anything away, the last few minutes of this episode is the series at its most heart-tugging. I'm so glad creator Loren Bouchard wrote the teleplay for this episode. Much like "Some Like It Bot," you can tell extra love and care was put into it. I've been really enjoying season thirteen, but "The Plight Before Christmas" is on another level entirely. I'm strongly considering it as my new favorite episode of Bob's Burgers. It really does have it all: hilarious comedy, wonderful music, pretty animation, and some of the show's strongest emotion.

The best episode in 13 seasons!
tailsofthewind15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It delivers on so many levels. I'm not a huge fan of Christmas right now, going through a divorce, actually, so I am skipping the usual gooey, happy THIS IS CHRISTMASTIME entertainment as many people who are feeling a bit off this month might feel, and that is okay.

But, so far, I've watched this episode THREE TIMES! I won't give away any spoilers, although the writers have given a very loud shout-out and kudos to an seriously under appreciated profession and their (spectacular) subs. At the end of the episode (this was awesome), the music comes up, and there's no dialogue, but you can see all of our favorite characters telling each other how their night went. Oops. Maybe I should put a spoiler alert on my post.

Shout out to the volunteer parents and guardians of children as well!

And to everyone who is having a rough Holiday season, you don't have to have a happy one, but please have a safe one.

This was so sweet
emerzm13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if it was the music that played near the end that really sealed the deal but this was just such a sweet episode!

Louise does her best not to "care" about many things, but it was clear that this poem was important to her, because it was about her family. It's always sweet to see a more caring, vulnerable side to Louise, and her poem made me smile. I was a little worried that nobody was going to make it to her reading, so it was a relief when Tina showed up. Louise seeing Tina there, right as she read, with the music playing in the background really tied everything together and perfectly conveyed the holiday spirit. Although Bob's Burgers is a very funny show, some of its hidden gems are the episodes that are a little less focused on humor, and end up being very heartwarming.

Made me believe in christmas again
Saruxxa12 December 2022
To be honest this current season hasn't been that great, but this episode is surprisingly spectacular! It's probably my favourite christmas episode now. It's super wholesome and sweet and made me cry, but it also had many funny moments and typical wacky hijinks. Maybe I'm a bit of a sappy guy but I just really love these episodes where Bob and Linda try their best to support their kids and be there for these important events. They're such great parents it warms my heart! This episode also had a sweet sibling moment between Tina and Louise. Tina's such a sweetheart I can't-

This episode reminds me of what christmas is all about: yes there's stress, hurry and awkward school plays, but ultimately it's about being there for the ones that you love. Thank you and merry christmas!

Wow made me cry such a wonderful episode!
kyrbb13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bob's Burger's is so good with making me feel so sentimental. First of all this episode had me so stressed out for Bob and Linda cause I know how involved they are (especially our girl Linda) when it comes to their children and their activities. But wow this episode I did not expect but it was so warming. Loved seeing Tina's older sister duties that she continues to fulfill, Gene's musical genius, and Louise's softer side. This might be one of my favorite episodes. Gonna keep rewatching this til they come back in January it seems like haha Thank you Belcher family for such a wonderful Christmas gift!

Ps the girl's poem that went before the guy before Louise made me tear up too! Ugh this show knows how to pull at the heartstrings!

Perfect Belcher Christmas
CrazyCatLady300012 December 2022
The Bleakening has always been my favorite Christmas episode but The Plight Before Christmas is now most definitely tied with it.

It's sweet, funny, musically moving and truly highlights the love in the Belcher family.

Sorry. No spoilers here. To say one thing may give away too much. Except that Gene is still razor sharp with his quips, Louise is still raising eyebrows and Tina is still a Thundergirl. While Bob & Linda are trying to be the best parents they can be.

I think most parents/family members have had to deal with kids having events on the same night. It's sometimes an impossible situation, but the Belchers make it work in true Belcher style.

Made me misty. Did not see that coming.

