Sweet, funny, real. Everything I like about this show.
bayleykedar6 July 2023
Firstly, as much as I appreciated Syd and Marcus' episodes, it was nice to get back to an outing that deals with almost all of the main players.

Carm is still the heartbeat of this show and placing Claire into the mix has worked wonders. Her presence reveals a somewhat juxtaposition between the life that Carmine could have, one in which he overcomes his lonerism, his anxiety, his stresses, and the life he currently has by staying put within the environment that seems to cause all these problems.

The sequence at the end, when the tone shifts from the somewhat calm, fun atmosphere at the party, back into the claustrophobic tension of the restaurant, then back to Carmine's candy-sweet interactions with Claire - it's a brilliant move that illustrates the two sides of his life. Now Carm is hanging directly in the balance and I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops.

In other moments, Tina had a particularly heartwarming sequence, the opening with Uncle J was hilarious, and Richie was brilliant as per usual. That man's comedic timing is wonderful, and you cannot help but like him despite all his shortcomings.

Great episode. Now onto the big ones that everybody is raving about.

Depth
jenkinslewis-834-4713617 August 2023
Why are people hating on the romantic element here? It brings a lot of depth, we get to see the very real dynamic of Carm trying to balance the intensity of the restaurant with something that actually makes him feel good. It's all most like watching him free himself from an abusive relationship (his work), certainly he's starting to realise what he's missing out on due to his all consuming passion. Maybe his identity doesn't need to be entirely tied up in what he does. This is a concept that will chime with many creatives, and I'm glad it's being explored.

Its also so wholesome to see him find a kindred spirit in Claire, but still in keeping with the slightly dark realist vibe of the show because you know Claire has the exact same almost toxic relationship with work. It's full of potential but still dark and real. It's great tv and art. I can't help but wonder if the negative reviews about Claire here are founded on something other than what the show presents.

oh god..

I don't know why the episode is rated 8 !!. It was nothing but a masterpiece. Most people were upset with the romantic scenario and its addition to the story. I don't know why. Carmy relationship with his girlfriend added a deep, dramatic and extensive building to carmy character. The bear still gives me that magical feeling. And the distinctive vibe... literally throughout the episode I was smiling and tense... from the visual aspect, the music, the dialogues and the narrative depth, the camera, photography and cinematography aspect... It's Just So carefully crafted... for those idiots who did not like the episode because the series moved away from the kitchen events a little bit. I'm sure they didn't understand that the restaurant had 6 weeks left until it opened.. and their journey of building and planning the restaurant and their problems was so interesting and funny.. the best episode of the season so far for me.. just 10/10.

Heartwarming episode!

While this episode does not progress the overall plot very much, it makes up for it with cute reliable moments while giving us a deeper understanding of Carmens character!

I thought the moments between Carie and Carmen were cute cause they have a certain infectious connection that you just immerse yourself in! Qe really got a better understanding if Carmen as a character! It is obvious he is passionate but also misses a time where he can put all of it a side! Its important not to loose yourself in it!

Tina at the bar was great too! Such a surprissing heartwarming moment that I did not see coming!

Tibia says what?

Well I loved it.

What a fascinating route to take the protagonist. Carmy has spent pretty much all of his adult life trying to live up to Michael and living under pressures of being a master chef, but now he seems to have found something that actually makes him sort of happy? Claire makes him feel good, makes him feel seen outside of the kitchen, and he's being more vulnerable with her than anyone else it seems.

So, now that he has found someone he can actually relax with and feel less pressed about life around, will he be able to keep a good balance? Can he get The Bear up and running and still manage a romantic relationship? Will he ultimately have to choose one over the other?

And you can't help but kind of love Claire and her relationship with him. They're both very charming people who just seem to get each other. There (so far) isn't any judgement or conflict. I'll be most curious to see what happens with these two!

It's also just nice seeing Carmy happy. TRULY happy. The party sequence was surprisingly nice. It was good seeing him... seeing what he kind of missed after high school.

Of course you also can't help but be a little mad that he isn't helping assist in his own business when they need him the most...

Also loved Tina's moment in the bar!

Great, great episode.

A reminder what I did not miss in the first season....
allnewsuperfake24 August 2023
.... "will they won't they". I didn't even notice that is wasn't there until now where it starts to crawl into every scene.

Yes, I forgot, it is the law, you have to crowbar at the very least one romance with a forced triangle into your plot or you are not allowed to go air, so here it is.

Don't get me wrong, the acting, the soundtrack and the writing are still pretty great, but the intimacy of the setting, the brutal bare visuals, the breathtaking energy that pulled you away, are slowly, but inevitably fading. Weirdly enough also thanks to the the sort of intimacy that I could have done without. And it's way too convenient, and convenience, also known as the plot fairy, was yet another thing that I did not miss. You know, like an internship in Denmark - or school starting right on time when the renovations begin - while they can't get a plumber at the same time.

Goes off-track but still has its moments
Mesina0224 August 2023
Season so far is going in the direction of prioritizing its characters and their development. This episode pretty much offers that.

It tackles the insecurities of these characters as we get to see them dealing with some heavy handed situations on their own. Episode purposely side tracks itself for the sake of growing these characters.

They are flawed individuals who we see actively make mistakes. It doesn't make it any better that their lives outside of work isn't all that well either too. But that is just to show that life doesn't come without its hardships and sometimes a struggle will come for us all and we have no choice but to deal with it.

