She's a pain.
LSAinPA30 November 2023
The main character spends the whole movie getting childishly upset over things that aren't worth getting upset over. She gets mad at the guy because he doesn't say he's a famous football player, so what? She gets mad because, well, a lot. And he supposed to suddenly care about her because she's funny it's smart etc.. I don't see her being funny and smart I just see her being a pill. And he likes her because she treated him like a person, but she stopped treating him like a person really early on. Just ridiculous. Kudos for a nod to the original Notting Hill, because the dad is seen reading a copy of "Horse and Hound."

It was good until it wasn't.

Warning: Spoilers
This was an enjoyable movie with several fun moments but, and here is the spoiler...they forgot to film the ending. My wife and I actually laughed out loud the non-ending was so bad. Think of reading a book only to find that the author never wrote the last chapter and that is what you have here.

To me, the actors and production staff did well and, overall, it was a good movie. Yes, there are several traditional Hallmarkish moments but not horribly so. It was just that horrible lack of any ending.

From what we can tell, the lead actress, Sarah Ramos, has continued with her relationship with the lead guy but what about that job she had accepted off in foreign lands?. Did she throw everything away regarding job prospects? Did she take the job and commute back to see lead guy? What? She certainly is not wearing a wedding ring in the last scene so, what gives?

All it would have taken is a very brief scene to explain developments but, nope, it just seems that the producers got tired of making the movie and just stopped, while leaving the audience hanging. Frustrating. Very Frustrating.

A British Christmas
allmoviesfan30 November 2023
Featuring plenty of the Christmas traditions I know and love as an Australian, and filmed on location in London - which is a big deal, as many Hallmark Christmas movies are set in cities that they're not actually filmed in - Christmas in Notting Hill is a decent festive romance centered around Graham Savoy (William Moseley, of 'The Royals' and 'The Chronicles of Narnia' fame) who is an injured Premier League soccer/football star who must consider his future in the game. He meets Georgia (Sarah Ramos), a special education teacher from America, in London to celebrate Christmas with her sister.

Some Hallmark tropes feature here, but with a decidedly British touch.

Mosely and Ramos are pretty good together, but there were a few scenes that didn't make sense. Like Graham being able to walk and run despite him supposedly having an ACL tear.

Reasonable entertainment, but not nearly as enjoyable as, say, 'A Biltmore Christmas'.

A somewhat Notting Hill remake only gender swapped.
lisafordeay1 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Christmas In Notting Hill is a 2023 romantic comedy starring Sarah Ramos(Wizards Of Waverly Place),William Mosely(The Chronicles Of Narnia franchise),Joelle Rae,Peter Rothwell and Conor Mullen. Directed by Ali Liebert, the story follows an American named Georgia Bright(Ramos)who is a special education teacher in Indiana. Ever since her mother passed away, Georgia has acted as a mother figure to her younger sister Lizzie Bright(Rae)who has since moved to England,UK with her boyfriend Henry(Rothwell).

While she has been accepted to grad school in Indiana, she has also been recommended to another program that would take her around the world teaching special education.

Instead of spending Christmas in Indiana Georgia decides to travel to London to spend time with her father Michael Bright(Mullen)and her sister. While in London, Georgia bumps into English Footballer Graham Savoy(Mosely), the captain of Newbourne FC unbeknown to Georgia.

Slowly over time, Georgia discovers that Graham is Henry's older half brother and Graham's brother is planning on proposing to Lizzie on Christmas Day.

Closer to the end than the beginning of his career, Graham is at a predicament due to a knee injury which may signal the end of his footballer career. Will romance blossom between the Special Ed American Teacher and the famous footballer?.

Yes it's predictable but I liked it.

