Guess Who Is Back?
claudio_carvalho3 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter sees Zach in a crime scene and decides to follow him. He surprisingly sees Zach going to Dr. Vogel's house and when Dexter meets her, she tells that she will not disclose any information since there is a conflict of interest. Debra finds that she has lots of debts. Dexter sees Zach in another crime scene and he gets close to him. Soon he finds the evidences that Zach is the killer bur Dr. Vogel tells that she wants to teach him Harry's Code. Matthews presses Angel to promote Miller. Dexter discovers that Zach wants to kill another woman, Sofia Fuentes, and he decides to get rid of him, but he changes his mind later. Masuka offends Nikki giving money for her. Jaime learns that Angel has just promoted Miller in her birthday party and she becomes upset with them. Dexter meets Debra at home and a surprising guest arrives.

In "A Little Reflection", there is a twist that disappoints the fans of this series. Dexter releases Zach from his kill table expecting to teach him Harry's Code. This ridiculous procedure seems to be a means to end the show in the end of the season. Dexter has plastic on his face on the cover of the Blu-Ray and now he spares Zach. This association seems to give a clue how the series might end. The interesting part is the last scene, with a visitor arriving at Debra's house. My vote is seven.

I have a boat

Warning: Spoilers
1. Dexter goes on a date 3. Dexter doesn't kill Zach 4. Hannah is back

Zach is an interesting character. Designed to resemble young Dexter. Can Dexter and Dr. Vogel reform him? Train him to be like Dexter? Channel his urges to a focal point? Quite late in the season to introduce this plotline but I can live with it. Is this Dexter's attempt to leave a legacy for the final season?

The season is losing a lot of momentum here. Quinn not being sergeant, random dating scene, Masukas daughter. All of those scenes seem accessory and unnecessary like the writers are having a tough time thinking of what to write about.

Dad, You are Lying!
nikashvili4 August 2013
Have you tried to uncover why this episode is called A Little Reflection? Well, it's not about a mirror. You need to see it, because episode 6 is definitely about reflections from the past or present, from people around Dexter or others. I think A Little Reflection is not only the best of season but one of the mysterious ones during whole 8 years. It evolves in many different dimensions and comes down to very surprising and amazing end, which I am not gonna spoil.

Dexter still chases the killer of Hamilton's girlfriend. In previous series This Little Piggy he has a guess that Zach Hamilton murdered father's girl. But having no prove, he continues to study him. Zach turns out to be easy to find, since he visits every crime scene, taking tons of pictures of blood and victims. Morgan knows what this means and one day invites him to closer look at murder scene. Fresh blood makes Zach to open his emotions to the most wrong person he could imagine. But Dexter finds out more about him, than he hoped - a thing that they both share - love and passion for blood and crime scenes. For the first time, Dex sees himself in someone.

This helps him to get closer a lot and get a prove enough to kill him. Before putting him on his table, Morgan tries to understand why Hamilton is visiting Vogel, is this because of him being a serial killer? Or are there any other reasons?!

Dexter is also worrying about Harrison who accused him in lies, which obviously does not have anything with his dark passenger, but Morgan can't escape the thoughts - what if son is smarter than he thinks?

Dr. Vogel tries to convince Dexter not to kill Zach and suggests the same experiment she & Harry did with him - to teach a code. Morgan is against, because he believes Hamilton shall be killed since he murders an innocent and he is going to kill another. Accordingly this young boy perfectly fits his table.

The writing for this episode is really good. I enjoyed the smart parts of it - dialogs, story line, development of characters, especially Zach and Dexter who both show something we did not think of before. Jennifer Carpenter is getting my more and more favorite part of the show, she steals every single episode with extremely dramatic and extraordinary enjoyable acting. Frankly, this episode was not hers, but she keeps being amazing. And Vogel stays in the center of everything. I have a feeling that the whole show evolves around her and Dexter is not going to rid of her that easily.

This episode has some tricky points, that bumped my heart couple of times. It delivers a great emotion of satisfaction and brilliant twists. The ending part of it just made my scream loudly and I am sure, this is gonna happen to everyone, unless you are already spoiled.

Twisteroo Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who thinks that Showtime's Dexter is losing its mojo, winding down in its last season, needs to see episode 6 of Season 8, "A Little Reflection", aired on August 4, 2013. The title "A Little Reflection" will carry a lot of meaning by the end of the episode.

Dr. Vogel has a new patient , Zach Hamilton. Dexter is interested in him also. He thinks that this young) is responsible for the murder of the Hamilton family maid. Turns out Dexter is right, and now the kid is stalking a second victim, Sophia, also a dark haired Latina woman. Dark haired Latina women seem to be his type. But in the "twisteroo" moment of the week, we discover that these women are not Zach's type, but his father's type.

Vogel asks Dexter not to kill Zach, but Dexter says, "He has to die." I'm feeling bad—the kid is a killer, but he's still only a kid.

When Zach comes to on Dexter's table he confesses to the murder. He says the maid was his first kill; he's had these urges to kill, but he had never killed before. He indulged his urge to protect his mother. His father's affairs were making his mother so unhappy that she was sick because of it. Dexter asks, "So you love your mother?" "Of course, I do," Zach answers. Dexter questions Zach about his urges to kill and realizes that he and the kid are very much alike. Dexter decides not to kill him. He has found a little protégé, a little reflection of himself.

