Well worth seeing and much better than its current rating.
Mister-Creeper7 April 2015
I must say, I wasn't expecting much going into GIRL HOUSE. I was expecting your average, run-of-the-mill slasher film that didn't offer anything more than I've seen a hundred and one times before...but I was okay with that because I'm a dedicated horror fanatic. I grew up in the 80s. I love slasher films! Even the crappier ones. But thankfully, GIRL HOUSE was not crappy. Nor was it your average, run-of-the-mill slasher film. That's not to say it didn't have its faults, which is fine. I've only watched a handful of films that I feel are without fault.

The great opening sequence set the movie up nicely. I don't recall there ever being a dull moment throughout the film, so the pacing was very good. Of course there was a lot of nudity and that alone made moments that otherwise may have been dull, not dull. The acting was also much better than I expected. Everyone did a pretty good job. There was more blood than I thought there would be, and that's always a good thing. I don't want to say anything that may spoil something, so I'm gonna end this brief review shortly. I will say though, if you're a fan of slasher films, then you should see this at some point. You won't be disappointed. Even if you're not a fan of slasher films, you should still see it. Maybe you're a fan of nudity? I don't know. You could do much worse than GIRL HOUSE. Give it a shot.

B grade slasher flick with A+++ technical values
A_Different_Drummer19 June 2015
May not be the most exciting slasher flick in history but it may possibly have the highest production values.

Even the script is solid. Not mesmerizing. But solid.

Star Ali Cobrin has one of those odd faces -- she looks familiar to the viewer as if a composite of 4 or 5 well known female stars had been squeezed into one.

The biggest problem with the film ironically is how little sex, nudity or even slashing there actually is. In effect, this is a "cheat" in that viewer expectations are raised and there is no payoff.

But gosh-darn is this is a well made little film.

Well made and entertaining slasher
MattyGibbs12 January 2016
A young girl gets a job as a web cam performer at a house. When an unstable client is humiliated by them, he seeks his own sort of justice.

I can't say I had much hope for this film and it was only in desperation that I turned it on. However it proved to be a pleasant surprise. It's well filmed, gory, very tense and quite scary which I find is a relative rarity these days.

Although the script is pretty standard, where Girl House succeeds is that it makes you care for the central characters. Rather than some empty headed bimbo the lead character Kylie ( played well by Ali Cobrin) comes across as intelligent and likable as does her boyfriend Ben ( a good performance from Adam DiMarco) who is not the stereotypical jerk. You find out pretty early who the killer is and also why he does it. He is suitably scary and again it's another good performance, this time by Slaine.

I found this pretty entertaining modern day slasher. Although not in any way groundbreaking this is a decent addition to the genre and worth checking out.

A surprising slasher gem!
recklesscow14 March 2015
I didn't have high hopes given the premise and thought it would be a cheap excuse to show more porn than actual horror, but boy was I wrong: as a fan of slashers, I can say this is quality stuff! There is some really slick direction going on in some scenes ala other films like You're Next where a scene will suddenly transition into slow motion during the action, the acting is surprisingly impressive given the fact these actresses had to be comfortable showing some skin at various parts of the movie (that usually tends to attract lesser-quality actresses), there is some nice tension, some great and inventive kills, and a truly hair-raising killer. The mask and outfit are crucial in a slasher film, and this one gets it right. The killer also runs (heck, he hauls butt at various points) and is physically foreboding, all adding up to a menacing villain. Treat yourself to one of the few good slashers to come along in quite some time because I know I enjoyed the heck out of myself with this one. P.S. The score is great, too!

Ambitious film
verrucktcarlos23 August 2016
I saw this last night because the plot really caught my attention, and I was very pleased with it. This movie tries to do something different, many people may say it is the same as all slasher films, but this ''girlhouse'' thing is something I had never seen before, and it was very entertaining. The killer was creepy af, they definitely payed homage to the Texas chainsaw massacre because when the killer wore the mask it was extremely similar. Nonetheless, it has its flaws of course, it could have been pulled off smarter, this movie doesn't escape from some clichés, like knocking the killer out and instead of just finishing him, they just run away and hide, I mean they filmed a hammer he had attached to his back, she could have grabbed it and just killed him right there; also, some of the acting could have been better, but I really enjoyed this film, the main character was likable and not stupid, actually, there weren't that many stupid moves in this film, would watch it again, totally.