A London Hallmark Holiday Romance that involves soccer and not the royals.
cgvsluis4 December 2023
I enjoyed the opening parallel between a group of small kids playing soccer and a professional UK football team playing to the tune of Elton John's "Step into Christmas". Georgia Bright (Sarah Ramos) travels to London to visit her baby sister for Christmas. When she arrives her sister, Lizzie (Joelle Rae) has a whole British Christmas itinerary...including shopping and getting Christmas crackers even though neither one knows what they are. While out shopping alone, Georgia runs into a gentleman...or maybe he runs into her, either way s one of a kind ornament is broken and Georgia, not knowing he is the famous captain of the local football team (soccer) Graham Savoy (William Moseley), treats him like a regular person. The novelty of being treated like a regular chap intrigues Graham who eventually helps her finish her shopping trip...including the Christmas crackers. What they both eventually find out is that their younger siblings are not only dating, but Graham's younger brother Henry is actually planning to propose to Georgia's sister Lizzie this Christmas. This throws the two of them together and eventually makes them accomplices.

Meanwhile there is this whole sub storyline about both Georgia and Graham questioning their futures and their chosen professions.

Things to like: there were some cute nods to the movie Notting Hill, Georgia and Lizzie's dad with his Hawaiian shirts was a kick, the two girls seemed to have nice camaraderie, there are some great touristy British things and Christmas traditions like the Christmas crackers. I think the drag queen Christmas special was a little over the top. I did enjoy the extended family for the holidays.

Things that kept this from being in the top tier of Hallmark movies...the injury recovery was unrealistic, Georgia's anger at Graham seemed inappropriate, and finally the leads seemed to lack chemistry with one another. The fight between sisters over the potential marriage of the younger sister seemed disproportionate to their relationship...making them seem close sometimes but like strangers others.

Overall, it was a good film that I think romantics will appreciate. I recommend it to hallmark fans and Anglophiles alike.

Come for the football, stay for the romance....
PerryAtTheMovies4 December 2023
5.8/10 (6)

Same story, different country. It doesn't matter if it's America or England. It's a small world where the love interests will collide.

The thing that drew me to checking out this film was the inclusion of Association Football. Football is my favourite sport, and so I got curious on how the romantic dynamic would be incorporated.

It went about as well as I imagined. Only a slight bit of the game being shown, and the rest inferred along the way. The initial romantic meet up was classic, and the continuation really wasn't much of a surprise.

The two main leads were cute together, and had good chemistry. The second couple of the film, while not the primary story per se, they were also enjoyable.

My downsides were passion, editing and effects. While I did enjoy the actors, at times, I didn't feel there was a lot of passion which made the less than ninety minute film feel stretched. The editing and effects were a little choppy at times. Quick succession of camera cuts that seemed unnecessary. Also, the effects of snow felt too fake which bothered me for some shots. It looked like an overlay on the screen.

Overall, not a terrible movie. It's bad enough to get a 5.8 out of me, but just good enough to be rated a 6. If you're a Hallmark fan then you won't go wrong and you'll enjoy it I'm sure. If you're not a Hallmark fan and you're being forced into watching one then this is one of the better ones. You may still dislike it, but it's not as cheesy as others.

That's all for now. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Until next time.... Enjoy the show!

Weak Hallmark effort
millerda-749-68349126 November 2023
The lead actress, Sarah Ramos, is so wooden, it was really hard to watch. At first, I thought it was just the storyline and the character, but no, even as the character was supposed to lighten up this Actress did not lighten up and was so wooden. It was really difficult to watch.

The lead male was charming though. I haven't seen him in many of the other Hallmark films, but would watch him in other films.

They also need to hire more professional hair and makeup artists. The hair for the women distracted from the action of the film. This particular film fell far short of the standards for a Hallmark movie.

Similar to the actual 'Notting Hill'
MickyG33311 December 2023
8.1 stars.

I didn't think it would be a spin on the actual 'Notting Hill', but I soon realized it was. It only shares one aspect though: celebrity dates a commoner. The story is about an American woman (Ramos) who gets swept up into the drama of a famous footballer (Moseley) who lives and plays in London. His brother who is British is dating her sister, an American, but she hasn't met the family yet. She flies to London over the holidays to finally meet this "mysterious" British family. She doesn't recognize him for the big sports icon, so he's intrigued and somewhat beguiled by her lack of interest. He's been searching for a woman to treat him as a normal citizen rather than a big time football star (soccer for the Americans).

