The legendary haunted house in Amityville is getting a new film project. There have been a lot of movies based on what went on in this house, and now there’s a prequel coming called Amityville 1974.
The project is being produced by Wonderfilm Media Corporation and the film will tell the story of the “real-life rampage murders” that would become the background in Jay Anson’s 1977 book The Amityville Horror and all the films that followed.
The film will be directed by Casey La Scala (The Remaining) from a script that he wrote. “The focus shifts back to the traumatic murders that reputedly set the supernatural stage for the nation’s most notorious haunted-house legend. In November 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot all six members of his family in a spree killing that took on even more horrific hues a year later when a family bought the notorious property and lived...

The Wonderfilm Media Corporation announced today that Amityville 1974 has been given the green light to begin principal photography in November with its story of the real-life rampage murders that would became the background story for author Jay Anson’s 1977 bestseller The Amityville Horror and the numerous films that have invoked it in name or premise.
The Anson novel was adapted to the screen in a namesake feature film that became a cultural sensation in the summer of 1979 and one of the most lucrative hits in Hollywood history with its tale of hostile supernatural forces at work in a home in a Long Island, N.Y., shoreline village called Amityville. The 1979 hit was “re-imagined” twice in theatrically released films but over the years 20-plus other productions (either direct-to-video or for television) have used the real-life village...

Before Roar Uthaug (director of the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot) introduced moviegoers to a towering force of nature in The Wave, he took viewers on a deadly snowboarding vacation in the 2006 slasher film Cold Prey (aka Fritt Vilt), and a remake of the Norwegian film is now in development at WWE Studios.
Deadline reports that WWE Studios has picked up rights to remake Cold Prey, with Casey La Scala (The Remaining) penning the screenplay.
No casting details are known at this time, but it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw a wrestler cross over to star in the remake à la Glenn “Kane” Jacobs in WWE’s See No Evil movies.
The original Cold Prey followed a group of snowboarders who sought refuge at an abandoned hotel, and instead found someone sinister waiting for them… The horror film spawned a sequel in 2008 and a prequel in 2010.

If there’s one thing I’ll never understand it’s the American obsession with the rapture. Over the past couple of years we’ve seen a ton of TV shows and movies centered around the biblical event and most – like The Remaining – are, frankly, terrible. From the gloriously over the top Nicolas Cage film Left Behind, to the completely unfunny (and a waste of the talents involved) Rapture-Palooza, it seems the mix of religious themes and current Hollywood film making do not gel. Then again maybe it’s because, despite a belief in a higher power, I’m not the target market for films of this nature – after all, most rapture-themed films play on inherent fears found in religion.

Christian comic book publisher Kingstone Media has stepped out of its comfort zone recently with their release of the graphic novel version of faith-based horror film The Remaining. Although the company has printed original stories before outside of its historical and Biblical accounts, the move pushes the proverbial envelope even further. Casey La Scala's vision of the Rapture differs from what we've ever seen before through the entertaining, yet relatively sanitized, Left Behind and Revelation Road movies.
It's a truly horrific vision of a world crumbling quickly in the aftermath of a supernatural event that ushers in seven years of terrible Tribulation and unleashes a dark presence bent on eliminating any glimmer of spiritual hope that arises out of the ashes of Armageddon. Writer Roland Mann and artist Kyle Hotz's handiwork perfectly accents and extends in illustrated form what we're served on the silver screen.

Good day, buriers of all things beyond repair. I.d ask if any of you guys watched anything good in theaters this weekend, but I.m not sure anybody reading this was one of the 18 people who actually watched a movie outside of their home. The only horror making its way to the big screen was Casey La Scala.s end-of-days thriller The Remaining, which began its limited run. As far as smaller news goes, Relativity Media has dropped seven figures on The Woman in Black 2 from director Tom Harper. The highly acclaimed mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, with Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by The Orchard, Unison Films and Funny or Die. And Douglas Booth (Noah) has joined the long-time-coming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. And now, let me tell you a story about a thing named...

