The acting is terrible, so at least you know the mechanics are probably legit
testbed13 June 2023
I've watched other very obviously fake car shows on Netflix, but none so obviously fake as this. It's a shame as the show doesn't need the silly dramatisations.

People watched pimp my ride to see the car transform (as ridiculous and often dangerous and pointless as those transformations were). I don't know why these shows can't do the same format as pimp my ride but with the actual talent that these people obviously have.

The transformations look great, and though I know nothing about cars the general consensus seems to be that these guys actually know what they're doing. Such a shame they aren't just showcasing that talent in a real way without the bad acting and dumb setups.

It's a fun auto restoration show.
snwot911 June 2023
Driving into Juarez, Mexico to find cheap classics and bringing them back to the US to polish up and sell is what it's all about. It's fun to watch, the characters grow on you. Rabbit (whose voice sounds like king Zog from disenchantment) is the slick buyer/salesman who could probably sell Henry Ford a car, and Scooter his giddy, keen sidekick with connections to sellers in Juarez. They make for a entertaining buddy roadtrip duo. Some other comments are saying it's fake, that they film the Mexican segments in rural New Mexico are right and wrong. It looks like the cars are actually bought in Juarez then brought back, but some extra "pickup shots' that the production decided to add later are filmed in rural US. I guess it just makes practical sense that if you decide to have a drone shot of them driving away from the purchase, but you didn't think to get that shot at the time, that you'd just find a similar looking location in Texas or New Mexico. It's reality TV, but yeah.. it's still TV. They do seem to push the resto work through fairly quickly, sometimes taking less than an episode on a car, or having two projects in the works. Also, they don't really go into minute details of the resto, usually just focusing on one or two problems and how they fix them. But still, it's easy watching, interesting and some light-hearted humor thrown in.

Car customisers never heard of the internet

Warning: Spoilers
Great to see Mike Copy of Fast and Loud fame back in action. In fact all the cast are fun individual characters. The whole programme is based on the premise of bringing cars back from Mexico and selling north of the border. It's clearly contrived and formulaic but binge watchable nonetheless. The worst points are 1) not enough focus on the actual process of making the cars (except the painting) and 2) reliance on word of mouth to buy and sell the cars. Come on guys, this is the 21st century. Advertise on-line to reach a greater audience. Like no-one sells a car by "oh a friend of a friend wants to buy one". Roll on series two. Would like to see more detail on the actual builds.

Enjoyed but something changed...
linda-46085-3878213 June 2023
I started watching the series, my husband watches other car shows, however, those cars are made for specific people so there is no need to try and sell. After watching the episode of the Dr., where the price of the bronco went up, didn't set well with me! He is a true car sales person, need I say more? I lost interest in the show because of this, along with his side kick who was too goofy. I do however enjoy the others in the shop and loved how the cars were restored. It amazed me to see this. I really enjoy the woman who knows her stuff. As a woman pastor, my hat goes off to her because her skill has been recognized!

worth watching twice
lucyjd-1275211 June 2023
This show could use a little more time showing the automotive work but I do like the time spent on the hunt and purchase side. Most of these builds could be stretched out into two episodes each instead of cramming it all into one episode per build. Scooter and Rabbit are a bit energetic and enthusiastic but they grow on you quickly and are actually entertaining. Overall they have a good crew. Everyone seems likable even Rabbit and Scooter. It's like a spin-off of Car Masters Rust to Riches (Gotham Garage). If you like Car Masters or Rust valley Restorers you will probably enjoy watching Tex Mex Motors. I've already started watching it a second time.

RAD AND REAL
sarajevans12 June 2023
My life long friend, Wesley, the master fabricator on the show is a real, legit person of the trade. He grew up in a shop with his step dad a master hot rod builder so believe the show is legit and so ate the crew. They are real masters of the craft and im so very proud of him and all! If you knew him personally he's not ever been one to be the center of attention nor speak in front of people unless it's the "guys". He's come a long way and not stopping here! "NOT ALL HEROS WEAR CAPES, SOME WEAR WELDING HELMETS" I watched all 8 episodes in one evening because I thoroughly enjoyed it being a single woman, yes all 8 episodes! So do yourself a favor go watch you won't regre it. And then Go give them 👍👍. I hope they do a second show, then a 3, 4th and so on!

Great job TEAM🤘

It was a good idea but its FAKE...
fernando-3199713 June 2023
Most of the stuff you see on screen is not authentic, mosf ot the cars they say they buy in Juarez are not actually bought from the people on screen nor they are in Juarez when they are filming.