As the story continues, there are some out of place moments which I attribute to acting styles. I disagree that the lead female is standoffish and difficult. I think it's just a quirk the actress is trying to convey, a bit odd at times, but she's portraying a serious person. I lean in favor of giving her the benefit of the doubt. I give her credit though, she is adept at the ice cold persona. Can't put a finger on why some uncomfortable moments, could be clashing performance methods, but as they say: "the show must go on".

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Christmas in Notting Hill', it's a pleasurable romance, entertaining through and through. In my opinion, many viewers don't feel Ramos is charismatic, however I think she has great presence. And Mr. Moseley is quite talented and gives a convincing performance.

A light holiday rom-com set in London.
Avidviewer-028473 December 2023
A formulaic Hallmark movie that thankfully didn't include the lead actress running her own business, going for a job promotion or developing another dumb app. The script and dialog weren't annoying and it's set in the UK with a talented cast who acted like they were having a good time. The acting was good except for the lead Sarah Ramos, surely Hallmark could have found a much better actress for the lead role.

This had a bum's rush ending which is common with rom-coms. They waste time with inane conversations where characters talk about being rushed with deadlines, while they stand or sit around just chatting.

So much Potential, but a Fail
bethygolightly26 November 2023
Had all the makings to be a good movie but lead actress was such bad casting. The male lead was perfect and plenty of nods to Notting Hill the movie, which I loved, but I felt no draw to the female lead -- she was sullen, grumpy, rude, in addition to just blatant bad acting. Finished this movie liking all the support cast but not understanding why he found her appealing. There were cute elements throughout but she was so antagonistic against liking him I was left wanting better for him. The rest of the storyline was nice and had the great Christmas feels. The setting in London during Christmas was also great.

Love at first sight and good kisses
jeni82-17 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I usually do not watch Hallmark movies set in foreign countries because the bad accents sound like nails on a chalkboard. I actually loved this one. It was engaging and kisses streamy and the accents were forgivable. It kept me watching. My favorite part was when she made the statement that the secret he let slip was safe with her because she didn't know the people getting engaged and yet the viewer knew that she actually knew both. For a change there was more than one kiss and it wasn't started in the last minute of the movie and didn't come from out of nowhere by characters with no chemistry. There was significant build-up to the kisses so it actually seemed like it should've happened. It was weird that they both lied to their siblings acting like they were total strangers when they officially met. There have been a few this year where the conflict is overblown to the point of where I don't know what they see in the other person to beg for a do-over. I felt this was one of those times but not as bad as a few others. I blame it on the lead actress. She goes off on him because she didn't realize he is famous even though they had just gotten to where they were talking about careers when she cut him off due to getting a call. The thing is I saw chemistry with them love at first sight type of chemistry. That had to be why he apologized for something he didn't need to. I actually viewed his withholding his job as testing the waters to see if she really liked him for him rather than for his popularity as it seems like he would have women hitting on him all the time. To be critical of the guy being over the top, too, when the lead actress saw the tabloid, it seemed that she was entirely focused on finding the missing necklace. So it seemed unrealistic that the lead guy would think it is because of the tabloid headline. The injury recovery also did not seem realistic (for instance, sitting on a curb talking and seemingly not having much issue getting up). And the recovery didn't seem like a good reason to being late to multiple family events (extra media appearances, doctor visits, and therapy were all that were portrayed as his schedule). The actress's reaction to her sister wanting to get engaged was also out of proportion to how their sisterly relationship was portrayed. It was portrayed like that she has a problem with the guy that she barely knew rather than trying to protect the younger sister that the lead helped raise then totally flipped out about it. There were small details that showed how much they hit it off right away. Like the lead forgetting about the bag he left on the table. Or letting a stranger off the street in a foreign country walk her back to his parent's house (I wouldn't do that but she was somehow drawn to him). Thought it was weird that they didn't exchange phone numbers with as much as they seemed to hit it off right away. It was almost like the world kept having them see each other so they eventually took the hint and got together. Honestly, the lead actress should've picked up on that he was well known or there should've been a better explanation as to why she didn't pick up on the cues. It was obvious to the viewer with the picture on the bus and people swooning over him. The rest of the acting was awesome at supporting the leads without getting in the way.

