Of the three first short films made by Bong Joon Ho (along with "Incoherence" and "White Man") all released in 1994, this is his weakest by far. It's
slightly interesting for his technique use with long static shots opposed to the whole movement given on the other pieces, but as story or ways to
connect with audiences is lacking in emotion and appeal.
It shows us a boy who thinks he can hear his dog through the distance and he tries to find him, though it's unclear if the dog went missing or if he's dead. For brief moments I almost connected with it in that sense that people linger deeply with familiar elements and the absence of a pet hits hard to such a painful manner when one imagines a loved pet returning home, on both occasions of being missing or no longer alive. In fact we hear the dog but we can't prove it is actually the boy's dog.
Joon Ho makes something too detached and too mysterious, and in the end I didn't felt immersed with neither my heart or my mind. It just killed a little of my curiosity in seeing another early film of his - the other two are outstanding fascinating works. 5/10.
