Filming was done during the hight of a summer heatwave. Because windows were blacked out windows could not be open and despite the use of fans between takes, a number of lights overheated leaving only three operational by the end of the second day.
The whole of the films sound was re-placed during post production. This was because the location of the flat was above a busy shop and people shouting and car horns were common. A problem when the story was set in the dead of night.
Because of the long hours and intense schedule, a lot of the crew would nap in breaks in the back of the Grip Truck. However this led to concern from a visitor to set when they saw the legs of the Sound Recordist sticking out of the back of the truck.
Shooting was completed in six days.
Soulmate was the first short made under the Static Airwaves brand.
