Several lives (and perhaps a bit of love) were left in jeopardy as CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles wrapped its fourth season. Tonight at 9/8c, the drama picks up right where it left off, with Deeks being brutally tortured for intel on Quinn and Sam’s wife dangling from a window ledge. (As previously scooped, Michelle is not easily felled.) Here, showrunner Shane Brennan previews the physical and emotional fallout, his big plans for a milestone hour and hints at a midseason surprise.

NCIS has big plans for the Big Easy.
TV’s most watched drama is preparing an off-shoot that will be set in New Orleans and introduced via a planted pilot to air in spring 2014.
Per our sister site Deadline, NCIS: N’Awlins (as I and perhaps only I shall dub it) will be executive-produced by NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg and series star Mark Harmon.
The NCIS New Orleans office apparently handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. But...

Who says CBS doesn’t make bold programming moves? Oh, that’s right: Everyone. But everyone would be slightly wrong! At yesterday’s upfront presentation, the nation’s most-watched — if least-interesting — broadcast television network surprised reporters by revealing that it was not green-lighting two high-profile potential series: A small screen revival of Beverly Hills Cop from executive producer Shawn Ryan (The Shield) starring Brandon T. Jackson as the son of Axel Foley and a recurring Eddie Murphy; and NCIS: Red, starring John Corbett and Kim Raver. Beverly Hills Cop might find a home elsewhere, while NCIS: Red was deemed unworthy...

After last Tuesday's disastrous introduction to Team Red, I didn't have high expectations for "Red, Part II." I hoped it would focus a little more on the new team members and really wanted to see the action that makes NCIS: Los Angeles stand out from other procedurals.
The conclusion to the two-part NCIS: Red backdoor pilot succeeded in providing both, but neither made me excited for the potential new series.
I've been fans of both Kim Raver (Paris) and John Corbett (Roy) on other shows, but their characters were too bland here. I've written before that Raver exudes so much chemistry, she could have a relationship with a wall and it would be believable. I missed that in her performance here, but that's because of the character not her. Paris is awkward. Hetty was pushing for a relationship between her and Callen, but their interactions felt forced rather than natural.

Well, that was a disappointing launch to the potential new series NCIS: Red.
This week's NCIS: Los Angeles, "Red," was used as a backdoor pilot for a new series in the franchise that initially started with Jag. The Red Team is an elite, mobile unit that can be dispatched to anywhere in the world, living quarters included. As a fan of Kim Raver and John Corbett, I had high hopes for their new series. I'll withhold a final judgment until after next week's conclusion to the two-parter, but it isn't off to a good start.
The highlight of the hour was the return of "The Box." The mysterious box that Kensi had and refused to discuss with Deeks. This time she gave it to him as a gift and said that it had what he has always wanted in it. And he didn't open it! At this point, I almost...

This Tuesday on NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS, 9/8c), a perplexing case in Idaho finds Callen & Co. collaborating on location with the “Red” team, in an two-parter that serves as a pilot episode for a new offshoot of the Jag/NCIS franchise.
Kim Raver (24) and John Corbett (Parenthood) lead the planted pilot’s ensemble, respectively playing Special Agent Paris, the athletic, witty and bold leader of the Red team, and Roy Quaid, a former Special Agent forced to retire from active service who now works as an analyst. Rounding out the mobile unit are Gillian Alexy (Damages) as brainiac/military junkie Clare,...

Good day, Roomies!
Hope the world is treating you well. I certainly can’t complain. In the last week since we’ve touched base, I’m settled into my new L.A.-based digs, mourned the loss of my access to solid public transportation and purchased a car, and started a Fund the Veronica Mars movie piggy bank. Very busy, as you can see. But that brings me to the highlight of my week: Giving y’all scoop on the cool stuff coming up on your favorite shows.
Check out this week’s offerings below, and if you have a question,...

• Notable film actor Peter Sarsgaard is making his way to TV. He’s joining the third season of AMC’s The Killing as “a lifelong convict born into poverty and crime who has been in and out of the system for violent crimes since he was 10. Never wanting to appear weak, every interaction for Tom is a challenge and one he must dominate.”
• ABC is moving its struggling comedy Happy Endings to Friday nights beginning March 29, where two episodes will air back-to-back until the season ends. This is not a promising sign, but at least it’s not canceled … ?
• Finally, NBC is giving its new drama Hannibal a premiere date. The series, which is being helmed by Bryan Fuller (ABC’s Pushing Daisies), will bow Thursday, April 4 at 10 p.

Over the weekend, the final – presumably – cast member was announced for the NCIS: Los Angeles spinoff and she’s going to be the big lady in charge of the whole deal. Focusing on a mobile team of agents, the spinoff forces its characters to live and work together, crossing the country solving crimes. With that in mind, whoever is put in charge of this Scooby Doo gang will have their work cut out for them trying to manage a team that no doubt will be at each others throats. So let’s all, just for a minute, feel a little sorry for all the crap Kim Raver is going to have to put up with.
Raver (Grey’s Anatomy) will be joining the other announced cast members for the planned two-part episode of NCIS: La that will serve as the backdoor pilot for the spinoff, which is being called NCIS: Red.
