Class struggle in a house in Tucumán
danybur24 December 2020
I saw the highly praised by critics Los owners, a film from Tucumán and a lucky Argentine antecedent of Parasite, since it deals with how those in charge of a farm in Tucumán occupy the owners' house every time they are absent.

First film by Agustín Toscano and Ezequiel Radusky acclaimed by almost all the critics, perhaps it could be classified as a comedy, articulated by the evolution of the character of Rosario Bléfari (very well in her role), a concheta (upper class woman) from Buenos Aires appearing for his sister's wedding. The first half suffers from certain repetitions and a rhythm that does not grow, concentrating on the end a change in tone and register that I do not know if it is adequate.

In short: an interesting idea but uneven in its realization.

A film with a very original pose on the relations between social classes in Argentina

Warning: Spoilers
Set in the province of Tucumán, shows a family of humble origin , where its members work as guards in a cottage with adjoining farms. This family is dedicated to using housing patterns, while they are not without their consent. From this basic story, situations that create a strange climate , where the poor seem fascinated to use goods and spy on their rich patterns in an alignment state that does not leave much room for rebellion are generated. Rather these poor strategy seems to be to seek loopholes through which something can usufruct of the life of the rich. They use their house, eat their food, watch on your TV, in their bathrooms are sanitized, but avoid direct contact, almost to the end . When one of the housewives organized a meeting with the intention of seducing the youngest of the poor family, a misunderstanding makes intimate party fail, but first in what will be perhaps one of the most humiliating scenes of the film, the owners donate clothes of his men to boys from poor family, and ask them to put them in the same meeting. They abide meekly, closing a circle of obedience and subjection of who do not know or will not want escape.

The Dull, The Slow and The Ugly
Rubicx18 December 2013
Having visited Argentina several times and knowing about some of its great movies, I had looked forward to seeing The Owners (Los Dueños). Unfortunately, I found the movie incredibly dull and slow and for a country that is known for good looking people, I had to ask myself why was every cast member somewhere in a range from burnt out to below average to bad looking. The director clearly abused his privileges regardless of story. The knife scrapping across the toast, the drive backwards in the car, the melancholic faces, but so what? What did any of those directorial scenes add to the story. Nothing. Argentina can do much better than this film.
