Stuttgart hospital nurse Silke Lopez dies from cardiac arrest after her night shift, despite reanimation attempts by colleague Eva Dubinski and duty doctor Dr. Werner Schäffle, who rules death, until Martina Seiffert, alerted by paranoid senior patient Inge Häberle who heard the nurses row, finds she was poisoned with the drug Narkobarbitalin. Newbie detective Nelly Kienzle proves an utter unruly nightmare for autistic IT specialist Rico Sander whom she must drive but rudely takes over questioning Cuban fresh widower Carlos Lopez, who contradicts himself. Eva Dubinski minimizes the fight but lacks an alibi and frequently phoned with ambulance paramedic Heiko Bachmann, who profited from his silence about an illicit affair.
