Really bad!
foreversmom5 October 2013
I cannot believe what I just watched.

This movie was so bad that I had to fast-forward through most of it. The acting is HORRIBLE! The woman that plays Amy is the best actor/actress in this film, and she wasn't very good.

The others just really stunk! I don't think "wooden" explains it. It was truly awful acting!

The story and plot aren't very good, and there is really nothing worth mentioning.

The "special effects" are so bad that I can't believe that this film was made recently.

Just truly AWFUL!

F Grade Flick
vamsi-free3 October 2013
I watched this film for the director and what a shame. Director failed seamlessly. Because, capturing some exotic locations and moving the characters here n there is NOT enough for a film. And the performances of the Hollywood crew appears worse than a C grade Indian film. What a waste of time. They couldn't even get the spell check on titles where they spelled screenplay as screenply. Personally felt, director is a disgrace to the Film Industry. Otherwise, why would he waste an opportunity of making an identity world wide with such a mediocre content and direction. Heard Director opined that Amy is his ticket to Hollywood. Happy to say, your ticket is still at the ticket counter and will never be sold.

Request small time foreign productions to look at extremely talented youngsters on you tube instead of collaborating with such so called rotten garbage.

Amy: Yes, I'm being generous here
Platypuschow24 August 2018
Amy's cover is a bit deceptive and makes it look like something it really is, and by that I mean good.

Curiously written and directed by a Bollywood composer it tells the story of an outbreak of possessions in a small Amish community. Amy our titular character has the power to see those who are possessed and a "spider sense" to detect when they are close.

It presently stands with a 2.0 rating which for those who use IMDb will appreciate is incredibly low. Is it deserving of that? No, but not far off.

It looks the part but sadly when it comes to plot it struggles and the special effects are painful to endure. I could do better, no seriously I literally could.

The cast vary from passable to awful, Christopher Atkins taking the title of worst performer in this movie by a long margin.

The concept is actually sound, the writer just wasn't competent enough to actually do something with it.

The Good:

Script is decent in places

The Bad:

Christopher Atkins is just awful

Some dreadful sfx

Almost feels like religious propaganda in places, especially the end

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

Even movie writers contradict the bible freely when quoting it

After 2000 years of prayers failing to accomplish anything people still do it because reasons

lol! just lol!
artyom_aa4 October 2013
Please disregard all comments praising this movie! They are either high or insane! I watched the entire movie out of curiosity. The effects are just funny! That's why I put "lol" in the title! It looks like my little sister made it on her desktop. Also the acting is so funny! It's like they were joking but unfortunately they were not! But you know what the story was kind of interesting. It's kinda childish but not bad. Also there is a lot of irrationality in the plot. Some characters behave so strangely without a reason. The ending was silly as well. To summarize the entire film, its very silly and irrational but if you have 2 hours to waste then go for it to kill time.

Worst film I have ever seen!
spotpendleton8 October 2013
Basically if you watch this film you will get bad acting (from every character in it), CGI effects that wouldn't look out of place in the 1950's and a script that makes children's TV look like Shakespeare. Half the film is taken up looking at the scenery whilst some amateur brutally smashes together various pieces of poor music and calls it a score. The only thing worth watching it for is the frankly laughable moments when "Chris" says something in a husky melodramatic voice and stares off into the distance! Altogether, a student course on film making could come up with a better film than this, the only horror you'll get from this is when you runaway screaming after the first 30 minuets.

What a waste of 94 minutes!
mjorahilly29 April 2016
Seriously, what the hell did I just watch? Dreadful acting, abysmal special effects. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I can't believe I spent money on this movie. Where did they find these actors? I was actually embarrassed for them. The acting was so wooden.I felt like turning it off after about 10 minutes but hoped it would get better - it didn't, it got worse! The script was horrendous - was it written by a child? In fact, I'm sure my 11 year old daughter could have written a better script. It was so bad, it prompted me to write this review (the first I've ever written). Don't waste your time or money. Avoid at all costs. If I could have given it zero stars, I would.

Saving (without) Grace
kosmasp23 November 2018
Behind every movie there are people that made them. And they have ambition as everyone. So to tell those people not just that you didn't like their movie, but that you think it's not good on many accounts, is disturbing. For them but also for me when I write these words. Don't get me twisted, good intentions aside, the "acting" in this is cringe wirthy (to say the least).