The whole "being pulled over" by the "Federales" is super staged and scripted, the agents aren't even Mexican and Federales do not use those models of trucks nor they take your papers and come back... they will either take them and not come back or something else will happen but trust me they will not be chicano spanglish speaking agents... not authentic.. at all.

Like I mentioned before, the locations are not Juarez, Mexico other than a few shots on the street or the actual bridge. This could have been a great show but they just scripted it all the way ...

It's the first season and will get better over time
enigmawriter-111 June 2023
It was great watching the show and seeing restorations of old vehicles. I can see them outdoing themselves for each season and I think it will get better. It'd be great if they find an old Plymouth Fury and recreate it as Christine. That'd be a trip. The talent have great interactions and have funny moments. It's 8 episodes, but I think next season they'll get more. For those who love watching restorations, it's a great treat. And since it's about the border, I can see them traveling not just in the El Paso area but throughout the other areas of Texas. I can see road trip findings, unusual restorations, etc. There's a lot they can do with this show. I hope Netflix puts more funding into it for season 2.

Fake staged and corny
Baris-Mk20 June 2023
This show is absolutely fake and staged, every sentence every joke every word is extremely unnatural, even the buyers and the sellers are so bad at acting surprised, even simple human behaviour like saying yes and no, the part that includes building cars is very tiny in comparison to how much they try to act and talk which is so bad because it's not a car show, it's a show about a bunch of people pretending to find cars in Mexico, when in reality they know all the people and they have already made deals with them, what is even worse is that they end each episode and behave like children all the time and fake everything.

Tex Mex was awesome
andreasewell10 June 2023
I don't watch car shows usually but this one was entertaining. I loved the backdrops of Mexico and Texas. I thought the cast was great and I watched all eight. I hope they do many more seasons.

Rabbit and his partner were hilarious bannering back and fourth.

I loved that Jamie was in it, she was fire! She actually seemed to out work everyone else.

Wesley was a true artist with his welding skills.

Mike did some gorgeous paint jobs as well.

I though the car restorations were amazing! It was fascinating to me how they could take something from a junkyard and turn it into someone's dream car! Literally a rolling piece of art! Watch this series!

Best of the kind
karolkister11 June 2023
Seen a lot that kind of shows during the years. Despite typically American blah blah and bling bling it's a really decent show. Of course it's a show, with scenario and some fake drama, but still you an find here amazing crew, with attention to details and knowing fabrication and engineering. Basically I've first time seen that attention to details especially with a bodywork in USA. It's more than just unboxing parts, it shows a really fair amount of work, and people's sacrifices. Also they have their unique style, the cars doesn't all look like a pimp cars. BTW Great comic-trader guy, proper legend hehe.

Definitely can't wait to see another season!!!

Fake
ploubardis13 June 2023
At episode one they have to put rocks to stop the wheels from rolling when they sell it to the estate agent. What ???? A new refurbished car that the handbrake doesn't work!!! Nice work. Plus at the close ups you can see that the paint job is white and someone left as a mark red fingerprints on it. In short very poor job. I imagine that the buyer isn't real and it's all part of the show. Otherwise I don't see the reason to buy that car for 30.000 dollars. And when we talk about staging how come the cops stop them in Mexico and the film crew suddenly from close ups end up a mile away, not mentioning the cop who is full of tattoos.

Tex Mex Motors is FUN ON WHEELS!
jnicolecedillo13 June 2023
A fun summer binge. The show follows odd couple Rabbit and Scooter as they cross the El Paso border into Mexico in search of old ager vehicles that they can flip and turn for profit. With the help of their team, they set up a temporary shop for the summer to restore and recondition their finds for profit. Rabbit has eye on the prize and Scooter has the diamond in the rough leads. Together they exchange everything from one liners to burritos and leave audiences laughing out loud. The eight episode bring with it cool shots of the desert southwest, gorgeous car transformations, history on the cars they find, and drama on the road. If you want a fun watch where you can get car restorations with a side of comedy, hit play on Tex Mex Motors.

The moat scripted and poorly acted reality show I've ever seen
garnetsuss20 June 2023
The most scripted and poorly acted reality show I've ever seen.

The vast majority of car shows are heavily scripted, and this show takes it to a whole other level.

It would be a good show if they cut out all the scripted junk. The two importers/buyers are the absolute worst. The situations they find themselves in, their acting, and the way they portray Mexicans...it's offensive to both Mexicans and the viewers.

It really is too bad, because the concept bof the show is pretty good. There are numerous "reality" car shows that would be better if they weren't acripted, but this one is, by far, the worst.

