Great game for good players
murphy-a-richard4 June 2013
This game is great I don't see how people can rate it anything below a 7. You will at least get 100 good hours of play time even if you aren't the type of person who likes farming/grinding end game lvs or gear.

Positives: The skill point system allows for very unique builds and makes you feel you are your own character instead of everyone feeling like they are the same as every other caster/support/melee.

The Currency system although a little harsh on the common player is the way it is to keep the economy from being inflated. It will keep you playing a game that doesn't feel like everyone has the same gear and there are no upgrades to be had.I would like to see a small increase in high orb drops personally, to increase crafting which is a great system that gets used to little because of the rarity of high orbs.

One of the best parts of this game is the devs and their communication with in the forums and their players about the game. They take what players say weed out the criers and change the game for the better of the community. They also post weekly about plans and changes coming ahead and 90% of the time keep to the dates they set.

Problems: GGG knows about there issues and most problems are being fixed and or worked on. This is a beta so give them time.

Dysnc is what bugs most players, this will be fixed by release and shouldn't be a problem.

PvP has no reward system yet or incentive to play and compete against other players. Hopefully a ladder type system will be set up before release even if there are no rewards but bragging rights. Looking forward also to cutthroat leagues which have only been tested in small races.

Word of warning: This game is made for the common player to play through and enjoy, but is made for hardcore/skilled players. A newb will not be able to compete against a skilled player, a player who plays very little will have bad gear. This is the way it should be, if you want free gear and for the game to remove playtime/skill this isn't the game for you past beating it in merc.

Maybe the best REAL free to play game ever?
davidkmyers3 June 2013
The ARPG at its best, give it a try I say, no pay to win at all. (Like most free games) If you are an old time d2 player, you will enjoy the HC leagues with FFA loot options. Good times!

Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. We're a small independent team of hardcore gamers based in New Zealand and have created Path of Exile as the game that we'd want to play ourselves. It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy, deep character customization, competitive PvP and ladder races. The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win". Path of Exile is currently in Open Beta! If you'd like to play, just create an account.

Excellent Hack and slash RPG. Extremely dynamic game play and combat, as well as a very intricate skill system. Unique items are astonishingly well done, and can completely alter a build. The days of Auction houses that completely destroy a game are gone. We are back to the ways of old. Trading to get what you need adds an interesting aspect to the world of wreaclast, as well as making the game much more social than many hack and slash rpgs of the past. Overall this ranks with the best of the best. Bringing you back to the year 2000 and making you feel like your a kid again, and best of all ITS FREE TO PLAY. NOT PAY TO WIN.

IT IS DIABLO 2 LORD OF DESTRUCTIONS TRUE PREDECESSOR!!

How Diablo3 should be
sebastyle23 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When i play Heart of the Swarm (Starcraft 2 expansion)early this year i got the feeling that Blizzard was messing things up, later i Play D3 and that just confirmed my fear.

So after i finished the game's history i feel like playing Diablo 2 ... and so i did.

Diablo 2 was in the days a breath of fresh air, there was so many possibilities on the game that am still creating characters to test builds. The game pace, the plot and the simplicity of the game itself helps to make the experience fully enjoyable. But has a huge lack of graphics quality or HD resolution, which makes you go and look for alternatives.

And then i met Path of Exile, start playing it and get caught on this immense reality where there are so many references to Diablo2 that i don't know why it hasn't been stop by the guys on Blizzard.

The truth is that there are so many RPG (or ARPG) games out there that finding one with this quality is a rare thing.

The beauty of simplicity, the lineal plot and the infinite tree skill make this game a Must Play for sure.

I just hope Blizzard take the lead again on this field, because Path of Exile is nowadays the one choice i would make to play Diablo 2 sequel, it feels like, it looks like it and its better than the real sequel.

I'll just give 8/10 because of the lag and the desynchronization that you feel sometimes, everything else is just fine.

Regards

The best MMOARPG on the market.
freecss-family5 August 2014
Path of Exile brings the ARPG scene to a whole other level. The depth and complexity is next generation. You end up throwing your money at GGG to support them through their ethical micro-transactions and supporter packs because you feel so guilty playing the game for free. The team at GGG excel in all job roles. The support team is definitely the best out there. I contacted support about a problem and got a reply within 1 minute and my problem was solved. The GGG team are active with the players. What other game do you get a member of the development team welcoming a new player on the forums and Reddit? The is answer is none.

Okay game ruined by desync issues.
dshbeb3 June 2013
Really sub par game with huge desync issues that make it impossible to play. Add in the fact that the community suffers from hardcore elitists, this game is NOT fun. Pretty much like every other ARPG in the market save from the skill system that is directly from FFX. If it wasn't for desyncing issues and the horrible community, this game would be decent. Might as well try it for yourself though since a huge benefit is that it is free to play. Cash shop is full of cosmetics and none of that convert to currency junk that games like guild wars 2 does. Classes feel homogeneous though due to the skill tree. There really any sense of identity between them. Temporary leagues provide a nice break but get boring after a while.

10% XP Loss on death absolutely kills this game.
tekhedpnd19 September 2023
If the xp loss on death wasn't a thing I would rate this a solid 9/10, but this mechanic is too harsh a time sink. At higher levels (80+) a single death could cost you 15 mins or more of your time grinding back up to where you were. Deaths when you have your defences at max are almost always unexpected, and typically just a one shot. This especially hurts when you are just moments from leveling. God forbid you enter an area where you didn't read every single modifier, and just happen to miss that one was enemies reflect a type of damage you use (or didn't even realize was part of something you were using) and you just one shot yourself. Incredibly disappointed.