Dr. Vogel had urged Dexter to consider teaching Zach "the code"; she called it her "little experiment." Would it work a second time? Dexter was opposed, but in the killing room he changes his mind. "You never had a Harry," he tells Zach who has no idea what he is talking about. The boy has his good qualities, he loves his mother, and he has a conscience as evidenced when Zach tells Dexter to go ahead and kill him because if he lives he will kill again. He seems to be such a nice young man, just like Dexter.

The second twisteroo—Hannah is back.

Holy God this was nuts.

A little reflection, well dig into the episode and you will find the relevance of the title. Well the last episode for me was very slow, seemed like nothing is happening and for much of the episode they created a string and boom a firecracker burst. Yeah wait for the last scene and you going to jump. Not giving any spoilers here, the episode opens a little more trouble for Dexter and Deb. Dexter chases Hamilton, does he succeed i am not sure u got to watch for yourself. Have to say Vogel took a leaf out of Inception and planted an idea in Dexter mind. Deb troubles continues, less scary ones. Sergeant race is almost over as you may have seen in the episode preview but is it really over. And we have a daddy son moment too, a reflection.

Out-Pour of Acolades for Charlotte Rampling
michelangelo156411 September 2013
Finally, US film and TV viewers have learned Charlotte Rampling is a major acting force with whom to be reckoned. Known by European viewers of major classic films (such as "Night Porter" and "'Tis a Pity She's a Whore") as "The Legend," Rampling has now achieved the a new line: "The Look." Charlotte Rampling's significant contributions as Dr. Vogel in the final season of Dexter are the most memorable performances in a TV series I've ever watched. She is a presence whether actually performing in a scene or not! Whomever thought to bring Rampling into Dexter's cast as such a major character is certainly due ample credit. However, Rampling herself with that "Look" she can flash, with awesome eyes that seem to penetrate people's minds while expressing so much by doing so little, is turning in one heck of an award-winning season of brilliant performances.

Having long viewed and collected Charlotte Rampling's corpus of films, many of which have yet to be dubbed in English, I've been aware of how her popularity began to shift from Europe to the US. If you haven't ever seen her earliest films, know this: your missing performances by one of the most talented, highly skilled and exceedingly beautiful actors of all time.

Charlotte Rampling is the real thing: a classic, already. Her many choice films are destined to either remain or become classics, as well. It so happens that her acting career seems to be hotter now than ever, interestingly.

This is a phenomenon I've noticed since Bette Davis took internatio0nal film viewers by storm, not during her earliest years but much more-so in her later ones. Now this has become a pattern with the likes of Dames Judi Dench & Maggie Smith, Lauren Bacall, Shirley MacLaine, Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, and oh so clearly, Vanessa Redgrave! (And I've probably missed several more).

Charlotte Rampling has recently, within that past 10 years, surged to the top ten of that list of actors whose careers, hence, performances, are knock-outs beyond age 55 and while approaching 70yo. After Dexter, I think it's apropos to consider anointing Rampling with yet another line: "The Rage," as in all the rage, because she's very clearly taking both the silver screen and TV screen with tour de force performances.

S8.E6 - Zach [9/10]
panagiotis199329 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S8. E6) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 8 Episode 6 ''A Little Reflection'': Episode 5 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Dating is very hard for Dexter, nothing new. The woman asks questions but Dex cant answer honestly without her freaking out. Seems like the relationship between Deb and Dex is better now, you know after she tried to kill him. I don't know how Dex can trust her again. Is Zach really a killer? We don't know but we know for sure that he is a stalker and a creep. So Zach is the killer, damn that was a bit too obvious. Dex says he never kills innocent people, what about Laguerta? Dr. Vogel thinks that Zach could learn the code, that's insane. So Dex wants to teach Zach the code. The thing is that Zach killed an innocent woman so Dex should have killed him, makes no sense. What was that ending? Hannah is back? I didn't see that coming. Overall a good episode, my rating is 9/10.

More lazy, schlock writing
skay_baltimore31 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series has been permeated with lazy, schlock writing since at least Season 3. Examples: Someone leaves a phone message with vital information that just happens to be overheard, thus providing the key to an entire episode. LaGuerta just happens to see an obscure slide with blood on it underneath a floor grate in the midst of a totally wrecked burnt out church. Dexter just happens to find the key piece of evidence he needs hidden inside the body of a 35mm camera in a studio with a bunch of other camera stuff. Dexter M99's people left and right and there are never any witnesses or security cameras around, even at a fancy yacht club. Dexter drags a body behind a dumpster RIGHT BEFORE Quinn drives by. LaGuerta is shot with Debra's gun and there's no investigation and not a word is ever said about it. Hannah simply disappears out of a hospital while locked to a bed. And as if that isn't bad enough no APB is put out immediately to try and find her. And on. And on. And on.

And that doesn't even get into the absurd brother-sister relationship between Dexter and Debra. Or any of the other ridiculous relationships that poison this show and have turned it into a never-ending soap opera nightmare. And Cody and Astor just disappear from any relevance to this show. And that great nanny is just gone with no mention and replaced by Angel's heretofore never mentioned sister. And Dexter, a stinking blood spatter analyst with a cop adopted father seems to have endless funds for an expensive boat and its upkeep, as well as the funds to purchase a 2nd apartment that he buys outright along with basically whatever else he wants. And he's able to work a few hours a week while galavanting all over the place to do his "real" job. Really? On what planet is this remotely reality?

And to make matters worse, as if this show, and the world as it is right now aren't bad enough, some geniuses decided to roll out a Season 9? We are clearly living in the End of Days times.
