Spider-Man 4 rumors are running wild, but the potential involvement of Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan has to be the craziest of them all. The film has already been through a number of plausible directors, but none seem to fit the requirements of either Sony or Marvel. One industry insider took the time to call out the false information about Spider-Man 4 directors, and he debunked the theories about four famous filmmakers.
Some wild speculations are circulating online about the director of the next Spider-Man project after No Way Home
Finding a replacement for Jon Watts, who directed the first three movies, hasn’t been easy. Both Marvel and Sony look to create a phenomenal film that could outperform the box office of Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, their visions for the fourth film are very different.

With every role, Jason Bateman established and built on his legacy over the last four decades. Be it as a child star in the ubiquitous great American classic, Little House on the Prairie, or his status as a teenage heartthrob in Teen Wolf, or his dramatic achievement in the Emmy-winning Netflix series, Ozark, Bateman’s range, style, and talent has never failed to deliver on screen.

His roles, however wacky or eccentric, were always rooted in reality and his functional and socially acceptable lead gave a cushion to his co-stars to explore their quirks without restraint.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 cannot seem to shake off the chaos surrounding its production. Sony and Marvel would love to bring back the web-slinger for a fourth film, as it was Spider-Man: No Way Home that gave their respective last billion-dollar film. However, the film hasn’t locked a director yet, with Jon Watts stepping away from the duties. One of the latest rumors suggested that Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man film series, will be helming the film.
Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film after No Way Home gets an upsetting update
However, one industry insider could confirm from his sources that Raimi is not a choice for the studios. The news is upsetting to some fans, who were excited about the director’s potential involvement due to the popularity of Tobey Maguire’s films.

Alex Garland returns in a film that’s reminiscent of his earlier works that kicked off his career. The plot of Civil War has been kept under wraps for the most part, with the synopsis of the upcoming film being, “An adrenaline-fueled thrill ride through a near-future fractured America balanced on the razor edge.” However, there’s enough mystery and intrigue about Garland’s latest that can make this political thriller a sleeper hit in 2024. The cast is mixed with unknowns and well-established veterans: Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick

This article contains major spoilers for Civil War (2024)
From the vastly untapped and underrated vision of Alex Garland comes yet another Oscar-winning project. Civil War stands out as an exceptionally well-drawn-out feature that presents itself as a thesis on the modern world, its ghastly conflicts, and the ultimate breakdown of social order. But through the mind-bending craft of actors like Jesse Plemons, the conflict finds a mouthpiece. Plemons not only acts his part but embodies the evil that permeates throughout the storyline.

Hunting for the Hag begins with Tara sitting across the table from a rather sceptical lawyer who keeps telling her the footage on her laptop won’t help her out of the mess she’s in. She reminds him that he was the one who contacted her, and if he doesn’t actually watch the footage, or she’s leaving.
The footage also begins with Tara, noticeably lacking the facial scar she had in the opening scenes, introducing herself as we find out that she, along with her friends Beth and Candy are setting out to get footage of the entity known as The Hawthorne Hag (Nathan Brandon Gaik; Dead Bodies Everywhere).
You might be thinking that it sounds like, director Paul A. Brooks and co-writer...

[Editor’s note: This list was originally published in 2017. It has since been updated many times.]
With everything going the way it is in the world right now, we’re laughing to keep less cheery emotions at bay. At least this bizarre, still-very-much-in-progress century has already produced a slew of spectacular, silly, snarky, and cynical comedies: ready to fire up whenever you need a serotonin burst or distraction thanks to the ever-growing cadre of streaming services.
The pandemic may be in the rearview for the U.S. federal government, but the specter of war, a tortured economy, and human rights issues across the globe have occupied the minds of many instead. So, in desperate need of some humor, we thought it was more important than ever to give our Greatest Comedies of the 21st Century list, originally published in 2017, yet another rethink. Since the list was originally published, we’ve expanded it to 90 entries, including titles released since then that deserved including and other titles we somehow overlooked the first time.

