This program illustrates why languages should take more prominence in the uk.

Quite frankly, it is embarrassing to watch.

The English participants make embarrassing attempts to speak French, and seem to expect the French people to speak English!

I very frequently visit one of the featured towns, l'Isle sur Sorgues, and find the people helpful and polite, as the program shows, but the programme does nothing for the reputation of the English who make little or no effort to converse in the language of the country they are visiting.

I understand this is for the uk market, but subtitles could have been used alongside English participants speaking French.

This programme shows why schools should teach languages!

Look how disadvantaged they are.

Beautiful countryside and Sunshine and Good Light Entertainment

I started out thinking that this was drivel but after struggling through the first episode I started to enjoy the views of France, the relaxing sense of warmth and comfort of the location, the dealers daft but light banter and the interesting purchases and I got sucked in. I was actually quite sad when I realised I'd got to episode 20 and the end.

I see reviews with people complaining about lack of French skills in the dealers but it just reflects the sad reality of being British and being lucky to not have to learn another languages because most of the time everyone speaks your language.

If you are interested in buying and selling collectibles or just a lover of Provence and Southern France in general you can suspend your sense of reality for 45 minutes and make the best of an entertaining concept and pretend it's education. Stick with it and I suspect you will be hooked.