Looks risky, turns out safe.
begob18 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Well made sequence at the start of this - so we've got the makings of a psycho.

Roll forward 25 years, and we've got a moral dilemma involving sex and money, where a slimeball entrepreneur draws the "wholesome" heroine into a virtual whorehouse. So it raises the issue of the stupid debt ordinary people have to take on to live any kind of decent life.

Was hoping this combination would produce something good, but it's really just two old ideas - straight slasher + celeb/porn reality.

After about 30 mins the story starts counting down the numbers. The entrepreneur becomes passive, and the final conflict includes the heroine miraculously overpowering the one-note all-powerful psycho.

Basically this was a good pitch hijacked by genre - could have been much more. If they added satire on sex-as-commodity and let the entrepreneur go beast alongside the psycho, it might have been a good horror.

There was good humour and irony in the reactions of on-line viewers, but overall the values are perverse (selling sex is free market - no limits, dude!) Also the hero is almost irrelevant to the plot: could have been folded into the computer Einstein guy - bad writing. Without the nudity and gore it's just a Scooby Doo thriller for dull Reaganites.

Beautiful looking cast, and very well shot. Music OK.

Watch it and forget it.

An above average slasher flick
jtindahouse3 July 2015
Patience is a virtue not often found in slasher flicks. Usually it's rare to go ten minutes without someone meeting an unfortunate fate at the hands of a mass murdering psychopath. 'Girl House' breaks the mold in this instance. It has a rather unique structure to it where the story and characters are introduced to us for an extended period of time with little else happening. This might sound like a negative but it really wasn't. All the mayhem is saved for the final quarter of the film (barring the open scene - which was very well done) and it's a fun ride.

The characters, particularly the main one Kylie, are a lot more likable than you usually get in this type of film. The extra time given to the viewer to get to know them really pays off in this way. The sexuality of the film is always apparent but never overbearing and it certainly never becomes anything you could refer to as an "erotic-horror". The killer was intimidating enough to warrant a few decent scares and overall the movie is of a good quality. An impressive little entry into the genre that you will enjoy if this sort of thing is for you.

A waste of time...
rizkiagustian10085 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A slasher film, set in the digital age of hackers, the internet, and modern technology; concerning the "camgirl" culture where dudes stare and chat with chicks who strip and do all kinds of fun stuff in front of their web-cams. All set in a high-security mansion controlled completely by computers, so that the girls can do their jobs safely away from creeps, stalkers, and psychos. That sounded like a film with potential, a film that would be interesting. But no, it's all just wasted potential and a big boring waste of time.

The film has no character to it, it felt very vanilla. The killer; who is called Loverboy, was such a clichéd and boring character. There was nothing intriguing about him at all. He had no special method of killing, no style or signature, no interesting motive, no interesting lore or background, just plain boring. The murder scenes were also lackluster, they had no build up, no intensity, just this fat dude appearing out of the blue and a killing people who do very little to fight for their lives. And boy are those scenes quick, some of them are even off-screen.

Story-wise it's also very basic; this good girl student needs to get money for school, she joins this web-cam porn website and meets the other girls, bonds with them, this psycho starts watching her, something goes wrong, and you know what happens next. It's really predictable and boring. There are no interesting twists or turns, no interesting characters, and characters who seem like they would have more to do in the film and end up doing nothing. Being predictable is fine in this genre, I wasn't expecting much in that case, but being boring is not fine. And that was the ultimate sin of this film, being boring. Hell, the way it was all resolved just had me yelling at the screen like, "That's it? THAT'S IT!? REALLY!?" It felt like a huge waste of time.

In the end it's about what you want from this type of film; what does the film provide. You like blood and gore? There is so little of it here. You like Sex, Ass, and Titties? There are some here and there but they don't even show the protagonist nude for some reason. You like a fun and campy horror flick? Nope, none of that here, almost completely humorless. You want a good story? HELL NO, none of that here. You want creative murders? All boring and basic as hell. You want an intriguing killer? Not here as well.