Billy Magnussen always understands the assignment. Whatever the medium or genre, the actor manages to stand out with an impressive range. He has literally played a Disney prince — twice! — in the film versions of “Into the Woods” and “Aladdin.” He earned a Tony nomination for his role as a dimwitted young lover in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” and has stood out in ensemble films like “Game Night” and “The Big Short.”
But Magnussen also excels at playing the bad guy, such as the tech billionaire who installs a tracking device in his ex-wife in “Made for Love” to a Nazi officer in “The Survivor.” But never more deliciously than in “Road House,” a reimaging of the 1989 Patrick Swayze classic. The new version, hitting Amazon Prime Video this week, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.

“Days of our Lives” fans will see an unfamiliar face in a familiar role when soap newcomer Natasha Hall temporarily replaces Jessica Serfaty as Sloan Petersen for at least three episodes during the week of March 4-8, 2024.
Hall, best known for playing Yvette over three episodes in “The Kominsky Method” during the third season of the Netflix original series, will appear in scenes alongside several Salemites, including Jamie Martin Mann (Tate), Emily O Brien (Theresa) and Greg Vaughan (Eric), among others.
Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, did not provide a reason for the temporary recast. Meanwhile, the current storyline sees Sloan dealing with the guilt of knowing that Jude, the child she and Eric are raising, is actually Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Eric’s biological baby.
“When and if Nicole and Eric learn the truth will be something to tune in for!” teased the show’s executive producer,...

"Bones" fans were delivered a crushing blow when FBI Psychologist Lance Sweets was killed off. Not only did John Francis Daley's fan-favorite character die, but he was beaten to death by a Navy Seal in a parking garage. It was a brutal send-off for a character who was a staple of the show for seven seasons. In many cases, an actor leaving a show after so much time would be met with a great deal of shared emotion from the cast and crew. That's not exactly how it went down for Daley on his last day.
In a 2014 interview with TVLine, Daley discussed his character's departure from the long-running Fox TV show. The actor explained how his final day of filming went down and, unfortunately, it wound up being a very lonely experience for him. Much like the character's send-off, the actor's last day was pretty brutal. Here's what...

John Francis Daley and his writing/directing partner Jonathan Goldstein are not exactly what you might call household names just yet, although they've assuredly achieved "Oh neato, it's those two!" status. With writing credits on "Horrible Bosses" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming," plus their efforts as directors on "Game Night" and "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," Daley and Goldstein have cemented themselves as aficionados at merging cheeky humor with well-crafted action and wholehearted drama -- so much so that it's easy to forget Daley had a full-blooded acting career before he turned to filmmaking.
Fans of Paul Feig's "Freaks and Geeks" will recall that Daley played series lead Sam Weir on the cult classic teen dramedy series, kicking off his run as a television actor in the process. He would go on to have recurring roles on "The Geena Davis Show" and "Kitchen Confidential" before signing up to play Lance Sweets,...

The Lilo & Stitch movie is currently filming in Hawaii and we have some photos from set!
Billy Magnussen is playing the role of Agent Pleakley and he was spotted in costume on set on Monday (February 5) in Oahu, Hawaii.
In the Disney animated movie, Pleakley was an alien sent to Earth by the United Galactic Federation to prevent Dr. Jumba Jookiba from harming anything or anyone on Earth while they look for Stitch.
It was believed by many that Billy would just be voicing the role of Pleakley and the character would be created using CGI, but it appears the character might be human after all.
Billy is best known for roles in movies like Into the Woods, Game Night, Aladdin, and No Time to Die, as well as the series Made for Love.
One of the actors cast in the movie had to be recast amid a controversy.

