When casting the hottest action stars for John Wick: Chapter 4, Scott Adkins was a natural choice. Director Chad Stahelski has tried to get Adkins into all the John Wick movies, but due to scheduling conflicts it hasn’t worked out until now. Cast as Fat Killa in the new movie, Adkins is almost unrecognizable under the heavy makeup, gold grill, and fat suit. In real life, Adkins is devilishly handsome, so much so he often plays villains. He’s also built like Adonis but even more yoked. It’s a body he’s earned through a lifetime of martial arts practice.
In real life, the Adkins family are butchers by trade. Adkins was born and raised in England, and his first exposure to martial arts began at age 10 with Judo. When he was 13, he was the victim of a robbery, and that experience hardened his resolve. After that, he dedicated his life to training,...

The “John Wick” franchise has a reputation for razzle-dazzle filmmaking and serving as demo reels for some of the world’s finest – or at least most promising – action movie stars. “John Wick: Chapter 4” is no exception, with Donnie Yen taking center stage alongside franchise star Keanu Reeves, as Hiroyuki Sanada and Marko Zaror lend prestige and support. Bringing the opposite of “prestige,” at least in terms of the role he plays in the Chad Stahelski-directed actioner, is Scott Adkins.
Adkins has made a name for himself as one of the preeminent filmmakers in the world of direct-to-consumer (DVD/VOD/streaming/etc.) action movies. The likes of Adkins, Michael Jai White, Tony Jaa, Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren hold court in low-budget genre flicks helmed by directors like Isaac Florentine, Jesse V. Johnson, Christian Sesma, and the Kirby Brothers, that emphasize quality action sequences delivered with visual...

Arriving in Thailand straight from the set of Netflix upcoming Wu Assassins and a little movie named John Wick 3, Mark Dacascos gets behind the wheel and back in action for his latest project, The Driver. The film is directed by Wych Kaosayananda, whose credits include everything from Balistic: Eck Vs Sever, Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge, and Angels which was reborn as Zero Tolerence. The film features fight and stunt choreography by martial arts maestro Brahim Achabbakhe whose skills in front and behind the camera have been brought into play on Man of Tai Chi, Boyka: Undisputed 4, Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, Donnie Yen's Big Brother and the upcoming Abduction with Scott Adkins and Andy On. The “space / future prison” genre has a long and honourable history. Well, okay, neither of those things are true, but there are certainly plenty of them. From the classic “Escape From New York”, to 1990’s “Moon 44”, to “Alien 3”, both “Fortress” movies, 1997’s “Moonbase”, “Assault On Dome 4”, then getting further down the quality scale to “Starfire Mutiny” and “Total Reality” (there are plenty of others), audiences have been delighted by the implausibility of sending your worst criminals into space when it would be a great deal cheaper and easier to put them in a vault at the bottom of the ocean, or something, for 40 years.
The latest addition is “Incoming”, which first piqued my interest due to its casting of Scott Adkins. Adkins is B-movie royalty – you might recognise him from small roles in “Doctor Strange” and the second “Expendables”, but although his filmography sounds like...

If you’re one of the many, many people who bought and enjoyed Security, the Die Hard-esque actioner starring Antonio Banderas – be prepared for even greater things from Banderas’ latest action flick, Acts of Vengeance.
Why? Well this time round the direction comes from Isaac Florentine – he of Savate, Cold Harvest, Us Seals 2, Undisputed 2 and 3, Ninja, Ninja: Shadow of a Tear and Close Range fame…. Yeah, quite the action-orientated CV right? Florentine is one of those action directors whose films I, personally, will watch sight unseen, knowing that I’m in for a fantastic fight-filled time. If you aren’t versed in the ways of Florentine yet I urge you to rectify that Asap!
Not only am I excited to see Banderas and Florentine teaming up, but Acts of Vengeance, which sees a fast-talking lawyer (Banderas) take a vow of silence, not to be broken until he finds out who...

There are no guarantees in cinema, but one thing you can typically count on is Scott Adkins delivering the ass-kicking goods. He’s a legit action star capable of creating truly impressive fight scenes when given the chance, and while he’s been around for almost two decades now some of his best work has been in the last few years. Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning and Ninja: Shadow of a Tear are two of the best action films of 2012 and 2013, respectively, and his skills are the main reason why. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t seen either film as they’re both essentially straight to DVD titles, but you might recognize Adkins from his appearances in bigger fare like The Expendables 2, Zero Dark Thirty, and the upcoming Doctor Strange. The problem? With the exception of a brief stint in The Bourne Ultimatum the films most people have seen him in are ones where...