The film is as the title says, a waste of time. The only reason I gave it a rating which isn't 0, is because the production design and the cinematography are at least competent, it doesn't look cheap. And those reasons are not enough for me to enjoy the film. Far from it.

It's a better slasher flick than I expected
KineticSeoul26 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Hmm well for a straight to DVD and Netflix slasher flick that deals with webcam girls. This movie is actually a pretty decent flick. I was also surprised with the production value of this movie. So if you are a audience member that enjoys watching blood, violence, nudity and a okay narrative when it comes to slasher flicks. This movie just might work for you. Some women and feminist might be against some aspects of this movie. The first half is the build up with the setting and the characters, including a not very important romance aspect to this movie. I also liked the direction they took with the slasher villain this time around. He is the type of misogynistic creep that becomes vile and evil because he got rejected and taunted by women. You probably met people like this, people that hates girls because of past hurts and bad experiences with them. Thus, although they don't get driven to what the slasher masked guy does in this movie. They still turn into jerks that put down other people and discourages others because of their own insecurities. Hating on women and detesting guys that are handsome or more successful than they are. The slasher parts in the second half wasn't all that original but it does get the job done and it wasn't executed terribly. It may however offend some viewers, because it does sort of send a message that being a pornstar is a cool way to make money by embellishing the whole thing. So yeah, besides that I thought this was a alright slasher flick.

Just Another Girl in Peril Movie
twotrybe18 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was hoping GirlHouse would stand out among the numerous teen slasher films but that wasn't the case. It's just another typical girl in peril film. Nothing new with this even with the supposed digital tech thing that doesn't add to the equation.

What annoyed me most was the use of headphones in this film. Why of why do these idiots where headphones all the time when you know they are about to get killed? The tech guy wears headphones while walking though the woods. One of the girls wears headphones while working out. And one of the girls wears ear buds to bed. Is that the formula to these types of movies, wear headphones because you're about to be murdered by a Jason Vorhess type killer.

And here is the other annoyance, why must all cellphones be put on vibrate when just about nobody does in real life? It's just dumb to think that this chick would put her cellphone on vibrate while carrying it in her purse. I even seen this in other films where somebody has their cellphone on vibrate while sleeping and phone goes off and they don't hear it. Why have it next to you at all if that's the case.

And here is another annoyance, when they do attack the killer, why don't they do follow through? They hit the killer one time and knocks him down. FINISH THE JOB LADIES!! But NOOOOO!! He of course gets up and kills again, it's only after there is one lone survivor do we see this happen. He gets his head bashed in repeatedly to end the carnage.

This was so disappointing and you wonder why people talk back to the screen when you see imbeciles being killed. You hope they hear you scream at their stupidity. The Girlhouse factor in itself was boring as well, there was no eroticism in the girls' performances that would have at least made this worth watching. It's like having strippers who don't strip.

Girl House
a_baron10 July 2015
"Girl House" has been called a slasher film for the digital age. The theme was done to death before the turn of the Millennium, though here there is a new twist, a couple of dudes are watching the carnage live on-line but are unable to warn the victims as one by one they are done to death by a disgruntled weirdo who has been driven into a frenzy by a cruel joke. Actually, it wasn't that cruel, but stranger things have happened in real life. In March 2014, a woman was given a 12 year sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court after throwing acid in the face of a former friend. Mary Konye went to incredible lengths, disguising herself as an Orthodox Moslem woman, totally veiled, tailed her victim from the Underground station, and then attacked her. The motive was a throwaway remark that most people would have forgotten within a day or two if not an hour or two. Here it is not a remark but a caption on a photograph that unhinges a guy who although clearly highly intelligent is not exactly good looking, and is somewhat lacking in social skills, not to mention short tempered.

Okay, this dude is not just mad, he's insane because there are better things to do with a houseful of nubile young things than murder them, but if this tale has a moral it is never be unkind to anyone, even by accident. Or alternatively, once you knock the bad guy down with a golf club or a hockey stick, hit him again, and again, and again, and again...