Crying alone in my living room
natalieec-2059016 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is my new favorite of the series. It encapsulates what the whole show is about, a loving family. I don't think a Bob's Burgers episode has ever made me cry before but watching this made me sob, it is just so beautiful I love these characters so darn much. The beautiful moment when Gene saves the Xylophone show , the swelling music, Bob finally recording a performance (and showing Ms Murkin😭) so cute. If you love Louise like I do you will love this episode. They did a fantastic job of showing Tina's empathy, Gene's musical talent and ability to take charge, and Louise's soft and creative, and often vulnerable, personality. So beautiful.

Perfect
user-147-99757213 December 2022
What an amazing episode. It is absolutely the best of all of the characters that we love. Some of the appeal of this show is the wonderful family dynamic. Nobody is perfect but the love is absolutely real. This episode embodies everything I love about this show. I am so glad to see things back on this track. The last couple seasons have been average and I still love the show but this episode put things back on the outstanding level of the first few seasons. It gives me hope that there are many many more great episodes to come. I love watching the season specific episodes and this adds to the amazing list of excellent Christmas episodes!

Boring, not funny, not emotional
johny-5971029 April 2024
I'm a diehard Bob fan, but this episode is seriously overblown in terms of quality and emotion. It is very boring and fast-paced. It's a nothing burger really (a bob nothingburger). There were not a lot of jokes, and the ones that were there weren't great. Gene was in a high pitched voice the entire time for some stupid reason. I can't bring myself to care about what happens with Louise at the end. I did not cry. I did not feel anything. Reading these reviews, I thought this would be so emotional and interesting when it was really just boring. Maybe I could've given this an 8 if this wasn't hyped up as the best episode, but just because of that I'm taking it down. Go watch Bob Day Afternoon instead, or the Order Games.

A Bob's Burgers Top 10
andyodom-2757112 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode really hit me right in the heart. In the best way possible. "Show Mama from the Grave" hit me too but this one was perfect. Don't get me wrong, I love when episodes focus on the comedy and many different, crazy plots but here we have an episode that encapsulates everything Bob's Burgers is about: family. Bob and Linda working their hardest to be there for all three of their children and the kids giving the shows of their lives. I was most impressed with the final few minutes of the show where Bob is watching Gene take charge and nail his performance and Linda pulls off "Tina's" costume to reveal that Tina had snuck away to make sure that someone was there to see Louise perform; I actually cried as the sound of xylophones ramped up and Tina appeared in front of Louise and gave her the last push she needed to read her real, heartfelt poem. Tina knew someone needed to be there and since the realization of how important this poetry reading might be to Louise, she wanted to forego her holiday performance all together so Linda could leave to see it. But instead of waiting for Linda to get the chance, she wasted no time to run all the way to the library herself and support her sister. Louise's poem was exactly what I wouldn't have expected from her: loving her family in the most candid and special way she can. This is what family is about, being there for each other and realizing when to give up something so they can gain.

I have to say that this is going to turn into a Top 10 episode for me even years down the line.

favorite holiday episode
emilynblev14 December 2022
This is such a stunning episode and might even be my favorite ever. Bob's Burgers is my go to feel good show and this one made me feel just that and more. Like most have already said, it brought me to tears. The growth displayed in all three of the children was such a nice change of pace (don't get me wrong, I love when the kids act like kids too). During the last five or six minutes there is minimal dialogue but you can feel the ease in the characters through the soundtrack and their glances to one another. I created and IMDb account just to rave about this episode. Incredible Incredible job with this one.

don't understand the 4.2 at all
thelostsoprano12 December 2022
I literally made an account just so i could give this episode a solid 10/10. It's still funny as hell like a typical bob's burger episode (maybe not as funny as other episodes but that's fine!!) and it hit very very close to home. They absolutely nailed how chaotic and silly the plot was and it was a nice balance with how endearing and sweet it was too. The ending with the closing from mishima was the best part though and actually ended up bringing me to tears 😭😭😭 i was surprised to hear the song associated with a christmas episode but it was such a pleasant surprise that was executed beautifully. Great episode!