Car show worth watching
christinascurlock11 June 2023
Being the wife car guy, I have watched A LOT of car shows. This is one that we both enjoyed watching! (We binged all 8 episodes in one day!) Scooter and Rabbit are hilarious and are entertaining to watch. Jamie and Wes are baddies! Those 2 definitely know what they are doing! I would like to see more of the upgrades as they are being done. I didn't always agree with the color schemes for the cars because they were a little strange to me but it was still good. Overall, they repped Texas well and showed out all their skills. I really hope there is a season 2 because we will definitely watch it! Yea Borderline Customs!

Finally a Car Show for Car People and the General Public
dmc-5047911 June 2023
Nice to finally have a new car show to watch.... If you're a gear-head, you'll be wishing they spent a little more time on the build. If you're looking for a good car show for the general public and "car people" alike, this is what you get. (Smart on Netflix part!).... Huge bonus that It's on Netflix and not Discovery or MotorTrend.

This Netflix series seems to take car show reality, car restoration, the art of the hunt, a bit of history, a touch of comedy and combine it into one. It's been a long time since there was a new car show actually worth watching. Keep in mind that this is an entertainment show and they are not building cars for SEMA or Barrett Jackson.... Although it looks like some have been frame off restorations, some have been quick flips.... but it looks like they put out decent products. (If you don't believe me, look at "other car shows" and notice often times the time the windows are always rolled down because they don't even have windows in the car.)

The first two episodes are a little slow, after that it becomes really enjoyable. I wish there were a few more episodes in the first series, 10 would've been better than 8.... I wish each episode were a little longer (maybe 50 minutes instead of 35) to give more time on the cars history, the interior, the details and I wish the builds would have been a little longer. Towards the end of the last two episodes I was already wishing I had an extra few seasons to binge watch.

The cast has some new faces but if you're in the car community you've seen most of them around. Scooter and "Rabbit" (Rob Pitts) are hysterical, definitely an "odd couple" and it works well. Rabbit is a wealth of knowledge and it seems like he can barely glance at a car and tell you everything about it. Mike Coy hasn't changed much since Fast and Loud, he's still his own biggest fan. Wesley and Jamie are both real car people in real life who both put out amazing products and I would've liked to have seen a little more of them and a little less of Mike. (Side note, "The Stig" from Top Gear, another great show, was actually the floor producer on this.)

You can tell the people who designed this show actually know how a shop/garage work. I appreciated (for the first time in a long time) there wasn't obvious placed sponsorships and logos perfectly placed everywhere. They talk about food, they have meals together, things in the shop are out of place sometimes.... I have no doubt that it's scripted but that makes this look a little more like a real life automotive family.... And in this business that's what you are, family.

(Overall, two thumbs up for a first season.... This show's first season is much better than most first seasons.... Fast and Loud, Rust to Riches, Count's Kustoms, Bitchin Rides, Graveyard Cars and I'll even throw Sons of Anarchy in there even though it's not a car show, but that first season was dreadful.) All in all, this is a definite watch if you take it for what it is, a car entertainment show.

Too irritating to watch
kmm-5414820 June 2023
I've watched plenty of car resto shows in my time and although I love the location, the 'characters' are just far too irritating especially Scooter. I had to fast forward through the majority of the season just to avoid having to see or hear him! He ruins the show in my opinion. The cars are poorly restored besides new paint jobs not much is done. Interiors are barely touched. Maybe I'm expecting a bit more class and cars that look professionally restored not cars that appear to have been done in someone's backyard. If it's wasn't for some of the gorgeous cars I would have stopped at episode 1.

Scooter and Rabbit are comedy gold!
gilbert-jorgenson11 June 2023
This is an entertaining and fun show that non gear heads will also enjoy! The Scooter and Rabbit banter had me laughing out loud. A lot of car shows that I have seen before has a bunch of people losing their temper and throwing wrenches across the garage. It gets old after a while. This show is actually light and funny and they don't overdramatize the mechanical issues they run into. Jamie, the main mechanic, is always cool headed and is a smart problem solver. She is an amazing talent!

Finally a show about the Borderland that is not about drugs and cartels.

The creators made it an important point to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of the El Paso area.

Way too much blah blah blah
TomatoesareRotten9 June 2023
And nowhere near enough of the mechanical renovation and bodywork detail. It's a complete rehash of Fast n' Loud which went off the rails for exactly the same reason with the big loud mouthed front man. Unsurprisingly, Mike ( the paint guy ) is in this as well. The "Rabbit" dude is one seriously annoying individual and you can see why the morons lap up his nonsense on YouTube. All the "padding" in the show detracts from what is is supposed to be about, car restoration ! Made it through three episodes until I expired through boredom. Which is a shame, because there are some good car people in this, who are completely overshadowed by the talking heads.