Ali Cobrin Shines
drivemenutzlong16 March 2020
Better than average horror -slasher- thriller flick. The villain is a cross between Mike Myers(Halloween) & Leatherface (TCM)> Lots of horror tropes with interesting twists & nutty visuals in some respects. Cast & scenery is great. Ali Corbin isn't exactly Jamie lee Curtis but give her time! She has the luck & the looks, she just needs that one big break. This movie's totally worth seeing. Time well spent.

Show us the goods already!
WalkinDead731923 June 2015
After I watched the trailer and the opening scene of this slasher flick I had no illusions about what this movie would be. Sadly, The filmmakers did. After a solid opening scene, the movie lingers way to long before showing us what we all sat down to watch. This is ironic given the premise. There is even a line in the movie about a site customer not logging on the see a "shoulder". So why make us wait and wait and wait to get to what we all paid to see? When the lights finally dim and the "show" finally starts it's not bad. In fact there's some pretty good slasher cool. But by then I was already bored and couldn't even fully appreciate it. Better writing or even better editing could have improved this movie greatly. Was hoping for some cool slasher fun but got lukewarm slasher ehhhh.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're a slasher fan it's probably still worth the watch. If slashers aren't your thing you can feel free to LOG OFF.

Tired Old Plot....Badly Executed
arfdawg-131 May 2015
The "Plot:"

A HALLOWEEN-style slasher for the digital age.

It follows a beautiful young college student who, needing money for tuition, moves into a house that streams content to an X-rated website.

After a deranged fan hacks in to determine the house's location, she finds herself in a terrifying fight for her life. Note that once again, like some other bad movies.....the good reviews on this site are from people who ONLY reviewed this movie!

Hence they worked on the film.

The movie had promise with some really hot girls with giant mams and sexy strip teasing voyeur sort of stuff.

But wait...it's a PG 13 strip! OMG.

When the acting sucks and the plot is derivative, you need some real nudity to keep your attention.

Hit dressed girls just don't do it.

It was boring.

slumber party massacre + internet porn = girl house
Plasticbender9 March 2015
What an equation, but it is true. surprisingly the movie is good. Usually I don't write reviews. On seeing this movie and its rating(5.4). The movie is worth to see at least once. It has old school slasher concept with new some flavor. the story is nothing but rebooting of slumber party massacre, still it is not boring and watchable. The director presented nicely to this new generation audience. Good acting and nice scares plus some fresh boobs and nice asses.

positive points: new internet porn theme. good acting.

negative points: the killings are not new. nothing innovative.

Ali Cobrin was good as always
chrismackey197223 February 2015
First of all, let me say the quote at the beginning by Ted Bundy was odd. Was the writer(s) blaming porn for some people killing others? Really? I'm not a defender of the porn industry, but blame Ted Bundy and others for their own actions. Blaming porn, music or Hollywood for what others do is such a cop out. Whoever allowed that Bundy quote should be ashamed, and he/she should try understanding what personal accountability is. Ugh! Moron. The movie lost a star just for that.

I like Ali Cobrin. I saw her in Lap Dance, and she did a good job in that role.

I thought it was kinda silly that they made it as though she would've gotten 100% of the viewers on that site. For what? Doing "junior high" stuff, as one of the guys said? I don't think so. The other girls were equally as hot, and they seemed to be doing much more of what a real webcam audience would want than Kylie did, but she got 100% of the viewers? Come on. At least make it somewhat realistic.

I don't watch movies for gratuitous nudity, but if they're making a movie about webcam girls, and they're having all these guys drooling over this new hot girl, I think they should probably show the movie audience why she's so hot. One of the girls said "Nice rack." How about showing us that "nice rack" or give us some idea why she's so sought after.

Other girls in the movie did nudity, why not the main star? It's not like Corbin hasn't done nudity before. I like the grittiness of reality when it's portrayed in movies. I thought it was odd they did basically an "R" rated movie with some of the other girls, but with Cobrin, they tried making it as if it was a PG-13 movie. Her arm covering her breasts? Really? This wasn't a movie about a strip-tease artist. She was portraying a nude webcam girl.

And did she use her real name on her webcam show? LOL. Um...No, not realistic at all.

They should've cast some other guy for her love interest. Nothing against his acting, but that guy looked like he was 16 or 17 years old.