Best Bob's Burgers episode ever
ukgreek25 December 2022
Just everything about this episode, both light and funny, and incredibly compelling. There was nothing dark about it except perhaps what it's like for parents to be torn between obligations to do their best for their children. And it didn't dwell on that, or try to wrap it up in a nice bow -- it was just there to be observed as a fact. Louise's face plainly showed what it meant to her to have her family's support in taking that big step. But mostly, the use of Philip Glass's String Quartet No. 3, Mishima: VI Mishima/Closing -- and how it was used -- was absolutely brilliant. The episode was truly perfect.

Brilliant Animation!!
amybyrne-7563813 December 2022
The animation this season is phenomenal! I've noticed more detail and depth in the background, and true to life movement from the actors*. The impetus to leave a review was the movement of the fingers of the substitute music teacher at Gene's concert. Yeah, kinda weird, but I notice the small details. (And I was a Band Geek + teacher's pet who got to conduct a song in our winter concert 1986-ish) Similarly, the motion of the actors' fabric/clothes is realistic.

For some reason, so much of what I've seen this season is different in the universe of animation, and it's groundbreaking.

* The Belchers would 100% see themselves as actors and not characters or cartoons.

The first Bobs Burgers' episode I've cried at
bm23019920 March 2023
I was no expecting to be sobbing by the end of this episode! I love Bob's Burgers with a passion and while there's been touching moments I've never cried...season 13 broke that. The episode is one of my favourite Bob's Burger's episodes ever and the BEST christmas episode of any show ever! The last 10 minutes or so felt like an Emmy award winning sequence and I won't spoil it but what Tina does made me break down in tears. A truly beautiful christmas episode that shows why Bob's Burgers is one of the best tv shows out there even 13 seasons in! A christmas classic that I'll be watching whenever I need a good happy cry.

So relatable
kellielulu12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Incredibly Bob's Burgers manages to capture the desperation and panic and guilt that you can't always show up for family. The effort Bob and Linda make to be there for each child. In this case it's impossible because all three have events at the same time. Bob finds other parents are struggling to do the same at Gene's Christmas concert. Why don't they spread events out more?

Linda is at Tina's play and trying to help get the kids in their costumes.

They only find out at the last minute Louise is reading a poem she wrote at the library. Tina realizes it is not the one she claims but a more heartfelt one. Bob goes to the wrong library trying to see two of the kids and gets back to see Gene . It's actually quite amazing how well the kids are and how well the substitute teacher manages to fill in . Bob and Linda feel terrible they will miss Louise but when Linda helps Tina out of her costume she sees Tina has left and another girl took her place.

Louise is about to read her more shocking poem but sees Tina and reads the one about her family and Linda also shows up.

Later Louise reads it at Christmas.

A really sweet and heartfelt episode. I love how Tina figured it out and shows up for her sister . Tina really is a good big sister.

One of the best episodes!
dulce8168512 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't usually write reviews, but this episode really hit me hard. I just finished watching this episode and it made me laugh with some of Gene's one liners, but the ending made me cry and I'm still crying while writing this. This is one of the reasons why I love this show so much. You see how much the Belchers love each other and are there for each other. I'm an older sister and definitely resonate with Tina, so I know what it is to see when a sibling needs you. This is one of the best Christmas episodes I've ever seen and it's a great one to watch with the family. Still one of my favorite shows!

One of the Series' Very Best...... 13 Seasons In.
The_Coffee_Frog8 April 2023
'Bob's Burgers' is my favourites show of all time, it also remains funny and clever, despite how long the series has been going on for, but even I am surprised that the series has remained not only consistent across its 13 seasons, but still manages to bring out series defining episodes.

This episode, 'The Plight Before Christmas', is one of those, it's an episode that captures everything that is amazing about 'Bob's', it's funny and smart, with fast, snappy dialogue, but it never loses sight of its heart, and this episode has one of the series' most heartfelt moments, which, just so happens to involve my favourite character in the series, Louise Belcher.