Wonderful script wasted with terrible directing
yasmine-egle6 December 2023
What a wonderful story and cast! Really wanted to like it more, but the directing choices and directing itself it just awful.. So many cringe moments that I stopped counting after half the movie. Cast was wonderful and did the best they could, but me being in their places, it would have been terribly difficult to follow direction in some scenes, because it was just so terrible. I really think that the wonderful script and great cast was wasted, because the was just a very bad desicion made in choosing directors. You watch the film, this sweet story that flows and see how almost every scene could have been different because they all just feel pushed and made with force, not ease and christmasy inspiration. What a pitty.

Wife (die-hard Hallmark fan) fell asleep watching this
iowatodd9 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kind of wish I had as well. Kept waiting for it to get good. It just didn't. Lots of dialog and not much plot. The only drama was in the head of the lead female character... well, that and the fact that she lost a necklace. Not sure what the guy saw in her.

I was rolling my eyes within 5 minutes. Woman goes home with a complete stranger that bumps into her at a Christmas festival because she's a mess and has to get cleaned up. Didn't look like much of a mess to me, and really? Go home with a stranger? Good way to get deleted.

Anyhow, this movie was very disappointing. Had zero of the charm of Notting Hill. My wife definitely didn't miss anything!

Nice but not Notting Hill
Jackbv12327 November 2023
Actually I don't remember enough about the movie Notting Hill to compare quality other than the fact that it had A-list stars and this Christmas movie doesn't even have the top Hallmark stars. Having said that, I really liked Sarah Ramos. And I like this movie for what it is and despite what it isn't.

There are no great highs or lows or surprise. There isn't a lot of tension other than the celebrity chaos and Georgia being set to return to the US. The story revolves around the fact that the American Georgia has no idea who Graham is and he allows that to remain so he can enjoy being treated normally.

Ramos and William Moseley have chemistry. Their relationship building is pleasant. The acting is decent as is the dialogue.

I give this a slightly higher rating than I would typically based on what I describe and I can't really say why except that the movie is mostly upbeat.

A British Christmas plus soccer!!
kall669523 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Mostly a good Hallmark Christmas movie. Nice touch having the British location and references to the movie Notting Hill. (Dad reading a copy of "Horse and Hound."

A few issues, however:

1. The male lead, William Moseley, is absolutely gorgeous!!! The female lead, Sarah Ramos, is not and her hairstyle is not attractive on her. I can't really understand why he is the least bit attracted to her as she is sullen and grumpy most of the time. Apparently the reason he likes her is because she has no idea who he is (famous soccer star). Which she then gets mad at him when she finds out he's a soccer star.

2. In the scene on the soccer field after the kiss and snow starts falling- it is OBVIOUSLY not real snow as the reel shows a huge chunk of paper or fake snow repeatedly.

3.. Georgia loses her necklace in a pub after telling Graham's mom that the clasp has a "mind of it's own" and then after Graham finds it in plain sight, she puts it on again like there was nothing wrong with the clasp.

4. There is no University of Indiana. It's called Indiana University.

The proposal scene between his brother and her sister was very sweet, however. The British Christmas traditions with the crackers and hats is great.

Lovely, but lacking.
rdubz-2351820 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I actually enjoyed this movie! Haven't seen William Moseley in anything since the Narnia films of my childhood, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him in this. Graham was a sweet, well-rounded character. Georgia felt a bit childish at times, (and there were moments that Lizzie as the younger sis acted far more mature), but it wasn't a dealbreaker. Good chemistry and was super invested in both romance storylines. I loved how Georgia and Graham's connection was instant, but even so, they built a friendship first before it delved into romance.

That said, I think this film would've been much better had they not left out a big part...what happened with Georgia's career? We know she accepted the international job, but did she? Based off the epilogue, we never see her teaching again lol. I just thought it was odd to make that a recurring plot point but not go back to it in depth. Especially since it seemed at the bar that she felt like she rushed the decision and didn't think it through.