They could've cut about 20 minutes out of this.

There is some nudity in this movie. They show boobs, butts, sex acts (which are fairly tame). You get to see a side view of Cobrin's (or body double's) butt. There was plenty of blood and gore.

I gave this movie a 4-star rating, based largely on Cobrin's acting. I would've given it 5 stars, but as I said, I deducted a star because of the Bundy quote. Don't blame porn or anything else for Bundy's actions. He was a sick piece of trash who murdered, simply because he was a sick piece of trash! But sure, go and blame someone else for his actions. Unbelievable.

Effective Genre Piece
Jonny-ironica25 February 2015
Slasher films are no longer in and that usually signifies a drop in quality, but this film is a bright spot in the genre. Most people think of modern slashers as a step below the original peak through the 80s. However, this film has nearly every aspect that qualifies as a decent one. While the film breaks no new ground and (like many) is not the least bit scary, it delivers everything you could expect:

  • The killer is a sadistic psycho, pushed over the edge, and hellbent on having his revenge. The mask was a little Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but after so many of these films, they're bound to run out of masks that look threatening. He did remain a near-invincible threat until the end of the film. And while the opening may have generated some understanding into his tendencies as a murderer, it doesn't make him sympathetic and thus the anti-hero title that falls on some slashers.

  • The heroine is the "wholesome and virginal" girl who outsmarts the killer. Though the film's subject matter keeps her from being the typical final girl in it's exact definition, she's like-able and enjoyable to watch.

  • The rest of the cast are the typical, expendable stock characters that you expect to die but with a few new traits(as this film is 2014, not 1984): the lesbians, the main drug addict being a female(and heroin instead of pot), the additional characters witnessing the massacre take place via the internet. Some of the reactions were genuinely funny.

While some of it doesn't work and the first hour of "mounting tension" isn't all that tense, the character "development" wasn't completely boring and it was nice to see some focus on suspense rather than gore. That's something most modern slashers have mistakenly tried to up the stakes with. The common misconception was the 80s slashers were heavy on gore, but in all reality, the budgets were not extravagant. Tension was key to those films and is key to enjoying this one as well.

Overall: I'm going to keep the copy of this film I have and recommend it to genre-enthusiasts. It's slightly camp, a good bit suspenseful, and much more fun than many recent slasher entries. Also: bonus points for casting Nicole Fox, who won Cycle 13 of America's Next Top Model. While slashers often cast unknowns, I find it nice when there's always that one actor or actress you've known about prior to the film.

Perverted Michael Myers
gabriel_sanchez14 July 2015
Do you know that movie that, when it finishes, you go like: "woah... how could they get money for that?"? This is that movie!

I can't say the idea behind it was that bad; I mean, it has that whole "who might be watching you" behind it and all that debate about anonymity while online on the Internet... "who might be creeping on the Internet" kind of thing.

But, wow! Just, wow...! Though acting is regular and Slaine does a really good job performing that whole tormented psychopath, the overall movie is terrible!

Credibility is something important in a movie. Specially when it's all set in reality (things are real and could happen in real life). What I mean is that some scenes will make you go like: "naah, that totally wouldn't go like that in real life", or "things don't work like that on reality".

Overall, it's an attempt on a slasher horror flick that went totally downhill!

if you can watch until the second part it's there were the horrors waits
trashgang15 November 2016
This flick has actually two parts. Being said that it is a slasher I can agree on some terms. It's a slasher done in a modern way, anno 2014.

There's a site called "Girlhouse" were you can follow girls in all the rooms watching them shower or ask them to strip before the camera. And that's what it's all about in the first part but before that you will see a grand opening that really is sublime about two girls bullying a fat youngster. The guy naturally has no experience with girls so let that be the reason for bullying. They let him strip before them with the game I'll show mine if you show yours. Of course he shows but the girls never do. Revenge is on it's way in a really nasty way.

Over to the first half of the flick full of naked chicks walking around in the house and showing it off. I thought, where's this slasher flick going. But you have to wait to the second half of this flick before the horror comes in. And it does in a brutal way. Of course you know who the killer is but it doesn't matter because he really goes for the nasty kill.

