Wild story, weird production
greysky724 February 2024
The story is insane and the documentary is worth watching but the production/editing was so freaking weird. The interviews felt like a really bad reality tv show which I felt did a disservice to the 'survivors'. It made them annoying and hard to empathize with instead of connecting with them and their experience. Whoever did the editing allowed so many things to be repeated over and over and over again that the repetitiveness was also an annoying factor and it jumps all over the place, there was no need to try and be clever, just tell the story linearly. It didn't need to be 5 episodes either, it could have been done in 3. The mental gymnastics it must take to believe and convince others to believe your narcissistic delusions boggles the mind. Interesting story, really weird production.

Interesting story not done justice
bree_norman15 January 2024
I hadn't heard this story before, and it was really fascinating, but it was so dragged out and could easily have had less episodes. But the main let down was the interviews. Got quite repetitive at times. I'm not going to get personal in this public space but will note that people talking over each other, and interrupting each other, in the interviews was very hard to watch. Worth a watch. The old news footage and photos were also interesting. The expert and professional interviews were ok, definitely more interesting. However, I had to watch over several viewings, not a show to be binged to me.

What a story!

I had read Anna LeBaron's book The Polygamist's Daughter but I still found myself staring open mouthed at the screen during some of the revelations in this documentary. There is something so powerful about hearing it straight from the survivors of a violent cult. No one knows how many children cult leader Ervil LeBaron had but estimates are at least 50. Many of his children and other relatives appear on screen to share their stories. I believe I binge watched this over two days, and I want more. We need a Part 2! The description of the 4 o'clock murders was so clear that it was more horrifying than reading about it. I loved the sibling relationships shown on screen and I wish these capital S Survivors all the best!

What a snoozefest

Warning: Spoilers
You know with a title like that you would think it would be interesting. Nope, not this. It was just two women on a couch talking CONSTANTLY and the one lady interrupts the other d lady so much. Its so annoying. Watched 2 episodes and ots all that I could take. It did not tell me anything at all that I didn't already know. But yeah, this fell very far from a shocking documentary. I couldn't handle the two women and their constant bickering. It was like high school and the one lady was like a high school bully. Not well done what so ever. 90% is the two women on the couch! I'd have liked to see pictures, evidence, things of that sort..but no we got a talk show that didnt make any sense. Its a no from me dawg.

Beautifully Produced

Warning: Spoilers
I love the way this document-series told this very complex story from the point of view of some of Ervil LaBaron's own children. The family stories and sharing together made it so personal. I liked the interviews as well as the "acting" out of the scenes. The sibling banter around the table was heart warming. To know not only that these siblings made it out but that they also grew up to be productive people is amazing. So many times we only hear the awful testimonies and not the redemption stories. It is very beautifully produced. All I wish is that there was MORE! Please produce more episodes!

Fantastic!

A legendary cult monster and the children that escaped. This is their heroic story! You should also read the book, "The Polygamist's Daughter" as well as watch this series. This is the true accounts of the children of Ervil LeBaron and other family members as they recount the early days of life living in a cult. This is the dramatic story of young Anna. Watch as she tells her story of her daring escape as a young teen and her eventual reunification with her siblings later in life. How they all coped and the difficulty of living in fear of being caught and possibly killed for daring to leave!

This is a story of triumph, recovery, forgiveness, and God's Grace.

Interesting and Deeply Moving Story!
myvsygfjy16 January 2024
I'm familiar with this story as a reader (and multiple re-reader) of Anna LeBaron's book The Polygymist's Daughter. This isn't just another true crime docuseries. It's a multifaceted look at a compelling story that is told by multiple members of the family who come together with vulnerability, pain, humor, survival, honesty, and growth to tell the story of their lives. You will watch this and walk away with questions. This is a series you will want to watch and rewatch. I watched all the episodes in two nights, and I will be watching them again with my family and friends. My respect and thanks go to the family for telling this difficult story with the vulnerability and bravery that I know it took. You all did an amazing job. I hope that the healing continues.