I also think the typical third act misunderstanding between the couple could've had more to it. Georgia being upset about the tabloid was odd, because not only are they commonplace in the UK, but it's not like Graham himself wrote it lol. It would've been nice to have it where Graham found out about her taking the job and he also gets upset because she never told him about it just when their relationship was beginning.

All in all, I enjoyed this purely from the romance angle, not so much the storytelling angle!

Cringe Moments
therusticapothecary27 November 2023
I went into this movie with low expectations, especially after I saw the previews. Now, there are times when I'm wrong. However, this is not one of those times. I have to say, the lead actress who played Georgia, I found her character to be annoying, and I didn't really care for how she treated her sister. She wasn't supportive at all. The leading actor, I enjoyed him in the show The Royals, but the whole ACL tear and him walking around like it wasn't a big deal was definitely cringe. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. The entire storyline felt off, and it wasn't easy to remain engaged.

Fun but could've been better
mblake-6242610 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They were cute together. Cute movie. I love how he tried to keep his identity a secret.

The drama in the first half about him not telling her who he was though, that should not have been a big deal. If I were in her shoes, I would have just laughed and would have felt so flattered that someone famous was interested in spending time with me. I would have not been mad at him. Just another example of a stupid Hallmark drama.

The main actors had good chemistry together.

Side note: I'm the same age as William Moseley and I had a crush on him back when he was Chronicles of Narnia and apparently he's still cute. I hope Hallmark puts him in more movies.

The sister drama was stupid too. I can get them having a difference of opinion. Why would the older one stomp out of the bar? Very childish. Made no sense.

The dialogue/script at times was lazy.

The brothers dating sisters story is a little backwoods. I mean I know it could happen, but there's just something a little weird about it.

The dad actor was real weird. Not his character but his acting.

I don't normally like when Hallmark just copies famous movies, but for some reason I like this one. Maybe it's because the couple was cute together and maybe because I really like Notting Hill. Who knows.

The third drama at the market when she sees the magazine... It's all just ridiculous. I don't know if it could have been made better or what but all the different little dramas were just stupid and could have been better written easily.

How he found the necklace was also incredibly stupid. It was right there in plain sight. And you're telling me she didn't see it herself?

The proposal was sweet.

It was weird that we don't really have resolution on her career options. Is she working around the world? Where is she working? Is she in England with him? I just didn't like the how they didn't wrap that up. He got what he wanted. He got to play again and win. But what about her?

Cute movie, even if the script was lame at times.

Maybe soccer fans will enjoy?
dankolbet21 December 2023
OK, truth time. I've never seen Notting Hill, the neighborhood or the movie, so many of the connections of that movie were lost on me, so if you're looking for special insight, ask Julia Roberts, not me. So, we have an English soccer star recovering from an injury and an American school teacher falling for each other. Our American doesn't know who he is, despite the fact that he is the brother of her sister. Hmm. That's the biggest stretch of this film. Credit where credit is due, they shot this thing at least partially in London and the production values show. It's no classic, but it's unique and that's worth a watch.

Could have consulted a physical therapist.
kizat26 November 2023
They clearly had no idea how to represent an ACL tear or the recovery from one either. He should have been in a brace with crutches because the only way to repair an ACL is with surgery, not a TENS machine. He would have been non-weight bearing for 6 weeks after surgery. As they had shown him getting injured right at the beginning of our story line he would have only been out of the hospital a few days and most definitely would not be walking around London. The only thing they got right about the recovery is the recovery time. Otherwise it was a cute predictable Hallmark movie that makes you believe in Christmas.

Enjoyable
jamhendr-7225122 December 2023
This is one of the more enjoyable Hallmark movies released so far this year. The leads were charming. The situations are low-key droll. The dry humor seems very British to me.

For instance, the heroine Georgia (Sarah Ramos) obliviously ignores all the signs that Graham (William Moseley) is famous, including the literal signs with his picture on them.

