- The film tells the story of a region and its people in upheaval. With the imminent dismantling of the local lignite industry and the public protest against climate change, the region near Cologne is directly confronted. Willy, Sina and Thomas live in Bedburg, a town near an active open-cast lignite mine and in the middle of several coal-fired power plants. The 3 residents from three generations are faced with the challenge to remain in structures or to break them up. Willy is in his mid-80s and had to relocate his village because of lignite in the 1970s - it was and still is his life's work as mayor. This task has also bound him firmly to his office and he still finds it difficult to let go of it. Thomas is also interwoven with the region. He is looking for the love of his life and does not find her. He rushes ahead with buying a house and dreams of starting a family. Sina represents the young active generation. She does not find herself in the fixed roles of man and woman and challenges herself with the local guards, where girls wear short skirts and dance to carnival music. She expresses her attitude in her self-written songs in her punk band.—Stephanie Englert
