Actor Nathan Fillion has been the lead in several hit shows, with one of his most popular projects being Firefly. The show has been canceled for years, and yet Fillion is still recognized by the series to this day. However, he also starred in the hit series Castle, attracting a new legion of fans. But which one does he think brought him the most popularity?

It’s easy to see why Fillion would be recognized for Castle. The show was a hit on the network series ABC during its original run. But surprisingly, Firefly might’ve rivaled Fillion’s Castle fame even at the peak of the show’s run. Firefly only lasted for one season from 2002 to 2003. Whereas Castle had a long eight-season run.

The term "procedural" refers to series that follow the "one episode – one plot" format. This formula is often criticized for its simplicity and incompatibility with deep character development, but it is still very popular because of its convenience for the average viewer – you can start watching the project from any episode and not miss anything.
The Rookie was a pleasant exception – despite its format, it allowed for character development, and cross-cutting plots could drag on for many episodes while intertwining with the investigation in each episode.
The Rookie Episodes Are Less And Less Connected to Each Other
However, red flags about the show's oversimplification, which fans are increasingly complaining about, began to appear in the very first seasons.

The Rookie fans are going to have to wait a bit longer than usual to find out what comes next after a finale cliffhanger, but hey, at least no one’s life is hanging in the balance this time! The ABC drama will be back in the midseason as opposed to fall 2024. So is that going to affect the story being told or a potential time jump? Not according to executive producer Alexi Hawley. “I don’t think so. I found out around the upfronts when they make those decisions, but I don’t think it needs to interrupt—I mean, it’s not a cliffhanger per se,” he tells TV Insider. “We don’t have to come back the second after we left, which is kind of what we had to do going into Season 6. But it’s within a week or two that we’ll come back, time-wise.

Steven Spielberg gave Firefly star Nathan Fillion one of his first big breaks by casting him in Saving Private Ryan. But he soon became frustrated with himself after he couldn’t do this pivotal scene in the movie.
Nathan Fillion couldn’t do the 1 thing he was brought on to do in ‘Saving Private Ryan’ Nathan Fillion | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Fillion caught a lucky break when he was cast in Spielberg’s critically acclaimed WW2 film. He was hired after moving to Los Angeles, where he wasn’t getting acting work for a long time. The scene Fillion was brought on for was a small one requiring him to cry. Normally, this would’ve been an easy scene to do for The Rookie star, as the actor was already experienced with crying on cue.

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards is becoming one of the biggest stars in the NBA. He was selected with the first pick in the 2020 draft and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 2023, he made his first All-Star appearance. That was also the year he went public with Jeanine Robel.
A few months after giving Robel a shoutout during his 44-point game performance, their relationship made headlines for the wrong reasons when Instagram model Paige Jordae accused Edwards of cheating on Robel with her and then paying for her to have an abortion.
Around that same time, Robel announced that she was pregnant with Edwards’ child. The couple ended up working things out and staying together. Since then though, many people have had questions about the pair including how much older Robel is than Edwards. Here’s the answer to that and more on the athlete and his girlfriend.

Actor Nathan Fillion had just completed his run as Castle when he was cast in The Rookie. But he admitted he sometimes found it hard to leave his Castle character behind when doing the hit ABC series.
Nathan Fillion’s ‘Castle’ habits died hard Nathan Fillion | Nicole Wilder/Getty Images
It might’ve taken a while for Fillion to truly shake off Richard Castle for The Rookie. In the ABC series, Fillion found himself in somewhat familiar territory. Like Castle, The Rookie saw Fillion’s character, John Nolan, solving crimes. So it might’ve been easy to channel Rick Castle from time to time, even after the show’s end.
But personality-wise, Castle and Nolan couldn’t have been any more different. Rick Castle was a mystery writer who tagged along with police officers, many times unwelcomed, for his own amusement at first. The character also didn’t always take...

Following “Billie & Emma” (2018), Filipino director Samantha Lee has been on Gen Zs' lips for her genuine and sweet portrayal of sapphic youth. Last year, she returned with her third feature “Rookie”, greeted with the same enthusiasm. Since then, the film has been a tour de force in many international festivals, bringing Filipino same-sex love stories to audiences around the globe.
Rookie is screening at UdineFar East Film Festival 2024
Written by Lee and Natts Jadaone, “Rookie” focuses on two apparent rivals in an all-girls Catholic school during their junior years. Due to her height, laid-back newcomer Ace (Pat Tingjuy) is recruited by Coach Jules (Agot Isidro) for the San Lorenzo Angels volleyball team. Ace finds the opportunity frustrating as she used to be a basketball player at her previous school. Being, in fact, a “rookie” in the new team and not knowing anything about volleyball, she earns the ire of Jana (Aya Fernandez), the team captain.

Chenford fans, how are you all doing?
If The Rookie Season 6 Episode 6 wasn't anything else, it was utterly brutal for those viewers who love the fan-favorite 'ship as we watched a multi-season-long slow-burn relationship that appeared rock solid get pulled from beneath our feet in the blink of an eye.
The hour also presented us with another notorious Rookie villain who may unsurprisingly pop up again and have Bailey and Nolan reach an underwhelming decision about parenthood.
We also saw that rookies Celina and Thorsen still have much to learn.
On the topic of Celina, will we ever delve deeper into an actual storyline that addresses the series of errors she makes and the consequences of her actions hitting her full force?
It's hard to know if Celina's more recent and ongoing pattern of fumbling something up reflects her and something deeper that we've yet to explore or speaks to...

Actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic were once reportedly at odds with each other on the set of Castle. Neither have corroborated the reports. But if there’s one thing the two actors didn’t see eye-to-eye on, it was the relationship between the characters.

Back in the earlier years of Castle, the series was known to play up the romantic tension between Fillion’s and Katic’s characters. The two led completely different lives before crossing paths. Fillion’s Richard Castle was a crime novelist, whereas Katic’s Kate Beckett was a real-life officer. When Castle started investigating crimes alongside Kate, he sometimes proved to be a valuable asset to the police. This led to Castle gradually earning both the character’s respect and attention over time.

Actor Nathan Fillion has become a reliable leading man when it comes to shows like The Rookie. He was already attached to the hit series Castle, and continued his success with the police procedural. The Rookie creator himself once explained why he felt Fillion might’ve stood out from other leading men in the entertainment industry.

Hawley already had Fillion in mind before he even had his first script for The Rookie. The producer only had a premise for the show, which he thought Fillion might’ve had trouble putting faith in. The actor also just finished up doing another long-running series in Castle. At the time, Fillion might not have been ready to do yet another network series full time. Actor Nathan Fillion has worked with a few notable guest stars during his time with The Rookie cast. But there was one guest star who he surprised with his new attitude.
Nathan Fillion | Erica Parise/Getty Images This former ‘Castle’ star was shocked by how much Nathan Fillion changed on ‘The Rookie’
Fillion has been a part of some of television’s most critically praised shows. Before The Rookie, he was known for playing millionaire author Richard Castle in the titular series Castle. Many of Fillion’s former Castle co-stars have made small appearances on The Rookie, from Jon Huertas to Tamala Jones.
Jones, who played a medical examiner on the hit series, portrayed a wife to a former rap star on The Rookie. She was more than excited to team up with her former Castle co-star. But she was surprised at Fillion’s newfound maturity on set.
“That was so great.

How's the saying go? "Ain't nobody fresher than our clique."
And they sure as heck aren't as badass, either. The Rookie crew is the epitome of "squad goals," and I can't think of a better hour to showcase that than the milestone 100.
Without even trying, The Rookie Season 6 Episode 2 naturally paid homage to itself with an hour that delivered the perfect blend of humor, drama, action, callbacks, and ship goodness that makes the series so addictive and lovable: all smiles, no notes.
But alas, we can't leave things there, so let's dive into this fun hour that most likely left true Rookie fans grinning from ear to ear.
As far as weddings go, Nolan and Bailey had a great one.
They managed to nod at some of the drama that can unfold at a Rookie wedding without detracting from the momentous occasion.

Kevin Atwater is the very definition of a person who walks around with the world's weight on his shoulders.
He typically carries it well enough, leading with a big heart, a soft voice, a gentle demeanor, and a smile.
While we typically recognize the positive attributes of what could be perceived as a hero and a martyr complex, Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 5 explored the underbelly of that and highlighted its adverse effects.
Our boy, Kevin Atwater, took the robbery case personally, internalized every faction, and spent the entire hour beating himself up.
It's a good sign that Atwater could spend this entire case trying to ensure he made the right calls and was tormented over losing Corey.
If you aren't deeply affected by losses, replaying how you could've done things better and holding yourself to a high standard, you shouldn't be in the job.

These days, it seems like almost everyone aspires to be famous at some point. In light of this, it makes sense that a large number of people are curious about how wealthy celebrities get. Of course, this is a topic of great interest because some TV stars have made at least $1 million a season. For example, fans of Alexi Hawley’s police procedural crime drama series The Rookie are curious to know about the income of the cast members.
And it seems that the leading face of the series, Nathan Fillion, is no ‘rookie’ when it comes to earning big bucks in the TV industry. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the Canadian-American actor, who portrays John Nolan, the oldest rookie, is said to be raking in a whopping $100,000 per episode for his work on The Rookie. Talk about a payday!

Finally, some great content!
The Rookie is back with the action, drama, humor, and, truthfully, an occasionally choppy opener with The Rookie Season 6 Episode 1.
But the promise of a season worth devouring is right there for the taking.
Its return has everything we love and appreciate about this series jampacked into the first of a two-part opener that pays homage to the series well.
The Rookie has never shied away from jamming a million things into a single 45-minute installment, so if there is ever a show that feels well-equipped to produce a content-heavy season with half the episodes, it's them.
Yes, some aspects of the premiere felt choppy. But the strong, action-packed opening carried forward the adrenaline-inducing momentum of The Rookie Season 5 Episode 22.
There are so many moments within this series when it genuinely feels like you're watching a high-caliber action flick before your eyes.

ABC kicked off the post-strike return of its scripted series last week with the network’s three comedies, one of which, flagship Abbott Elementary, received an early Season 4 renewal just a couple of days later. Following his TCA session on Saturday and ahead of the rollout of ABC’s drama lineup next week, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich spoke with Deadline about the effects from the dual Hollywood strikes which are the reason the new seasons of the broadcast scripted series are premiering in midseason and the launch of most new scripted shows, including ABC’s High Potential, was pushed to 2024-25.

Principal Ava Coleman is ringing in the school year with some strict new changes and this time, she means business! (Yes, you read that right.)
In the Season 3 trailer for Abbott Elementary (which premieres with a one-hour block Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 9/8c on ABC), Ava reveals that she went to Harvard over the summer where she “truly learned what it takes to do the job as a principal.” The lack of her usual off-color jokes and the addition of cameras she placed “all over this joint” understandably have the Abbott teachers feeling quite unsettled. Plus, Janine tests out some off-brand curse words!