Later, Graham tells Georgia that the bag from the jewelry store was for his brother, who was about to propose to his girlfriend. Don't tell anyone, though, because it's a secret. Georgia responds, oh, who am I going to tell? She says she doesn't know the brother or his girlfriend (aka her sister).

And the Secret Santa hijinks, which I won't describe here.

Other positives: I liked the way they describe a panto. Spot on. I think there's usually a bit more of a plot to it.

I liked the supporting cast, especially the brother (Peter Rothwell) and the mother (Kate O'Toole). The fathers (Ford and Mullen) are funny together.

TERRIBLE FEMALE LEADS
miroslavbasicp15 January 2024
I mean it is a Hallmark movie, we watch those for relaxations and escape into romantic fantasy, but I would expect at least some standards even in their productions. They have so many lovely actors so I do not understand how did they so fail with the casting in this one.

William Moseley and the actor that plays his brother are lovely, charming and talented, radiating with warmth and so is the rest of the cast. But the lead actress and her sister were beyond terrible, how did such two wooden actresses even pass the audition? Lead actress was lost in literally every scene, with idiotic facial expressions that we would expect in a high school not in a production from a worldwide popular channel. She was cringeworthy in literally every scene showing absolutely no charm nor acting skills, and of course she had no chemistry at all with always lovely Moseley. She just shows absolute disrespect towards the audience, her colleagues and Hallmark with her absolute lack of skill and preparedness.

The story itself is mostly ridiculous and boring, she is a gym class teacher but has never heard of a world famous footballer?

The rest of the cast was lovely, and I would like to mention Marcus Lamb who only appears in one scene at the beginning as Williams coach, but is still very magnetic and charming and I hope he gets some lead roles at Hallmark because he certainly has charisma for it.

Christmas portrayed as very dark
terryhouse-878711 March 2024
This movie was a bit different in its tropes, location, and theme. I love the on location films! They give me a chance to see and experience other places and traditions from the comfort of my living room! The views of London were beautiful.

The acting was hit and miss. The lead character Georgia seemed easily upset and angry. I loved Graham. He was very warm and believable.

The story didn't conclude very well. There were a lot of plot holes in the last few minutes but the ending kind of dragged without being satisfying.

The thing that bothered me the most and is becoming a regular event in the new Hallmark is the total absence and ignoring of anything spiritual about Christmas. We see Jewish traditions and different cultural ideas. But Christmas Eve is relegated to galas, balls and dances, tree lightings, programs, and in this movie a dark drunken barcscene. What is happening here? Very unsettling.

Hallmark, it's inclusive to include Christianity occasionally. Hallmark, true diversity is showing many religious traditions, and not ignoring Christianity in Christmas. Please do better. No wonder many are turning to GAF where they can find the real meaning of Christmas, not this emptiness that is becoming the new norm at Hallmark.

Meh
mbiv7771 December 2023
I watched this for Sarah Ramos. She earned it by being the only redeeming feature in last year's Kismet Christmas where her love interest was...er...Rock Hudsonesque.

I don't have a lot of interest in these movies set in Europe. Canada is already a foreign country.

This movie is about a woman from Indiana who goes to the UK to spend Christmas with her little sister ( kind of a hottie if you ask me). She has what passes for a meet cute these days with a famous soccer player, though she has no idea who he is.

He's also the brother of the guy who's about to propose to her sister.

Both are facing life crises, but somehow manage to pair off in the process.

It's not a terrible movie, it's just not terribly interesting.

Five.

Is Georgia the big sister or the selfish sister?
BA-99641 January 2024
I really like the cast of all but Georgia. This role is so annoying and the actress is even more annoying. No idea why the character Graham is interested in her. As a football player I would have thought he would want to be around professionals as well as a partner like himself. Georgia is either crying, angry, nagging or acting like she is 15 years old. All the other family members made me laugh and really enjoy their time on the screen. It was great the location of the movie was actually in London I enjoyed the architecture of the buildings and the homes. Would like to have given it a better score but due to the terrible acting for the Georgia character it only gets a 5.
