Lesser Episode
Hitchcoc15 December 2023
I'm going to assume they needed a little hiatus from the serious stuff. It is thick on character development, but, unfortunately, the characters are already developed. Dot is immediately thumbed out by her vicious mother in law. We have some fairly long descriptions of the way the world should be from her and the sheriff. We can't help but want to see both of them get their just desserts. Then there's the golf playing, useless husband. We haven't seen a thing that he offers his wife. She should close the accounts, move on, and dump him in the snow. Other than narrow escapes, there is little to this episode.

Good and tired
zacharyvdunn19 December 2023
I guess this is the way shows go now. They leech off the original ideas and plot themes of days past only to produce a fit for todays audience, blehhh. The original Fargo had no agendas to push, just a mixed up story of crimes and idiots. This one is, ok, I guess while being completely lost from one scene to the next. But at this point in season five of "Fargo" we are looking at amazing females and dumb outdated men. Seriously, every living man besides the the one who got himself shot, is portrayed as an idiot or misogynist. Not sure why Hollywood thinks it needs to force some sort of world down our throats in order to make sure we know how the world really is. Is anyone else tired of this condescending approach? Are we supposed to watch a show of this production level and have ti put up with believing that this main character is capable of inflicting the kind of damage she dies onto her attackers without any backstory for why that might believed? Or is it just because she is a woman today and that's all we need to satisfy the storyline?

Wondering whats next..
alexthelion-2115 December 2023
Do not get me wrong! This season is quite great, the acting, the pacing, the dialogue, you name it. I am a bit concerned on where the show is headed, but have faith in Hawley. Each episode since episode 1 of Year Five seems to keep building, but then with the very next episode, more questions are asked and previous answers are given... but not in the satisfying way i had hoped for. We are only halfway into the season and i am excited to see where the series goes from here. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jon Hamm are fantastic in this episode as their conversation really drives home the stakes of the season, as well as getting to show off Leighs fantastic monologue. Overall a good episode, hoping this season sticks the landing!

Perfect !
mofateam-2153913 December 2023
I´m so happy to see FARGO Season 5 being least as brilliant as Season 1 and 2.

Juno Temple´s performance is just breathtaking, and in this episode, particularly Jennifer Jason Leigh impressed me - her embodiment of that hardboiled alpha-woman is really frightening. Moreover, this whole story about toxic masculinity, paleo-spirituality, libertarianism and the "american way of life" financed by credit and debt is as accurate and sharply drawn as it is sarcastic.

The whole cast of the show is perfect, great writing, and the score is so on-point, never too much, never cliche´. I can´t wait for the next episode.

Fargo: The Nature Channel
RottinApple19755 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Fargo Season 5 stands out with impressive performances, notably Juno Temple's breathtaking portrayal and Jennifer Jason Leigh's chilling depiction of a hardboiled alpha woman. The narrative delves into themes of toxic masculinity, paleo-spirituality, and the 'American way of life' financed by credit and debt, executed with precision and a touch of sarcasm.

The cast delivers impeccable performances, supported by excellent writing and a well-balanced score. While some critics call for more significant plot development and innovation, others argue that this season surpasses its predecessors. Despite varying opinions on character likability and gender dynamics, the consensus is that Fargo Season 5 maintains its intrigue, offering promises of answers to lingering questions. As a movie buff, I eagerly anticipate the next episode.

Overall, Episode 5 maintains a steady pace and introduces crucial elements, although the absence of Ola Monk is felt. The focus on Lorraine and Dorothy compensates for this, revealing layers of the narrative, including Tillman's shady activities and missing arms. As the season progresses, anticipation builds for answers and further revelations. The upcoming episode appears poised to delve into the enigmatic character of Ola Monk, raising expectations for a more in-depth exploration of the plot. With the season's midpoint reached, the following episodes are anticipated to unravel complexities and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the unfolding narrative.

In summary, Fargo Season 5 Episode 5 continues the series' intriguing storytelling, offering key insights into Lorraine Lyon and Dorothy's characters and leaving room for further exploration of overarching mysteries.

Home Alone Freakin' Season
josephcasillas19 January 2024
From the start this season has been very off. The pacing is off. The casting is off. Even most scenes, to me, feel just 2 to 3 minutes too long.

