- "The Voice" - Blind Auditions #8 - Sept. 25, 2012
The blind auditons continue.
First up is Sylvia Yacoub a teenager from Michigan by way of Egypt. Her mother wanted to be a singer but she wasn't able to pursue that in Egypt. She sings "Only Girl in the World," by Rihanna. She's fine, good energy, and serviceable pop voice with some power but potential pitch issues. Christina turns first, followed quickly by Blake and then Cee Lo. She chooses Christina.
Next up is I.J. Quinn a country singer from North Carolina. He works on his family's pig farm. He says his voice is very high and he kind of sounds like a girl. He claims he's ready and confident but then admits he's nervous. He sings "Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai. He seems nervous and a little breathless and his voice is kind of strident and he has pitch issues. No one turns. Adam says "with love" that he thought he might've been a girl but that aside he says he feels him but he felt like it sounded was straining.
Next up is Charlie Rey who is a "smog technician" in a garage owned by his dad in Long Beach, CA. He thinks the shop is destroying his voice with all the carbon monoxied so he's hopeful. Carson goes there to give him his invite to the show. He sings "Home" by Michael Buble. He starts off very softly and tenderly. He seems nervous but has a nice grain to his voice and a sweet falsetto. Blake turns first. Adam follows. Charlie falls to his knees. He chooses Blake.
Next up is Amanda Brown who started as a gospel singer but Radiohead turned her on to pop music. She has worked as a background singer for several artists including a tour with Adele. But she wants to come to the forefront. She sings "Valerie" by the Zutons. She is good, sassy, strong. Cee Lo is the only one who turns.
Next up is Yolanda Barber who is a 55-year-old school bus driver by day and has been singing for 45 years, gigging here and there and on cruise ships for last ten years. She sings "Get Here" by Brenda Russell. She has a nice, deep, smoky voice with some grit and power. She is great and no one turns. Adam calls her amazing. Christina says at this point they're all looking for specific sounds but she is amazing. Christina says she doesn't need to driving a school bus with that voice.
The final auditioner of the night is Cassadee Pope a 22-year-old who fronted a rock band called Hey Monday, that toured the world with Fall Out Boy. Pete Wentz sends her a video message offering support. She sings "Torn," by Natalie Imbruglia. She has a girlish voice that gets stronger as the song builds so Blake should be turning any second. Adam goes first followed nearly instantaneously by Christina and Blake. Cee Lo finally turns as well. She finishes and starts crying immediately. Christina and Adam fight over her pushed the button first. She chooses Blake.