When you're a long-running network TV series with 20-plus hours of material to deliver every season, you're inevitably going to take some wild swings to meet your quota. "Bones" was as formulaic as any other television procedural, but it had a good deal more personality and would find ways to spice things up now and then. Sometimes that meant a break in format, like when it showed an entire episode from the perspective of a victim's skull. Other times, that meant inviting further "X-Files" comparisons by forcing its investigating heroes to uncover the truth behind what appears to be an extraordinary crime.
In season 6, episode 19, "The Truth in the Myth," the power couple of forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) are tasked with looking into the death of Lee Coleman (Leigh McCloskey), a myth-buster -- not that kind -- who hosted...

John Francis Daley is one of the most exciting comedic voices working today. Together, he and his writing/directing partner Jonathan Goldstein have given us such fantastic movies as "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," and "Game Night," as well as the screenplay for "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Their scripts strike the right balance between fantastical and relatability, and the duo has an eye for turning even the smallest moment into a visual spectacle.
But before that, and even shortly before they made their feature writing debut with "Horrible Bosses," the two collaborated on the script of an episode of the hit Fox series "Bones." Daley was no stranger to "Bones," as he played the recurring role of psychologist Lance Sweets starting in season 3.
For season 6, Daley got the chance to write an episode about the corpse of a myth-busting TV show host found in West Virginia, amidst rumors of a chupacabra attack.

Until this year, "Road House" was one of a handful of '80s action classics that hadn't gotten the reboot treatment, but a new movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal is about to change that. "Road House" 2.0 hits Prime Video in March, but fans can get a taste of the new movie's action now thanks to its just-released first trailer. Can Gyllenhaal match Patrick Swayze's sense of swagger, or will he blaze his own trail as a different version of the cool and collected bouncer who made the original an unlikely hit?
It's hard to tell from this initial two and a half minute first look whether or not this reboot will justify its own existence, but at first blush, the movie certainly seems to have a lot going for it. "The Bourne Identity" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" director Doug Liman is behind the camera here for the first time...

The reel offers a glimpse of Gyllenhaal’s transformation and showcases his impressively muscular physique as he stands in the midst of what appears to be an underground fighting ring. The intensity continues to build as we witness his character engage in a thrilling encounter with a formidable group of adversaries in a dimly lit parking lot.
With a swift strike to an antagonist’s face, Gyllenhaal’s character delivers a sarcastic quip, “Oh, I just slapped you, are you alright?” This remark only serves as a prelude to the incredible display of his agile mixed martial arts skills, as he proceeds to decimate the rest of the group.
First look at Jake Gyllenhaal in Doug Liman’s ‘Road House’pic.

Close bonds with family are often difficult to maintain, especially if blood relatives rope you into their heinous crimes. In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, star Chris Pine sounds hopeful about a fantasy-comedy sequel. More below…
Of all the box office missteps of 2023, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves perhaps hurts the most.
A dazzlingly inventive and surprisingly hilarious roller-coaster ride, the DnD movie seemingly had everything going for it. It had near-universal brand recognition the same year Barbie made $1.4b (£1.15b). It starred Hugh Grant as a hand-rubbing villain after Paddington 2 proved he could pull a similar part off with gusto. It was made by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the directors of one of the best comedies of the last 5 years (Game Night).
Chris Pine even hit a man in the face with a lute. What could possibly go wrong?
Unfortunately, Honor Among Thieves, despite making a pretty healthy-looking $208m at the box office, cost $150m to make, and so initially seemed pretty unlikely to...

This isn’t about favourite actors. Those guys surf along on a wave of goodwill and personal adoration that means you’ll pretty much watch them in anything, regardless of quality. If Wes Bentley‘s your fav, for instance, you’ll have sought out Dolan’s Cadillac and Hirokin: The Last Samurai because you love the man, but you’ll be no better off for it.
This is about a different kind of actor – not your indulged favourite, but the one who’s earned your respect. When this actor’s name appears in a cast list, you sit up and pay attention because over the years, they’ve proved that they have the taste, integrity and talent to make their IMDb credits page if not a flawless, then certainly an interesting place to be. The collaborations they’re a part of and the projects they pick are worth seeking out.

