Really Enjoyable!
collectorofsorts24 January 2023
I found this online and I'm loving it. It reminds me of Deadliest Catch in the earlier years before it became nonstop drama.

Basically, it's two ships that each bring a greenhorn (new/inexperienced) worker onboard for a three week trial. If they pass the trial period, they get offered a full time job. And the pay is three to five thousand dollars weekly (the crew gets a share of what the catch sells for).

They're friendly folks doing hard work. It's not for everyone. Some will pass and some will fail. But it's really enjoyable watching everyone work together and just trying to earn their living. I would highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys outdoors types of programs.

WE NEED SEASON 2 !!!!!!!! Loved watching the show

The intensity of the circumstances while long-line fishing out of Iceland is something most people would never dream of even attempting. Major props to all of the crew aboard these ships. They are all legends. Caitlin is a really tough chick and sets a great example that if you believe in yourself you can fight through anything. I'm going to have to say though, I really enjoyed watching Andrew from Texas. It seemed like he got a long quite well with the crew. They were all laughing at his cowboy boots. The storms were impressive, I would love to see more of Iceland and learn more about the fishing there.

So interesting

Go watch this everyone. Going to get all of my friends together and watch this one weekend. Should totally have a season 2 to keep this up!!!! I don't even fish but somehow I stumbled upon this show and watched it. And i loved it. And nothing holds my attention for more than 5 minutes. Catching a huge fish was soooooooo cool and I swear to Bob it was like he was strangling the fish in episode 3 (unsure of the time) but it was really cool. If this show doesn't continue I'm going to be extremely sad. Makes me wanna go fish super inspiring. Very cool since Ican't go toto Iceland to see what it's like.

FUN watching Andrew "Texas" Neystel

The ice cold catch, follows somewhat how the deadliest catch was filmed, except more intense, more drama, and very intense fishing for Cod in extreme weather conditions. Iceland is one of those countries that can be beautiful and scary at the same time. Watching the show you learned some good information about how incredible Iceland is to visit and traditions about fishing. Fishing in the Arctic Ocean has challenges in itself, but when the Valdemar came into contact with a hurricane (Arctic Cyclone) resulting in 120 mph winds and over 100 foot swells, even the most experienced a fisherman were at their limits! Both greenhorns Andrew "Texas" and Katlin from the UK put forth great TV appearances and were very entertaining to watch. It's on almost all streaming platforms along with the premier on Discovery and Discovery +. Friends and family have been tuning in faithfully becoming addicted to watching the newest reality fishing show and we all want more!!!!!

We want to see more Andrew!

This show is amazing I have binged the entire show in less than a week I can't wait until Discovery adds more episodes. Andrew is by far my favorite! I want to see more of him! He's funny I'd love to see the American Cowboy in every episode! I love a good underdog story and nothing would make me happier than watching him do well. The fact that he's from Texas and hates country music makes me laugh. I would love to see him take control of the music. I'm so interested to see what he would put on the speakers. I hope he makes enough money to have a successful charter business I would love to go out on his charter!

It reminds me of my friend

Warning: Spoilers
Matt Walsh asked, "What is a woman?" And still apparently hasn't figured it out. Ice Cold Catch made a series but let me give an alternative title to this Ice Cold Catch series. "What is a strong person?" And they answer it. Caitlin Krause is a strong person.

So it looks on face value like a fishing show where they get to wow you with the dangers of an exotic job with no WHS rules and a bunch of cowboys racking up cash and blowing it on fun. It has a twist where they have apprentices "greenhorns" who are put on the ship to try their hand at it. We are used to these scripts and can usually predict how they go.

Enter Caitlin Krause (Caitie), she's a 5 foot nothing late 20's pommy who has a damaged body from a car accident when she was younger and has just finished working on exotic yachts as a service attendee. Caitie is likable from the get go and you want to cheer for her but you know deep down that she just won't be able to do it.

There are other greenhorns but it does feel like this was Caitie's story and the others weren't as much main characters as much as they were a benchmark to measure Caitie against. The crew and captains on the ships were equally as important as the other greenhorns in terms of making the series work but without Caitie... It never would have made the screens.

The series gives us that feeling that we used to get form the big catch shows, it makes us appreciate the scenery of Iceland, it makes us really like the culture of these ships and how they do such difficult things. Then it gives us something deeper, I liked seeing some of the bravest and strongest people do seemingly impossible things without any screaming, flexing, chest pounding or testosterone screaming antics. Don't get me wrong, some of these brutes look like true Vikings, but even those guys are mingling the same way with some really small and actually disabled colleagues. The disabled colleagues equally able at the job. They have a way to show how tough they are by not showing how tough they are. It shows that life is mental and physical and both are equally important. I think that if I had more time to think about this then it would come down to ego. And family. And what is strength. And how to use pressure or stress or trauma to your advantage.

As the series goes on, we get to see how the culture on these boats is very family orientated, the crew have family ashore bit also on board. To be in this boat family, a lot is asked and most don't have what it takes to join. The crew are very patient with the new recruits because they were there once and it will be a painful experience for the applicant, who is more likely to fail than not. The high point is that we get to watch Caitie push and push and push and against all pre conceptions, the people on the boat actually start to see her as one of their own and they need to keep pushing her, but you can see, they are cheering for her. Watch for yourself to see what happens, the spoiler is that Caitie is a strong person, that's why they see her early on for what she is. Just like my friend Morgan, we see her for what she is.