It actually made me tear up, something, clearly, I should expect from a show that's feature debut did the same, as well as a couple of other episodes from the series' run.

As always, the voice acting and animation are just incredible, the collection of voice actors for the series are top-notch.

So, thanks to the entire 'Bob's' team, for everything they do make this show happen.

Best Episode
filmlover10-738-5067379 January 2023
This episode really was something. It was so impactful and touching and sweet. I started to cry by the end of it.

A must watch and highly recommended. If you're looking for heart, community, family and love, you should watch this. The most I ever felt moved by an episode of bobs burgers. The writers deserve so much more praise for this. All around a must see.

Linda, Tina, bob, Gene & Louise are all written so beautifully. It makes you think about your own family and how important family is.

Be ready to cry, laugh and feel emotions you didn't think a cartoon show could make you feel. Watch this!

Three Kids Performing, Two Parents, One Sweet Episode
Kittylogue15 December 2022
It would not be Bob's Burgers, nor the Belchers a Family is Chaos Takes A Holiday. This episode pulls the family closer as chaos sadism is determine to hurt not only the Belchers, but all those about them this sacred night. It makes for that one episode. Where viewers may deny they cried if they failed; Where Viewers may deny they cried if they succeeded -- yet they do.

The episode aired days from when the Jimmy Pesto voice person was banned (essentially fired) from doing his voice; and in turn, Jimmy Pesto, The Jimmy Pesto's Pizzeria had gone silent. Tiny had a Thunder Girl's performance; Gene was in Ms. Merkin's Musical Production where she was to conduct. Chaos shows up as Louise announces she is reading her poem at the Library this same night - and needs a ride to the Library.

Linda and Bob are trying to decide who will rush over to listen to Louise read her poem. Then, Chaos puts Ms Merkin in the hospital placing the school musical at risk; The Thunder Girl production is overwhelmed with only one person managing fifteen girls. Both productions in chaos, one needs to help, other needs to be there for emotional support.

Louise looks as if she will read her serious poem without family to appreciate it.

The Climax happens as Gene and other 6th Grade Xylophone Performers play Ms Merkin's composition with a substitute music teacher with a surprising, the most touching episode of Bob's Burgers to date.

Families can relate to conflicts where parent(s) must decide to make a sacrifice then try to do a miracle and avoid sacrificing, missing out to achieve a just as important goal. This episode is timeless. It does not have to be just before Christmas. It holds up any time of the year with family anxiety and pulling for the family while things so terribly wrong This episode goes one step farther than the other episodes over. The last 11-years. It is Bob's Burger's Charlie Brown Special.

Or, maybe,.. The Charlie Hashbrowns Special with hashbrowns on the side instead of fries.

This one is very special, very sweet on the heart.

A long time coming
apricotsforsale14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really love this show - and I have rewatched basically all of it these past few months. This was honestly a really important episode. There are lots of feelings and emotions about the Belcher family that I have developed as a viewer that really were handled so beautifully in this episode. Everyone has their moment and I did get really emotional towards the end. I was practically screaming at the TV telling Linda to leave the stupid play and go be with Louise. I was so distracted with my emotions towards Linda that I didn't even see the ending coming. Tina really deserved this moment of being the big sister- and Louise equally deserved this moment of realizing that it is okay to grow up and not be as crazy or as immature- all while having her secret passions for poetry be validated. Gene, Bob, and Linda also had good moments this episode- but I found myself focused on Louise and Tina. Really really beautiful episode.

Beautiful
melodyfho13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched this episode several times already. This is easily my favorite episode in the entire series. Every time I've watched it, I've broken down sobbing. It's absolutely beautiful. I love the light humor throughout, how nothing seems to go right, and how relatable and human this episode is. I love how much the characters have grown in their own ways. How Louise is beginning to grow up, how Gene is stepping into his own as a leader, how Tina gives up the spotlight to be there for her sister when she realizes her parents can't be there. It tugs at the heartstrings at just the perfect moments. And the music playing throughout. This episode deserves an award.