Meet some of the best directors working today, who haven't gone down the blockbuster movie route...
Ever find it a bit lame when the same big name directors get kicked around for every high profile project? Christopher Nolan, Jj Abrams, maybe the Russo Brothers? With so much focus on blockbuster films these days, getting a major franchise job seems like the main acknowledgement of success for a filmmaker. And yes, both the financial and creative rewards can be great. But there are plenty of other directors out there, doing their own thing, from art house auteurs to Dtv action specialists.
Here are 25 examples.
Lee Hardcastle
Even if you don’t know his name, you’ve probably seen Lee Hardcastle’s ultraviolent claymations shared on social media. He first started getting noticed for his two-minute remake of The Thing, starring the famous stop motion penguin Pingu. Far from just a cheap one-joke mash-up,...

When RZA – co-founder of Wu-Tang Clan – stepped behind the lens for the first time back in 2012, he introduced the moviegoing audience to a pulse-pounding actioner in the form of The Man with the Iron Fists. Fast forward a little over two years and we’re now standing on the verge of the sequel’s arrival on DVD and Blu-Ray, and We Got This Covered has an exclusive clip to share with you for The Man with the Iron Fists 2.
Picking up the pieces from its predecessor, the martial arts follow-up will once again center around Thaddeus (played by the aforementioned RZA), who finds himself drawn into battle once more despite his best efforts to put his violent past behind him.
Rounding out the international ensemble are Dustin Nguyen (22 Jump Street), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (47 Ronin), Eugenia Yuan (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend), Pim Bubear (Ninja: Shadow of a Tear...

RZA's "The Man With the Iron Fists" hit theaters in 2012 and earned $19 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million. Despite the fact that Universal Pictures clearly lost money, it proceeded with a direct-to-dvd sequel. Today we have a trailer for "The Man With the Iron Fists 2," which is coming to DVD, Blu-ray and VOD on April 14th. RZA reprises his role as the enigmatic blacksmith Thaddeus for the sequel, which follows a mysterious stranger as he leads a rebellion to liberate a Chinese village from its oppressive overlord. The cast includes Dustin Nguyen (22 Jump Street), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (47 Ronin), Eugenia Yuan (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend), Pim Bubear (Ninja: Shadow of a Tear), Carl Ng (New Police Story), Simon Yin (Ip Man), Ocean Hou (Man of Tai Chi), Grace Huang (The Man with the Iron Fists) and Andrew Lin (The Man with the Iron Fists). Well it’s that time of year again – the one where websites across the globe churn out Top 10 list after top ten list. So why should we be any different?! Yet whilst we may be following the predictable end of year lists, I can guarantee that my list is anything but predictable, featuring films from across the globe: including the Us, Canada, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and even good old Blighty!
This year more than ever there has been film after film that knocked it out of the park for me – which is why my Top 10 list has Two sections: the Top 10 and then the pick of 35(!) more brilliant movies (I would have loved this list to be a Top 45, honestly). So what’s my criteria? Well it has to be a movie I’ve seen this year, one that was released this year, i.e. making its UK debut,...

Universal Soldier began in 1992 before suffering from some tawdry sequels. Then John Hyams revived the franchise in spectacular fashion...
The Universal Soldier films are a strange case of life imitating art. Much like how series protagonist Luc Deveraux is killed in action then resurrected into something post-human, Universal was a pretty standard 90s action film which crashed and burned when it came to sequels, but became something unique and beautiful when it was reanimated for the straight to DVD market.
It’s a hushed secret among genre fans, but Universal Solder 3 and 4 (or possibly 5 and 6, it’s complicated) are some of the most remarkable action sci-fi films of the 21st century so far. Yes, really. I actually watched the series backwards when I first saw them, after being blown away by Universal Solder Day Of Reckoning and deciding to work my way back, and Roland Emmerich’s perfectly acceptable 1992 blockbuster...