Although it might have been one of the weaker episodes this season it doesn't fail at sustaining some good moments to it.

S2 Ep5 Boring and Cliché
m_mmoy100431 July 2023
So far, it has been a struggle for me to get through Season 2 of The Bear. This show was hands down, one of the best shows of 2022. The pacing, writing, acting, and emotional weight is what made Season 1 stand out. As a viewer, the camera work and cinematography really drew you in to Carmy's anxiety and trauma, taking you on a journey of redemption and resolution of family conflict from this one flawed character.

I feel that is what Season 2 should continue to focus on. While I am enjoying the character arch of the supporting cast members, especially Lionel Boyce's Marcus and Ayo Edebiri's Sydney, I feel as if Allen-White's Carmy, has now fallen into the trap of tv cliché's as he is given a love interest so early into the shows journey, which seems a bit lazy, story-wise.

It would have been more compelling to watch Carmy's struggle with the stress of opening a new restaurant, which many can relate to, instead of approaching Ep5 as some 80's teen rom-com. I understand, Claire is meant to be a guiding light in a sense for Carmy to stop and smell the roses once in a while. However, I skipped through most of episode 5 because I could not listen to anymore of the dialogue written for the Claire character, which comes off very inauthentic. Not sure if a season 3 is needed for a once unique show. 5/10.

Episode 205
bobcobb30114 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They need to find a way to get more of Uncle Jimmy in each episode if possible, although I am not sure if the actor is still on that Chicago Med show so he can't be a regular on two.

Oliver Platt may not be giving it his all with the role, but he does add a lot to the program and adds in another authority figure and a believable one and someone who does not grovel about how much their life is struggling.

Carm's weird behavior, especially when an attractive women likes him, continues to be baffling, although despite all his flaws Jeremy Allen White's character got women on Shameless too so what do I know?

Why?????
martymoves14 April 2024
Another sweet episode ruined. This really had a soft and heartwarming feel to it, however....

So, you know like, what I like, really like can't stand? Is when like, you know like, some unitellegible teenager, is all like, talking like an uneducated teenager, and like freaking wind chimes, okaaaaaaay?

Yet another perfect example of how terribly wrong the casting was. Within the first two minutes they have the unbearable Ms. Ayo trying to pass herself off as.... God knows what. She sounds like an annoying teenage girl (I wonder why *that* is?) Horrible, horrible casting.

Then, also within the first 2 minutes of hell, they shamelessly (get it?) Obviously use the tune of the television series "Shameless" starring Jeremy Allen White, when they are doing the stopwatch scene.

This just keeps getting more and more pathetic.

What truly annoys me, this show was made for Gen-X'ers. Let me be absolutely clear: Gen X are NOT millenials. Not by a bloody longshot. Yet this show seems to shamelessly drag itself down to millenial standards.

This entire season so far has been ruined because the writers can't get out of their own way. The constant arguing in the series is basically the same frustration i feel trying to endure most of this convoluted mess.

How can you destroy something that started off so well? Utterly disgusting and yes, shameless.

If they think this is cute, the writers must be sociopaths.

Another 8/10, maybe even a 9/10, taken down to a 5/10 because of lazy writing, editing and casting.

Pathetic.

Get rid of Ayo, she is hopeless, and hopelessly out of place and in over her head. Its not her fault, but she needs to go!

Ugh romance killed this one
blondebimbo12379313 August 2023
Honestly love this show but there was no need for all the romance Tom foolery you know? The love interests Claires personality is insufferable at times. Huge pick me I'm super special vibes. It was a complete snooze fest and it's the first time in the whole series I wanted to either skip forward or just stop watching. The show is so entertaining normally and a great watch but this episode missed the mark incredibly hard! Hoping this isn't something that keeps happening because it really takes away from the whole show. I didn't sign up for cheesy romance it was beyond out of place in this show.

A new low for a shot that had a great first season.
ignacioflorezz26 July 2023
I really had my doubts after 3 or so episodes of season 2 of The Bear. I TRULLY liked Season 1, it was so well crafted - from the atmosphere to the editing to the acting. Just beautiful stuff. Season 2 completely pales in comparison from the get-go. Everything starts being so in-your-face: the editing is super distractful, script is corny and slapstick at times and interactions seem forced.

I started talking about previous episodes in the season because in no episode it's more apparent than in this one. Its flaws become just too apparent. The honesty in the writing that we previously had is pretty much gone. Not all hope is lost though. There still seems to be just enough amber to light the fire back up, let's hope the rest of the season and subsequent ones learn from these weaknesses.

Terrible episode
basti-hc7 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was the worst lovestory since Twilight. Never have I seen a more unrealistic romance like that. I don't get why you had to shoehorn this into the show, it was entertaining and heartwarming til this point. That episode was just annoying and detached from reality. If someone thinks this is how dating works, no wonder so many people are lonely. The scene after he gave her the wrong number and she still calls him to ask why he did that was so bizarre. No sane person would do that! If they don't show that Claire is deeply insane or a stalker I would have to question why anyone would write nonsense like this?

The reality would be like: She realizes he gave her the wrong number, then she opens a dating app on her phone and dates the next best guy. Be honest to yourself... Don't ruin a good show for the illusion that anyone on this planet would fight to be your special someone without knowing you for real.

It gets even worse when you see in the next episode that they can show multiple totally normal relationships and you get more confused why they had to make this before.