I write this as a huge fan of this show.

I almost gave up on this season after episode 3 (one of my least favorite episode of the series - not just this season).

But something happens in THIS episode that really changed my entire perspective on the plot. This episode flipped my understanding of the world and characters. Honestly, if it weren't for this episode, I might've dropped it altogether.

From here thru episode 9 is as good as the season gets. Just great television all around.

That being said, Ole Munch might be the weirdest character in any season of Fargo - which is saying a lot!

All in all, it still turns out to be an enjoyable season. I like this season more than season 3 - which was very slow for me - as this season really explores topics I've never seen explored in TV. I often said to myself, "wow... this is... dark." Glad to have seen it turn around and hope for another season!

Crazy alone is not enough...
zenoderidder14 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very frustrating season so far. To me the first half of this season fails to tell a somewhat interesting story. Most of the time I'm infuriated with stupid decisions of almost all the characters, even the ones that are portrayed as 'genius' are making the one crazy choice after the other. Things are outlandishly unrealistic almost all the time. It may entertain some but I firmly believe this season misses the nuanced storytelling that worked so well in the movie and the first maybe 2 seasons.

I think there is for sure room for crazyness in Fargo, but if you're not going to contrast it with some normal/mundane characters/decisions, than your show becomes ungrounded, something that to me just doesn't fit a show like Fargo. I don't care for tension or suspense if it doesn't make any sense. I could sum up dozens of unrealistic behaviors and actions which just fail to set the table for an actual interesting story. I really have trouble swallowing some scenes.

The hospital scenes for example were especially stupid. Not one logical or somewhat believable action here, from anyone.

For example, the FBI agents are completely unresponsive to the fact Dot is stressing out in front of them looking for almost the entire conversation across the hallway? They even say she must be relieved, like she came across relieved? To a trained FBI agent? All the rest Dot did in the Hospital was also impossible or far fetched. How she violently tied a huge dude to the hospital bed and a second later already disappeared? The nurse that enters right away doesn't yell or anything? We just have a shot of Dot walking calmly away from the crime scene and no alarm is really raised. They only address it later by saying there's more security (barely noticable) because of an escaped patient. (For some reason the receptionist mentions she's female?) All very questionable to me.

Also I want to get off my chest how poorly Scotty's dialogue is written. She seems like a Hollywood portrayal of a 4 year old, talking basically the same way Dot's electrocuted husband turned toddler talks.

It's just a shame because this show once knew how to tell a crazy AND interesting story.

Bad Writing
zimb-3659513 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Nadine/Dot is way overpowered and makes the story uninteresting. Can she have one flaw at least to shake things up.

There's also some real groaners from Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh that solodify them as one-dimensional. The office scene could have been good if their character traits weren't so broad. Subtlety?

Also really dumb decisions from characters like kidnapping the wrong husband. There's no tension when one character is the eponymous "Tiger" and everybody else in the hospital are buffoons.

Plot-wise: 5 eps in and most of the events feel like filler. They keep having set-pieces that don't really go anywhere.

Dot's husband and the cop's husband are embarrassing from a writing standpoint.

Average season compared to first two and trending down.

Stripped down of all depth
ahmadraza13 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At this point, Fargo is stripped down to it's bare minimum. You'll only feel the world of Fargo, some character running around nonsensically around a progressive agenda. I guess this is how it starts, the end of Fargo as a masterpiece we loved.

Dot dodges professionals by changing tags. I could swallow it once, but come on, again in a 10-episode season? Is this what we're watching? "A woman escapes fiesty males by changing names on the doors and directions on screens." Spare me please. This is not a serious season anymore, it's "Home Alone" at this stage.

I hope they bring back the depth previous seasons had. That grit and mystery behind characters. Even shock value is at nil now.