2001’s Spy Kids is a film that almost everyone is familiar with. This famous American spy action franchise revolved around some children who got pulled into an espionage organization. Even discussing the film takes us back to those days when we were kids, and these films would show up on our TV screens, bringing a big smile to our faces. Thumb-Thumb Robot or Floops Castle—some of the most iconic elements from this original franchise—are still unforgettable for kids of the 90s and early 2000s. However, the good news is that Netflix is on its way to release a reboot of this famous franchise, naming it Spy Kids: Armageddon. Helmed by the creator of the original franchise, Robert Rodriguez, this Netflix film is all set to evoke nostalgia by offering us a wonderful experience through these mischievous kids and their worried parents. The trailer for Spy Kids: Armageddon was released a few days ago,...

The murder-mystery renaissance really is in full effect right now. The likes of Only Murders In The Building, Poker Face, and Apple TV’s The Afterparty have been making armchair detectives of us all on the telly side of things, but it’s the big screen sleuthing boom that’s had genre fans flocking to the multiplexes with their magnifying glasses and (presumably) deerstalkers most recently. With whodunnits as wildly varied as Park Chan-wook’s sensual Decision To Leave, the superbly silly See How They Run, Rian Johnson_ – which leans hard into the ‘D’ of DC Comics – on offer, it’s not exactly hard to see why, either.
Now, as we prepare to take enough champagne to fill the, erm, canals of Venice with us to see Kenneth Branagh_, we at Empire HQ have put our tan raincoats on and launched an investigation into the very best the genre has to offer.

Welp! That old gray mare, she ain’t what she used to be. Kevin Hart recently learned a harsh lesson in the art of aging after challenging former NFL player Stevan Ridley to a 40-yard dash. During his attempt to do “young stuff,” Hart tore his lower abdomen and abductors. Calling himself the Dumbest Man Alive, Hart is recovering in a wheelchair after the incident. To control the narrative and perhaps warn his fans to respect their aging bodies, Hart posted a message to social media detailing his injury.
In the video, Hart says he argued with Ridley about who is faster. The duo agreed to engage in a 40-yard dash, and that’s where it all went south.
“We get out there, we go run the 40-yard dash,” Hart said. “40-yard dash. Guys, I blew all my s–t. Tore my lower abdomen, my abductors. I don’t even know what that is,...

Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.
Ashkal: The Tunisian Investigation (Youssef Chebbi)
Realized with a formally exacting chilliness, Youssef Chebbi’s slow-burning noir concerns police officers investigating the mysteries behind corpses who have died from immolation. While the nebulous, metaphor-heavy script leaves much to be desired, Chebbi’s Cannes, TIFF, and Nd/Nf selection excels at conjuring an atmosphere of dread and isolation amidst a derelict apartment complex.
Where to Stream: VOD
Carpet Cowboys (Emily MacKenzie and Noah Collier)
The tiny city of Dalton, Georgia, has left a large footprint in the daily lives of millions who most wouldn’t have stopped for a second to consider. Well, it’s probably more appropriate to say that millions have left large footprints in Dalton’s biggest export: this city...

It's a dog's life for R-rated comedies at the box office these days, and "Strays" is the latest unlucky puppy to learn that lesson. Directed by Josh Greenbaum and featuring the voices of Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx, the raunchy talking-animal adventure is heading for an estimated opening weekend of $8.5 million (via The Hollywood Reporter), which will leave it scrapping for fourth place against "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," now in its third weekend.
"Strays" was already starting off on the back foot, since R-rated comedies have become one of the toughest genres to succeed with at the box office. Even with the star power of Jennifer Lawrence onboard, Sony's "No Hard Feelings" wrapped its theatrical run with just $86 million worldwide, which might have turned a profit were it not for the movie's $45 million production budget. Adele Lim's "Joy Ride" was made for a more conservative budget of around $20 million,...

