The Matt Lucas Awards

Warning: Spoilers
David Walliams had already done really well for himself after Little Britain in solo projects, so it was good to see the other half of the comedy duo get his own, maybe like King of... a possibly pointless idea, but a funny one. Matt Lucas presents this entertainment programme where celebrities nominate a Lucas award for a category that other award shows do not award, whether they be daft, weird or funny, and it is up to Matt, or a celebrity panel, to decide the winning nomination. These categories for awards have included Smuggest Nation of People, Worst Football Song, Ghastliest Holiday Destination, Utterly Useless Knowledge, Weirdest Celebrity Crush, Dullest Pastime, Most Regrettable Musical Genre, Baddest Habit, Most Underwhelming Event, Crappiest Beatles Song, Most Redundant Technology, Most Unbelievable Bible Story, Most Depressive School Subject, Most More-Ish Food: Bacon, Pringles and Coconut Ice Cream, Most Baffling Campfire Song, Least Comprehensible UK Accent, Most Miserable Day of the Year, Most Annoying Queue, Most Irritating Children's TV Character, Most Meaningless Phrase, Most Ridiculous British Law, People You'd Kill If Murder Was Legal, Second Greatest Bald Man of All Time, and the final award is always for a guest's Hidden Talent. Guests on the show have included: Jason Manford, Graeme Garden, Henning Wehn, Sue Perkins, Richard Madeley, Marc Wootton, Louis Walsh, Germaine Greer, Clive Anderson, Esther Rantzen, Chris Tarrant, Johnny Vegas, Maureen Lipman, Julian Clary, Alex Horne, Griff Rhys Jones, Ruth Jones, David Baddiel, Ardal O'Hanlon, Adil Ray, Robert Webb, Eamonn Holmes, Josie Long, Gyles Brandreth, Holly Walsh, Mark Watson, Richard Bacon, Jason Byrne, Shappi Khorsandi, Susan Calman, Andy Parsons and Rhys Thomas, and Judges have included Olympic bronze medal winners Alex Danson, Anthony Ogogo and Kate Walsh, Grange Hill actors Michael Cronin, Lee MacDonald and Gwyneth Powell, Blue Peter presenters Peter Duncan, Janet Ellis and Peter Purves, The Apprentice contestants Stuart Baggs, Raef Bjayou and Katie Hopkins, EastEnders stars Leonard Fenton, John Altman, Peter Dean and Nej Adamson, and puppets Sooty, Sweep and Soo. It is funny to hear the realistic views on most of the category nominations, if you can relate to or recognise them, and it is just a good bit of fun if you like the real awards ceremonies. Very good!