English Martial artists Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa have been added to the cast of Kickboxer, a remake of the 1989 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Chinese director Stephen Fung is set to direct.
Adkins is best known for his work in The Bourne Ultimatum and Ninja: Shadow of a Tear; Jaa is famous in Thailand and is also known for Ong Bak.
Ufc welterweight champion George St. Pierre, stunt man Alain Moussi, and Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista are already set to star.
Moussi will star as Kurt Sloan, a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he learns the secrets of the kickboxer to get revenge for his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista). It's hard to replace the Muscles from Brussels, but the reboot of Jcvd's cult classic "Kickboxer" sounds more fun than Jason Momoa in a top hat. Scott Adkins ("The Legend of Hercules," "Ninja: Shadow of a Tear") and "Ong-Bak" star Tony Jaa are in talks to join an already jam-packed cast of fightin' folks. That includes Dave Batista from "Guardians of the Galaxy," Alain Moussi from "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and former Ufc champ Georges St-Pierre. Stephen Fung ("Tai Chi Hero," "Enter the Phoenix") is directing.
Kurt Sloan (Moussi) is hell-bent on avenging his brother's death. Naturally, he heads to Thailand to learn kickboxing, just so he can kickbox his brother's killer, Tong Po (Bautista), to kingdom come. Adkins might take on the role of Kurt's older bro, while Jaa is likely to play Kurt's Muay Thai mentor.
"Kickboxer" is still in pre-production limbo, with no slated start date.

I'd like to start by apologising to Scott Adkins. I've been aware of his existence for several years now, but in truth, I've always dismissed him as a low-rent action star. For the record, he still is a low-rent action star, but isn't that how all the greats started out? The Expendables 2 should've been a bigger platform for Scott, he certainly outshone Van Damme in every conceivable way, and his bruising encounter with Jason Statham proved to be one of the films many unapologetic highlights. Ninja: Shadow of the Tear looks and sounds like the kind of movie I would usually avoid, but positive word of mouth steered me in the right direction. Thank you, positive word of mouth. The plot is inconsequential, but we'd better gloss over it anyway. Adkins stars as Casey Bowman, who returns home one day to find that somebody has killed his wife and unborn baby.

We spoke to Scott Adkins about awesome martial arts epic Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear (out on DVD and Blu-ray on May 12 - expect a feature on the site soon) and while we had him, we decided to ask about another epic martial arts franchise, The Raid. If they absolutely have to remake Gareth Evans' incredible Indonesian action flick in the Us, we can't think of many better people to star in it than Adkins - so we asked him if he was aware of the project. Are you a fan of The Raid and, if so, would you be interested in being part of the remake? ...

You pretty much know what to expect from a film called Ninja--but what about a sequel to a film called Ninja? Well, as you can imagine, there are no surprises there either. Such is the case with Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, otherwise known as Ninja II. If you are a sucker for flying ninja stars and katana swords slicing through throats, then you will be incredibly satisfied with this movie. However, if you want a little depth, originality or--heaven forbid--some actual acting on the side of your ninja mayhem, then you will need to look elsewhere.

Yup, they’re making another one. And this one, we’re told, is a prequel. I dunno why, but apparently there is a lot about the 2010 movie’s futuristic tournament fighting world left to explore, so instead of going forward, they’re going backward. Hey, whatever works, I guess. The man who will be fronting the latest “Tekken” movie is none other than Kane Kosugi, son of the legendary Sho Kosugi. The younger Kosugi has carved out a very nice career for himself in martial arts films in Japan and abroad. He can currently be seen fighting alongside Scott Adkins in “Ninja: Shadow of a Tear,” a film that has plenty of ninjas, but oddly, not a lot of shadowy tears. According to Kotaku, the prequel will now be called “Tekken: A Man Called X.” When the sequel was announced almost two years ago, the original title was “Tekken: Rise of the Tournament.

Though the script may not be the most sterling work of literature you've ever come across and the production was forced to work within a strictly limited budget Isaac Florentine's Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear stands as one of the most exciting and engaging American action films in recent years for one very simple reason. Florentine and his star of choice, Scott Adkins, are simply the most potent pairing of director and star working within American action film today. It's the worst kept secret of the film world, really, as the pair have done this now a handful of times with the Undisputed films, in particular, winning a vocal and loyal underground fanbase, but it bears repeating over and over again until the day comes...

Good news for fight fans emerged from the world premiere of Isaac Florentine's Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear at Fantastic Fest last night. In the midst of the Q&A session a fan asked a question on the mind of many fans: What will come first for Adkins? Ninja 3 or Undisputed 4? Adkins, clearly unsure how much he was allowed to say in public, simply paused and smiled at the crowd until producer Frank De Martini picked up the mike and delivered this little nugget: "The Undisputed 4 script is being written right now by David White and it should shoot in the spring. Unless Scott wants too much money."So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Undisputed 4 is happening and -...
