Las Olas promised to be a poignant exploration of grief, self-discovery, and the healing power of art. Unfortunately, what unfolded on the screen was nothing short of a cinematic catastrophe. From the misleading trailer to the utterly disjointed narrative, this film left me questioning whether I had stumbled into a high school project gone awry.

The story revolves around Kaleah Martinez, a seventeen-year-old Afro-Latinx honor student, grappling with the sudden and violent loss of her brother. One might expect a film with such a premise to deliver a raw and emotional experience, but "Las Olas" falls tragically short. The narrative lacks coherence, jumping from one scene to another without providing the audience with a meaningful connection to the characters or their struggles.

The film's attempt to capture Kaleah's pain and self-destruction feels forced and artificial. The emotional depth one would anticipate in a story of this nature is drowned in a sea of superficiality.