Just under 24 hours before Warner Bros. Discovery releases its latest quarterly earnings, they can at least boast that they have the summer’s biggest-grossing movie in North America.
With $381.7 million in 12 days, the Greta Gerwig blockbuster “Barbie” passed “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” on Wednesday to become the biggest summer earner in domestic grosses.
The Margot Robbie/Ryan Gosling film has also passed $800 million in worldwide earnings. By Wednesday night, it will pass “Wonder Woman” ($821 million) and soon pass “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($837 million) to become this summer’s biggest global earner and the year’s second-biggest title behind “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($1.35 billion). That milestone should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.
It marks the first time Warner Bros. has ruled the summer, domestically at least, since “Wonder Woman” in 2017. It’s also just past the unadjusted $381 million total of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.” It now ranks as Warner Bros.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.
The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.
That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

Exclusive: Apple Original Films and Skydance are continuing to build on their strong ties with another star-studded project as sources tell Deadline the two are partnering on the action-adventure tentpole Mayday with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh starring and Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley directing. Sources tell Deadline, the script has been done for sometime, well before the Writers Strike started, but that deals, specifically for Reynolds and Branagh were still be worked out before Apple was able to board the project.
The action-adventure feature is based on an original pitch from Goldstein and Daley, who came to Skydance earlier this year with the idea and has been developing prior to Apple’s involvement. Once Reynolds showed interest in April to join the pic, the project started gaining serious momentum and while start date is still undetermined, seems likely this could the next thing Reynolds shoots. The logline is being kept under wraps.

Before we knew Justin Vernon as the force behind Bon Iver, he fronted DeYarmond Edison, a band formed along with his childhood friends Joe Westerlund, Brad Cook, and Phil Cook. Those early recordings by the future indie rock heroes are now getting a proper release with Epoch, a comprehensive box set out August 18th on Jagjaguwar. If you missed the movie that /Film's Josh Spiegel called "the first great film of 2023" in theaters, you're in luck, because "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" will soon be available to watch at home. It took over half of a century for someone to adapt Judy Blume's groundbreaking novel of the same name, but Kelly Fremon Craig's adaptation was well worth the wait. The coming-of-age comedy-drama centers on the titular 11-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) who is thrown into the suburbs of New Jersey after her family moves from New York City. Margaret must deal with puberty, making new friends, and adjusting to her new environment during one of the most tumultuous times of a person's life, tackling the taboos of tweendom every step of the way.

Rachel McAdams’ mother is desperate for her to make a ‘Game Night’ sequel. The 44-year-old actress had a great time working on the 2018 action comedy – in which she played Annie Davis – and she’d love to make a follow-up film, partly because she enjoyed collaborating with directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, but also because she doesn’t want to disappoint her mom, Sandra. She told Empire magazine: “You know, right after my mom saw that movie, she was like, ‘You have to do a sequel’. “I would totally be down for that. I love (John and Jonathan) and I love a game night, so it’s the perfect package for me. “Also, I don’t wanna disappoint my mom.” Rachel also hasn’t ruled out making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after last appearing as Christine Palmer in ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’, despite...

“Who are we going to trick into making our bats–t movie?”
That’s the question Adele Lim said she faced as she and her partners puzzled over how to get their travel comedy “Joy Ride” made. The answer, the “Crazy Rich Asians” writer said at the movie’s SXSW premiere, where her film got a warm reception, turned out to be Lionsgate. “Joy Ride” — which follows a young Asian woman who travels to China with her friends on a business trip — became a highlight at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation in April.
After years of seeming to fear the funny, Hollywood studios like Lionsgate are making a concerted effort to bring live-action comedies back to theaters. The problem is that comedy now pervades theatrical genres. Superhero movies, romantic stories and horror movies all seem to require a wink and a nudge these days. With so many ways to get a chuckle,...
