Sex & Nudity

  • The song "Smell Yo Dick" is played inside a car as a comical effect
  • A reference to anal rape when discussing the film Deliverance.

Violence & Gore

  • Early on, the family sees a skinned, mangled animal carcass on the side of the road, ripped up enough that it's difficulty to determine what exact animal it was before it was killed. The size is somewhere between a rabbit and a medium-sized dog. The shot of the carcass is brief and the camera does not linger. This is the only blood or gore shown in the movie.
  • Character's bodies are twisted and folded when 'beamed' up into the spaceship, it is very brief and bloodless but brutal. For one character, we see her head fold backwards until it rests against her back, her arms fold backwards by the elbows, and finally her whole body folds in half backwards, each are accompanied with loud cracking sounds.
  • Some gun shots, all but one of them offscreen. We do not see any bullets hit a person or an alien, just a door/wall.

Profanity

  • Song "Smell Yo Dick" is played in a car for comedic effect.
  • Few uses of shit.
  • Religious Profanity: The Name of Jesus taken in vain a few times, as exclamation. "Oh my God" and "God" used in various scenes during the movie.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • After the first attack occurs, the terrified characters are either being attacked, on the run, hiding, screaming, or recovering from an attack for the remainder of the running time--the last hour of the movie. Also, the "attacks" come without any warning and are accompanied by blinding blasts of light and a loud roaring noise, so there are quite a few jump scares.
  • The last few minutes of the movie show an abduction from the abductee's point of view, it only takes the ship seconds to fly so high you can see the planet Earth. This does not end well (the boy who is filming gets tossed out and obviously dies after a fall from such a great height) we see the landing but no blood or body. Still, the scene is intense and scary enough that it will probably frighten some viewers.