So this flick delivers on all accounts to be called a slasher, it contains nudity, POV from the killer and a heroin.

Not bad at all if you can sit through the first part but by knowing that you will be the peeping tom I guess it's not going to be a problem.

Films like this give horror a bad name

If you're a woman-hating loser you might get a kick out of this garbage, it's a woman-hating loser fantasy. In fact, it has a lot in common with a woman-hating loser - no redeeming qualities.

I got suckered in by the reviews......I despair, don't make the same mistake.

Don´t watch. Horrible
joluis25 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie begins as a kids movie. Then it turns out as a nice and a not very known world of porn sites. We see two worlds: a nice girl student at college and a choice she made to pay her tuition. So far it was OK But then, the movie turned into a sycho-horror movie just about killing. Boring all over. By the way, we are fed up with killing with no sense. So many naïve (stupid) errors in the film: the main character didn´t see the missed call from her boyfriend, but we could. The girl who got her fingers cut out could talk, but she didn´t think about telling the address. She just wanted to write it down without fingers. And so on, and on... Decent throwback to classic slashers with a modern concept.
Lambysalamby19 May 2015
As a slasher fan, I quite enjoyed this directorial debut. The first time director Trevor Matthews shows promise and delivers a satisfying horror movie that ticks all the boxes one comes to expect from a slasher film. It's fun, bloody, gratuitous and inventive.

The setting of a house that broadcasts x rated content online works perfectly for horror, much like the Sorority House Slasher movies from the 80s but with a modern twist.

The film is nicely setup and allows you to get to know the characters quite well before they are dispatched! (and they are all quite likable and not annoying!) And it must be said; the dialogue and acting from everyone is quite good. Especially from the main actress Ali Cobrin. Therefore the film never drags....

The kills and makeup were also quite good, with one kill in particular being quite amusing..

The only problem I'd have with the movie is that it was a little tame for my standards, probably cause I'm used to seeing crazy films from the French Extreme Horror movement like Martyrs and Inside! But for me it just wasn't all that scary.

Overall opinion: Satisfying horror movie and a promising debut.

Surprisingly Good.
cyifly-215 October 2016
I don't expect much out of a horror movie, especially slasher-type movies. I don't expect great acting and super-suspenseful plots. With a title like "GirlHouse," I was not going in anticipating much at all.

But it was actually kind of good...

The plot was decent, the acting was above average, the pace was set pretty well and the bad guy was really creepy. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a soft porn, low-budget, badly acted, bloody mess. And it was, but with a little style.

If you like horror movies, it's worth your time. If yo don't, well... Don't bother.

Waste of a good opening
ddreamccast9 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Opening sequence was good, set the scene, then turned into poop. massive plot wholes, he literally got away with murder/didn't get institutionalised/Was still able to get a job for with murder on his record? I dunno maybe I'm overthinking it, but then for the police to initially turn away from murder? What so there is no IT people working for the police now? None of the other 100's/1000's of watchers called the police? It's not really a plot whole but I'll have a moan about it anyway, the "security guards"? Really? A big fat leatherhead looking mf doesn't ring alarm bells instantly? No guns? No taper? might as well of given the job to the junkie she'd probably have been just as effective

A bad movie with a few good points...
starfish-634708 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Good Points:

-Not terrible characters.

-The acting is decent.

-Very good acting and emoting by the killer is great and it really is one of the high points of the film.

-Engaging enough story and script, if cliché at points.

-The creepiness element from the killer is well done, as is the build-up to his anger. All within the realm of believability.

Bad Points:

-The depiction of nudity and sex is expected, when it comes to the plot, but it goes above what is needed for the plot and into being thinly veiled porn itself. Far too excessive for my taste, having not been done non-sexually or reasonably.

-The horror aspect is not subtle when it comes to gore or blood. May be your taste, but not mine.

Overall:

I would love to see this killer in another movie, as the psychological aspect is better done in this movie than the stalking horror aspect. The dialogue between the main couple about the morality of the GirlHouse is quite good, as is the Rear Window reference at the beginning of the scene. All in all, I cannot suggest the movie due to the graphic sexual content, but the progression of the killer is more than the movie deserves.
