Reference is made to Virgil Middle School. This was the middle school actually attended by writer and director R. Christian Anderson in Los Angeles during the 1960's.
During the argument, the camera shows only Gail for a slightly uncomfortable duration, then switches to Howard. This was to intentionally show the unease each participant might feel during such a confrontation.
The film was shot on November 6, 2010, the morning following the announcement of actress Jill Clayburgh's death. Director R. Christian Anderson dedicated the film to her memory.
The last scene with Vivian coming in to meet her father was shot in November 2011, a year after the first scene was shot with Howard and Gail.
The film is edited in a "sun-faded" and slightly saturated color filter. This gives the film a tableau-like appearance which recalls that an argument between former lovers is an ancient narrative. It also simulates stage lighting, since this story was actually extracted from a full-length stage play which screenwriter R. Christian Anderson wrote previously.
