Usually, when a series is this beautifully shot (70mm HD), is beyond educational, perfectly narrated, and shows a world most of the traveling population would never see, because airports are almost non-existent, there is an immediate rush to bring it to Blu-ray, or even DVD. But that never happened.
I originally viewed this series on my 50" HD flat screen, back in 2012, when HDNet... now AXS TV, picked it up when they didn't have a clue what direction they were going. It was the best thing that network ever has shown, and probably will ever show.
I have never been crazy about the programming choices on Mark Cuban's network. They used to let Dan Rather do news shows, and at the same time, they'd air shows like "Drinking Made Easy". Now poor Dan does "The Big Interview", which is 'anything' but big.
However, their attribution of "Baltic Coasts" along with "The Alps", which was equally as well shot, was a score for me I'll never forget. Baltic Coasts was a real sleeper. One might see it in the guide and go on to something else. I'm happy I bumped into this series, and I can't say enough about it. As beautiful as the scenery was, the thing I liked most about it, was examining the lifestyles of the folks that live in those regions.
They all seem to have one thing in common: They are very happy. They aren't crammed into a city sweltering with disease and corruption. They tend their crops, or work in their shops, and have strong family ties and values. This series is a must for anyone looking to see the closest thing to paradise this planet has to offer, and see it in the best HD a camera and a TV can provide with today's technology.
If it ever goes to disk, BUY IT!