Off the rails
bc_global1823 December 2023
Show had promise and a solid first episode reminiscent of the movie (which is where this all began) but quickly jumped on the modern day crazy train where all Caucasian men are stupid and weak and all women are super heroes, at least as forced by Hollywood. We all seem to be paying for Harvey Weinstein and the result is horrible writing and zero credibility in the screen writing business. I like Juno Temple but she weighs about 95 pounds and they have her overpowering 220 plus pound physically fit men. It's fiction, yes, but it's absurd this narrative seems to be the norm now even though it's not fooling anyone. When will this nonsense end? Just don't make these shows if that's the route you're thinking of going. Women are strong in other ways but they are not going to overpower much larger and stronger men. Jennifer Jason Leigh has had a decent career and some great performances but this is not one of them. Sadly she's overplaying her role in this season to the point of it being sadly obvious.

By the way for everyone that keeps questioning if it's a true story because of the opening credits spoiler alert: it's not. The reason is they have that is the original movie had the exact same opening. And no, that wasn't a true story either.

Terribly written episode
miggidamac24 December 2023
I agree with many of the other reviews written for this episode, this was a terribly written episode. Another spoonful of misandry forced down viewers throats... again. It's just so damn thick anymore, it's getting to be ridiculous. The writers/directors should just come out and say it already, all women are awesome, all men suck and it's every man's fault in the world for all the problems in the world, oh, and women are better than men at everything, even when they have no formal fight training and are half the size of almost every man attacking her (i.e. Dot). Common logic just alludes this episode at every turn. That is a sign of very weak writing and a cop out. The first season had so much wit and complexity in the writing and characters, and there was reality in the limits of what the characters capabilities were. It was such a great season. This season has been definitely hit and miss, with this episode being a terrible miss. I don't think this show can ever be as good as the first season was, and if they keep coming out with dribble such as this episode, it never will be either.

Another tedious season of Fargo
waifardk14 December 2023
I am amazed that Ethan and Joel Cohen would want their names to be attached to this mishmash of absurd plot devices and crudely stereotyped characters, or should I say caricatures? With the exception of Ole Munch, there is not a single interesting or appealing character in this entire story. It's so hard to believe that this season and the last were written by the same person who wrote the first three seasons, which were excellent. I started watching this season with high hopes but after five episodes I'm done.

Oh, and by the way, nowhere does the Bible say that a wife is the property of her husband.

This can't be a true story
therealjaysmoke16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's either the people living here are the dumbest or this is fiction being painted as real. After the first episode, everything else was just ridiculous. How can a police be killed, the witness in the crime is known and yet they don't arrest her for questioning? Esp when she's denying everything that happened? Then she's taken to a hospital where she literally assaults nurses and even a patient and gets away from the FBI? I mean if you have been looking for someone for years, and you finally found her, won't you take her into custody? Then you have a serial killer who is 500 years old? What nonsense is that?

Honestly I have loved all four seasons of Fargo, but this is probably the lousiest and dumbest of them all.

Average at best
mekid-3318314 December 2023
Overall better than season 3 and 4 but it's not great, certainly not worth the high scoring it gets here.... The main female lead is not likeable and maybe it's time to stop copying the other seasons with a female police officer who all have the same appearance, accent, etc.... Maybe some innovation would help but I think it's time to wrap up after this season.

smug political browbeating
T_Boone_Pickens_Esq23 January 2024
I'm five episodes into this series so far, and it's grown more political with each episode. Now we have characters sitting across from one another espousing their political opinions at one another, and guess who's made to look like the hero.. and guess who's made to look like the fool..

Both Hollywood and big-tech TV are so busy drinking their own coolaid that they consistently alienate their primary audience - that being ordinary people, who don't need to be lectured to by an industry infected by immoral charlatans masquerading as society's moral arbiter.

Enough already.

Seasons 1-3 were superb, because the writers were interested in telling riveting stories, not ramming their politics down the audience's throat. I recommend stopping there.

Episode 5
bobcobb30117 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am still not sold on this season of Fargo, but one thing I will say is that we are finally getting back to the show's signature snark and snappy dialogue. The Lorraine character is slowly growing into a standout and we get a few goofy over the top moments here.

I just do not like Juno Temple in this role at all and her violent tendencies are not connecting with the audience. It is just hard to root for Nadine/Dorothy's journey, even though we now know the harrowing backstory.

Decent enough episode though and one where I was not staring at the watch or the clock and wondering how much longer we had to go.
