No need at all

Warning: Spoilers
"Need" is a Canadian live action short film in the English language from 2008, so this one is already over a decade old now. It runs for over half an hour and is from many perspectives a one-person project, at least when it comes to key fields like acting, diredting and writing. The one in charge here was Tijuana Layne and she is still making movies today, also acting in films, but apparently only because she keeps casting herself. But I shall not judge. Let us focus on this one here instead. Well, I thought it was really bad and I can see why some of her other projects have really low scores. This one here does not have a rating at all because so far it has not reached the amount of five voters, but I am sure things would not look differently otherwise. It does look really amateurish. this is the story of a woman who is a sex addict and about half of the film is basically her having intercourse. The rest is talking and car driving and pretty bad dialogues. Woth "bad" I mean the way they were written and how the lines are delivered. It is not just Layne who struggles, also the other actors. It feels really wooden most of the time. Cannot come up with anything positive here at all. The film's perhaps biggest problem is that despite being so disappointing, it still takes itself seriously from beginning to end and it feels as if all the people working on this project really thought they came up with something of high quality, something that was touching and made a difference from a creative perspective. The film does no such thing. I have seen many student films and the majority of these is certainly superior to this one here. If I could at least say it was all rookies working on this one here, but this is not the case. They are just void of talent I suppose. The consequence is that this film at only slightly over half an hour feels like it has the lengths of a 2-hour movie. But it does not have the rewarding moments. It's failure from beginning to end. Highly not recommended.

I just saw a great amazing film" NEED" by Tijuana Layne

My curiosity sparked after reading HORST IN TRANSLATION review of the film NEED ,I was expecting after reading this review to watch a bad film...to my surprise I ended up watching a beautifully written and powerfully acted film on female sexual trauma .My other surprise was this film was done by a woman of color. And after reading HORST IN TRANSLATION review I felt as an artist of color myself that the review I read was a personal attack on a woman of color's artistic voice .Enough said on mister HORST IN TRANSLATION review. I don't want to give him any more press on an unfortunate and not supportive stance in an industry that definitely needs a more positive inclusion of people of color in the film industry .But I want to continue to say which is most important to acknowledge: Miss Tijuana Layne for her courage ,her talent ,her extraordinary vision as an artist who must be recognized .The film NEED brought me to a greater understanding of women dealing with sexual trauma and especially childhood sexual trauma . This film brought clearly a strong emotional connection to this issue .It was subtle ,emotionally heart wrenching at times ,raw in its truth .Even though at some points it was difficult to watch ,it made me connect to the main character .It is a film to be watched ! All the actors were strong in their portrayals. Last note : please take the time to watch this film .The 32 minutes is more than worth the time. It is an education and an extraordinary journey that Miss Layne allows us to come along with. Tijuana Layne is a brilliant actor and film maker.