Casey La Scala is best known as a producer of the legendary 2001 film Donnie Darko. Most recently, La Scala has written and directed an intriguing film entitled The Remaining, releasing today, and he sat down with Dread Central to discuss all the details.
Premiering at London Frightfest on August 25, The Remaining is an intriguing jaunt. We asked La Scala about his influences and inspirations for the film. "After my father died, I really started to question life, death and my own mortality," La Scala said.
"Watching my father die was a tough experience, but I learned the most important lesson," he continued. "I learned that life can end at a blink of an eye so it's important to live life like it's your last day on earth. Specifically, taking care of family and friends and making sure you have said everything you need to say. You could miss your chance.

As a Christian who is involved in reviewing movies and interviewing actors and filmmakers, I’m always excited to hear about actors who share my faith. Although most critics pan any sort of Bible-based movie, I give them a chance if they fall within certain genres. I’m always on the search for a good faith-oriented horror or sci-fi film that will break down the barrier between “secular” and Christian cinema.
One movie that immediately caught my attention as soon as I saw the cover of the graphic novel it’s based on is The Remaining. According to the official description, it revolves around “a group of close friends [who] gather for a wedding. The celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical end-times prophecies. Alexa PenaVega finds her wedding interrupted by a biblical rapture in the trailer for The Remaining.
Machete Kills actress PenaVega, Don Jon's Italia Ricci and Texas Chainsaw 3D actor Shaun Sipos are among a group of survivors who are left to find out why a large portion of the population all died suddenly.
They also have to contend with frightening creatures as they get to the bottom of whether a rapture has occurred or whether something altogether more sinister is afoot.
The Remaining has been directed by Casey La Scala, who also wrote the screenplay with Chris Dowling.
La Scala has previously produced the Bryan Dechart-directed thriller El Remanente.
This new film will open in cinemas later in the year.

The Remaining is another supernatural horror thriller that deals with the end of days as described in the Book of Revelations in the Bible. The film was directed by Alexa Vega, and it offers a crazy look at what the rapture might look like in the most extreme ways. It's got fallen angeles, destruction, and death. This could actually be a decent movie. Here's the synopsis:
The Remaining is an action-packed supernatural thriller that addresses questions of life, love and belief against an apocalyptic backdrop. A group of close friends gather for a wedding, but the celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical end-times prophecies. The survivors face a horrifying, uncertain future as they scramble for safety, but as their world collapses around them in chaos and terror will they choose real life through faith, or just try to survive?
The movie comes out on September 5th.

Alexa Vega, Italia Ricci, Johnny Pacar, Shaun Sipos, Bryan Dechart and Liz E. Morgan star in the supernatural thriller The Remaining, a film hitting select theaters on September 5th which is seeing the release of a trailer today. Watch it via the player here.
The film comes to us from filmmaker Casey La Scala. Films based on the Holy Bible are as popular now as they were in the 1950s and 1960s when studios gave us epics like The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, The Greatest Story Ever Told, King of Kings, Samson and Delilah, and many others. Recently, Son of God made quite an impact in cinemas and there’s plenty more coming our way. Ridley Scott’s Exodus tells the tale of Christian Bale’s Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt. Nicolas Cage will help those seeking answers to the disappearances of loved ones and face the disastrous consequences of being Left Behind.
Darren Aronofsky’s Noah hits Blu-ray and DVD giving those who didn’t watch the movie in theaters an opportunity to see the latest Hollywood Biblical saga. Many might not know that it was actually based on a graphic novel Aronofsky and co-writer Ari Handel made with Canadian artist Niko Henrichon.

Here at Dread Central we are supporters of all beliefs. As long as you don't try and push your stuff off on us, hey, whatever gets you through the day... even if you believe that one day you're just gonna magically go poof into thin air.
Deadline is reporting that Johnny Pacar (Flight 29 Down; pictured right) has joined The Remaining to play the lead Tommy in the movie. The character has a crush on his best friend’s fiancée in the feature. Donnie Darko producer Casey La Scala is directing, and Brad Luff is producing the Sony horror film.