What a story!

I am so glad I decided to check out this documentary. What a crazy story told from the perspective of these people who lives it. I am always fascinated by stories about people who join cults but to be born into one and grow up not realizing that you are in one is totally different ball game. I am so glad these brave survivors decided to tell us their story. If you have not watched yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. I binged all episodes in one night and I wish there were more. If any of the family reads this, I am so happy that you shared your story and I wish all nothing but the best!

Great but CREEPY...

Warning: Spoilers
This was a very interesting documentary. Thinking of the way all those poor cult children grew up is heartbreaking. The idea of just killing someone, like it was no big deal for them, was unbelivable. What really bothered me and the question I have is "why did the 2 teenage girls who finally escaped safely, not take their 6yr old little brother Hyrum?" They are all together right now, thank god, but it was so sad listening to Hyrum, as a man today, speak about how scared he was growing up. It was obvious that the lifestyle and the abuse he lived thru took a big toll on him. I'm happy to say, he is with them now, safe and sound. I guess there were way too many kids for them to worry about, not just Hyrum. Those 2 girls were only thinking of getting themselves as far away from there as possible. I will be watching it again.

Wow!

Tge Daughters of the Cult is this years MUST SEE TV! I binged the series in JUST one day! It is so well done.....from the interviews, to the graphics.....everything! I had read Anna LeBaron's book, "The Polygamists Daughter," but this brought a different aspect, perspective and dimention. I loved how the siblings and cousins supported each other, and my heart ached for each and every of them. But through all the trauma and tragedy, they lay out a clear path of hope. I loved to see the family tree and paused it when it came on to study it. Don't hesitate to watch.....its amazing! Such a story of hope!!

I remember this case
spaeorklapb7 March 2024
I've only watched two episodes and I'm hooked. I remember this case well because one of my family members was one of the investigators on the case. He interviewed several of the family members, including Ervil himself, while he was in prison. Of course, he couldn't give me many details, but I think this was that case that drove him to retirement. He also investigated the death of Daniel Ben Jordan. I was just a kid myself. My family member was there at the funeral of Rulon Allred. I'm so grateful that nothing serious happened. He was also part of the investigation of the death of Daniel Ben Jordan and also attended that funeral.

I appreciate and was most impressed by the resiliency of Ervil's children who came forward to share this harrowing tale.

Intriguing
info-9303019 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Do you all remember the HBO series Big Love? When I was watching it, I was sure they'd taken much of it from Ervil's life and that fictional polygamy city Juniper was an awful lot like Short Creek which is now called Colorado City. And there is a character named Verlan, which is also the name of one of Ervil's brothers.

My husband watched these with me. Being a LeBaron myself, and being born into polygamy in Colonial LeBaron, I had some answers for him. But not a ton. Thankfully, I was not raised in that BS. From what I already knew of Ervil and the murders, this series seemed pretty accurate. But some things were different. For instance, I had been told most of my life that Ervil was poisoned in prison. Hm... In any case, I thought the series was pretty well done.

Getting away with murder
ThatDoesntMatter19 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
While interesting, the docu-series is very repetitive and jumps from shocking high crime to everyday life for the kids, which was really frustrating. Not that that's not interesting, but it was edited wrong imo.

Rena Chynoweth, angelic features, interviewed on the BBC, then details her shooting of a stranger to her because she was ordered to. Wow. That really was the most shocking part of all, how she could sit there and act the victim. Double jeopardy should not be applicable in those cases. You admit to murder? So what that you got off at your trial through perjury (all lying in court is perjury imo), you go to jail for that! Of COURSE you had a choice. I am really and deeply appalled.

Evil Ervil got what was overdue, he got off easy in the end.

The following murders are horrible, committed by disturbed people. It was really a deal with the devil having them convicted due to a co-conspirator confessing, who could have stopped it all before it happened.

We all get brainwashed from birth onwards. The society and family we get born into determine our view of the world. Good luck to all children. But especially to those that are taught they are chosen.
