- Valerie Dupree is found floating in the pool at Jeremy Cutting's cosmetic clinic. Dr Anna Jones claims she was suicidal after her divorce but Poole suspects she was poisoned by the cup of tea she left half drunk. Fellow patient Jayne Smythe believes Valerie was having an affair with the younger Paul Vincent but Dr Jones admits she was sleeping with him, giving him an alibi. It turns out that Valerie had made an urgent call to a lawyer in France and Poole suspects she was about to sue the clinic for botched surgery caused by Tipping's failing eye sight. But events take another turn when the clinic is exposed as giving criminals new identities - and faces.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Poole and DS Borday investigate the death of Valerie Dupree who was found floating in a pool at the Jacaranda cosmetic clinic. The Commissioner - who has his physiotherapy sessions there - thinks it's a suicide as does the clinic's general manager, psychologist Anna Jones. Dupree's husband had recently left her for a younger woman and she wasn't all that pleased with her surgery. The Commissioner wants the case resolved quickly so as not to affect tourism to the island. Poole however isn't convinced it was suicide and can't quite understand why Dupree would have prepared a very expensive cup of tea and then just leave it virtually untouched. One of the guests, Jayne Smythe believes she may have been having a fling with another patient Paul Vincent and they may have had a lover's quarrel. A question of language points Poole in the right direction.—garykmcd
- Commissioner Selwyn Patterson is not amused that his favorite spa, where he comes for massages but meant for exclusive plastic surgery patients, is locked down and all guest passports confiscated after French divorcee-to-be Valerie Dupree was found floating in the pool, apparently a suicide. Poole nor the autopsy has conclusive murder evidence, just circumstantial indications like she failed to drink a cup of the world's most expensive tea and no traces of her sleeping medication. Poole gradually finds motives, means and opportunities, looking into the English owning surgeon Jeremy Tipping, his manager Dr Anna Jones who turned around financial decay, nurse Carlton Banks who was last to see her alive administering a daily injection and fellow guests, notably her secret lover, flower merchant Paul Vincent, all with suspicious secrets.—KGF Vissers
