The Kennedy Center Honors was the only thing going on Tuesday night for the broadcasters. And CBS' annual airing of one of the country's biggest cultural awards averaged a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.5 million viewers, making it the second highest-rated Big Four venture of the night. It trailed its lead-in, a repeat of CSI, and also shed three-tenths of a point in the key demo from last year. It's an expectedly quiet week for TV, given the holidays, and Monday's Nielsen ratings didn't end up coming until late last night. The

Don't call it a comeback, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" has been here since, um, March. Yes, Fox Searchlight's spring hit has made a mark on awards season (and also was this pundit's no. 1 film of 2014). I could take credit for believing it would be in the mix for Best Picture since the summer, unlike some of my other prognosticating peers, but let's not get ahead of ourselves shall we? While the SAG Awards ensemble nomination, numerous critical kudos, critics' top 10 lists, four Golden Globe nominations and 11 Critics Choice nods likely add up to something special on Thursday, Jan. 15, there is still much to be done. And while they have "Birdman" and "Wild" to contend with, Searchlight isn't ignoring the growing "Budapest" buzz. Like many early releases, "Boyhood" being the most prominent, the studio is putting Wes Anderson's latest back in theaters. It re-opened today at the Laemmle Music Hall...

Last night the 2014 Emmy Award winners were announced with "Breaking Bad" taking home top honors with five wings including Outstanding Drama Series, followed by "Modern Family" with three wins including Outstanding Comedy Series. FX programs "American Horror Story: Coven" and "Fargo" each took home two awards including an Outstanding Miniseries win for "Fargo". Meanwhile, new shows such as "Orange is the New Black" and "Silicon Valley" went home empty handed and for all the fanfare it received in its first season, including 12 Emmy nominations, "True Detective" only took home one win, that being for director Cary Joji Fukunaga". Personally, I don't give a lick about the Emmys, it's right there with the Grammys in terms of worthless awards shows for me. It's a show wherein people must nominate themselves and while most award shows are no better, this one is down there near the bottom for me. So, with that said,...

Breaking Bad’s amazing final season always meant that it was a likely winner come awards season. However, the debut of the critically acclaimed True Detective earlier this year did leave many wondering whether it might rob the end to Walter White’s story of one final sweep of prizes at last night’s Emmy Awards.
As it turns out, Breaking Bad would end up being rewarded for those amazing final episodes, though True Detective did earn a very well deserved award for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (who helmed all eight instalments).
The UK was represented by Sherlock, and that too did exceptionally well, walking away with Emmys for Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and writer Steven Moffat. Looking at the results, it’s hard to imagine anyone being too upset with the results, though many Game of Thrones fans won’t be happy to see that it was again snubbed.

The first round of 2014 Emmy Awards were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday (August 16) night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony, which precedes the Monday, August 25 Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, offered signs of hope for a number of drama and comedy hopefuls. Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black," for example, won Emmys for editing, series casting and for Uzo Aduba, who is considered a guest actress for the purposes of these awards. No other comedy series was able to build any other momentum going into next week's show, with "The Big Bang Bang Theory," "Nurse Jackie," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" grabbing isolated tech prizes and Jimmy Fallon winning the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for the second time in three years for his "Saturday Night Live" hosting duties. The 2014 Emmy Nominations were announced this morning, and like always they will please and upset people depending on whom you talk to. The great news is that TV Drama is alive and well; it has to be celebrated and just a nomination for attention makes me happy. If you haven’t been watching or have watched shows like True Detective, Fargo, Louis, and Shameless, maybe it’s time. The quick snub I saw would go the mentioned Shameless and the performance by Emmy Rossum (pictured above). She was perfect this past season and watching her on screen was consistently memorizing; another season is on the way thankfully.

Unsurprisingly, HBO leads this year's nominees for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. The network's early days of AIDS telemovie "The Normal Heart" dominated its categories with a full nine nominations amongst the major awards. Their fantasy series "Game of Thrones" scored the most nominations of any program overall - six for the major awards and a further thirteen amongst the technical awards.
Regarding the major awards, FX's "Fargo" was the show in front with eight nominations; "Breaking Bad," "Orange is the New Black," "House of Cards" and "Downton Abbey" were next with seven; "Game of Thrones," "Modern Family" and "American Horror Story: Coven" all scored six; "True Detective" and "Sherlock" got five each; "The Good Wife," "Mad Men" and "Veep" nabbed four apiece; and "Luther," "Masters of Sex," "Silicon Valley," "Scandal" and "Louie" all scored three each.

Michelle Obama took a bit of a beauty risk on Dec. 8 at the Kennedy Center Honors. Are you loving her big, ’70′s inspired hair? Tell us!
The First Lady rocked wild curls and tons of body in her hair at the prestigious awards, held in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night. Wearing a stunning, off-the-shoulder green gown, she was glowing!
Michelle Obama’s Hair At Kennedy Center Honors — Gorgeous Volume
Gone are the bangs that made headlines around the world when she cut them in January 2013! For the event, Michelle was smiling ear to ear while holding hands with her husband, President Barack Obama.
Reed Krakoff On Michelle Obama's Style Take Our Poll
Her hair was parted in the center with big curls and lots of volume. We thought her hair looked amazing and we loved that she wore it down, rather than in a tight updo for the fancy awards show.

Jennifer Nettles surely is more comfortable hosting "Cma Country Christmas" this time.
When she filled that role on the ABC special last year, the Sugarland vocalist was about to deliver her first baby. In the same month her son marks his first birthday, Nettles is back for her fourth round introducing a parade of country artists performing seasonal favorites in the two-hour show Monday, Dec. 2.
(ABC repeats it both Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 22.)
"One of the things I had hoped for this show was for it to become a tradition," Nettles tells Zap2it. "As a new mom, I'm hyper-aware of that now. This is what families do; they start traditions. Things start to take on a different meaning when you're a family."
Other members of the country music "family" in the newest "Cma Country Christmas" include Lady Antebellum, Trace Adkins, Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts, Hunter Hayes, Kellie Pickler,...

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have just announced the winners for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.
It was long overdue, but AMC's "Breaking Bad" finally scored the Best Drama series gong after several years of acting only honors. The show also took home a best supporting actress Emmy for Skyler White herself Anna Gunn. If there was a surprise it was that the show's Bryan Cranston and "House of Cards" actor Kevin Spacey lost the Best Actor in a Drama Series honor to Jeff Daniels from HBO's "The Newsroom".
Other big winners were Steven Soderbergh's "Behind the Candelabra" which dominated the mini-series/telemovie category, and Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" which dominated the variety series category.
Other winners were along familiar lines - "Modern Family" winning Best Comedy Series for the fourth year in a row, Claire Danes and Julia Louis Dreyfuss taking Best Actress honors in...

The Kennedy Center Honors is one of the highlights of my television viewing each year. Having followed the ceremony since the very beginning in 1978, I love that it is a true celebration of the arts. CBS should be commended for devoting two hours annually to celebrate such a wide variety of artists, well-known or not. Who would be my personal picks for this year's honorees which will be announced sometime after Labor Day? Below, my top three choices per genre based on age and impact, starting with the most over-looked group - TV stars. (See the roster of those still waiting to be honored in the photo gallery at the bottom of this post.) Television: Mary Tyler Moore - Actress in "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," and "Ordinary People"; seven-time Emmy winner; Oscar nominee; co-founder of Mtm Productions; member of the TV Hall of Fame.
