- Jim Schafer is a 34 year old man and, having found out that he died in a horrific accident and life went on without him, is made to re-examine his place in the universe before he makes an important choice.
- Jim Schafer wakes up in a mysterious waiting room occupied by eccentric looking characters from different time periods and walks of life. With no memory of how or why he is there, he asks the receptionist only to be dismissed and told to keep waiting. Confused and dejected, Jim attempts to leave through a nearby door but is stopped in his tracks by some unknown force. Eventually he is led to a small office and told to sit down opposite of the man it belongs to - and here it is revealed that he actually died, and must embark on a bureaucratic process to determine how he will spend his afterlife. On the other side of the desk is his Demise Consultant, Stanley Woland, who is one case away from his retirement. But this is quickly proven to be the most difficult case of his career. We witness the stalemate between these two: one declines to cooperate out of shear stubbornness; while the other refuses to pander out of selfish pragmatism. Unable to comprehend how it's all over, and how his whole existence was inconsequential, Jim is forced to recount his life's biggest regrets. Stanley, having performed his role for longer than it even matters, and completely numbed to the idea of death, has to be reminded what it is to be human. Whoever wins, everybody loses. That's life.—Erbil Shaban