Yes of course it is all staged and acted. I don't care, its TV
petersborghouse16 June 2023
I love watching old cars together with my son, and we like to daydream about restoring cars. We can discuss colors and shapes together, we can talk about keeping cars original or not, what kind of old-timer we both would like to find, etc. So this a perfect show to watch together.

Tex Mex is not a reality show, it is a TV show, it's entertainment.

Of course those are not real barnfinds, or at least not real barnfinds when they were shown on TV for the first time.

Unless those cars that supposedly have been standing still for ages all have magical batteries, magical fuel and magical air in the tires. And those are most likely also not the real sellers and real buyers. Do I care? No.

And you don't get to see much of the work that is done (or supposedly is done), but I don't mind. Sticking to some highlights works for me and my son.

But what's real important; I don't find the actors annoying, and they don't try too hard to give the show much drama.

I can easily watch an other season.

Refreshing original car restoration show
beargraduate19 June 2023
Great concept and location. A wonderful insight of life in Mexico as well as El Paso community. This was certainly a surprising location choice because all the rest of the country know of el Paso is the border problems on the news. El Paso is actually a well know hub for car modifications and motorcycle builds.

The team has great chemistry and the car choices are awesome. Although, all the restorations are all similar to other restoration shows and it all really boils down to what the buyers are willing to pay. Seems like all the complaints are coming from other restoration competitors shows. All I can say that this is more of a team shop as compared to the egotistical restorations from Austin and vegas shows.

Fake and low quality builds
nastasiecosmin21 June 2023
I started watching because they showed many nice cars in the intro, like the Baja bug, a 964 Porsche and some Karman Ghia's, but the acting is so bad, the cast is almost like they wanted to copy the Rust to riches show, the woman character is almost identical but worse. They have many shots with the "completely restored vehicle", but there are parts missing or rust showing, or parts are poorly adapted to the car, like a black steering wheel with 3 shiny bolts adapted in the middle instead of the original mount. Bad actors, cringe paint jobs, added fake drama that you can spot a mile away. And the worst is seeing the restored only for filming a few shots cars.

Amazing cast building these cars!
remimartinsen3 September 2023
I love the people that are part of this show! All the characters go so well together and it is a lot of fun watching them. They are all masters in their respective field, and it is a privilege watching them restore these amazing cars. I really like the fact that they go into Mexico to chase down these hidden rare gems that they find once in a while. From my understanding, in the U. S. it has become increasingly harder to scout down these old rare classic cars. I love watching the process from finding a rough dusted down classic somewhere in Mexico, and then bringing it back for restoration and make it shine like a diamond. This has become one of my favorite shows!

These car building shows are making me puke.
Byoobonik17 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Welcome to "Tex Mex Motors," the ultimate nightmare for car enthusiasts! Get ready to cringe as we bring you the most disastrous car-building show in history, featuring the rustiest and most dilapidated old cars you can imagine. This series takes the term "rebuilding" to a whole new level of incompetence.

Join our bumbling host, Tim Torqueless, and his team of clueless mechanics as they embark on a never-ending journey of automotive calamities. Watch in horror as they fumble with tools, misplace vital parts, and make critical mistakes at every turn. Their lack of expertise is only matched by their astonishing ability to create even more problems than they solve.

Expect sparks to fly (literally) as they attempt to rewire faulty electrical systems, resulting in short circuits and spontaneous combustion. Witness as they install engines that cough, sputter, and emit more smoke than a volcano, leaving everyone questioning their mechanical knowledge.

But that's not all! Prepare yourself for hilarious mishaps, like mismatched tires, doors that won't close, and mismatched paint jobs that resemble abstract art. And just when you think it couldn't get worse, they'll attempt the ultimate challenge: resurrecting a vehicle that hasn't run in decades, leaving viewers cringing in anticipation of the inevitable failure.

"Tex Mex Motors" is the epitome of everything you don't want in a car-building show. From botched repairs to catastrophic blunders, this train wreck of a series will have you questioning why anyone ever thought these guys should be let near a toolbox. Tune in if you dare, but be warned: you might end up with nightmares of stripped bolts and leaking fuel lines for weeks to come!

Loved it!
info-8094223 December 2023
Fake or not (y'all know Top Gear, The Grand Tour, etc etc are ALL "fake" right?) I love it!!

A welcomed viewing for bored eyes.

A show like this needs to be scripted, to a certain degree, to make it work for TV - and I don't think it was overly scripted.

Acting poor but skills/techniques very watchable. Win win for me.

The designs are interesting, but not "tacky" like many others.

Unlike some of the other similar car shows, the workmanship is decent quality!! E.g. They're not selling £30k cars for £200k, with paintwork worse than when they arrived!!

I enjoyed it, more than expected, and hope there's more...