Is there anything that would warrant a light at the end of the tunnel? What I can say, the camera/photography of the movie is looking good. They also really tried to give this movie a certain look and wardrobe is essential (especially with a period piece). But does that all matter, when almost eveything else fails? The CGI is so ridiculous, it's not just not frightening, it's also not funny. You know as in "so bad it's good"? That doesn't happen here ... shame then

Must-Watch for Compellingly Atrocious Film Fans
okiecrabjp9 February 2015
I give it a 10 in the spirit of amazingly awful films, but I loved this movie! As soon as I read the summary, I knew I had to see it, and I am not disappointed so far. The acting is... well all of it is so ... awkward, sincere and compelling, somehow. An Amish Psychic girl. Demons. Someone I swore was John Denver. The acting. THE ACTING. "YOU'RE TEARING ME APART LISA" acting, only much, much worse.

I did NOT see THAT end coming. And what a tremendous parting line. This movie has to be seen to be believed. Even with its glacial pacing, it's still somehow constantly entertaining! If you love truly horrible but entertaining movies, do yourself a favor and see this!

Very promising start but a preposterous finish!
johannes2000-112 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very weird movie! Those who expect an old-fashioned possession-horror flick (as the cover of the DVD-box seems deliberately to hint at), are in for a (probably unpleasant) surprise, because it's totally different in style and content. No graphic horror, no blood or any gore. Instead you get a highly stylized and extremely slow-paced account of some demonic occurrences in a small Amish community, seen through the eyes of a young and susceptible Amish girl.

For the first half hour of the movie I was utterly charmed by it: the almost serene atmosphere, the beautiful musical score, the impressive photography, the rustic beauty of this little community and its surrounding nature, and last but definitely not least the strong screen-presence of Jessica DiGiovanni as Amy. Then, halfway in the movie, it all takes an ill-fated twist, as a mysterious man (Christopher Atkins) turns up as some sort of know-it-all regarding demonic possessions. The final show-down between him and the evil force is clearly meant to be climax of the movie, but it's just painfully preposterous, with beams of green light thrown at each other until the evil one falls apart in smoking embers. The end.

The cast mostly seemed to consist of good-willing locals, while Atkins must have suffered a sore throat after the shooting of his scenes, since he all the time grunted his lines as some-one with severe COPD. Jessica DiGiovanni in the first half of the movie acts very natural and easy but alas in the last part has to go totally over the top.

A more principal criticism is the curious attitude towards homosexuality (beware: serious spoilers!). The demon turns out to be a young guy who was cast out by the community because he was gay, and somehow has turned into a vengeful demon. This demon gets killed in the end, and all the inhabitants of the Amish community heave a sigh of relief, the afflicted ones instantly recover from their possession. Now I know that a demon is a bad thing, and maybe I'm just too sensitive in this regard, but this impresses me a bit as rewarding the bigots and stating that the gay guy was rightfully shunned (a bit like: he had a devil in him anyway!). I really wonder what director and writer Patnaiks agenda was on this point.

In short: a movie with very promising start but a preposterous finish, and a waste of a very beautiful and talented actress.

Terrible beyond everything i have seen so far!
chameleonaram4 November 2017
Honestly, when I see a rating of 2 stars I always think people have no taste or are too judging. But man, I even give it 1 star. From the moment the movie starts the thing even more irritating than the bad acting is the MUSIC! It really is terrible, this must be the worst soundtrack ever made. It believe me, that's not a matter of taste.

As I said before, the acting is irritating, but not only that. It feels like it is done by just some people they found on the streets and randomly put into the movie. The story is actually even worse! couldn't keep up with it because of the lack of interest you built up threw out the movie. I ACTUALLY STOPPED WATCHTING AFTER 40 MINUTES.Something I've never done before. Please do not watch...

Great horror film
simplyshirleys3 October 2013
Amy is a psychological horror film. It's about evil taking over an Amish community. There is a lot of suspense. It keeps you guessing. I was watching on the edge of my seat practically through most of the movie. The film doesn't have a ton of gore. It's more you get a feeling of a sense of impending doom as opposed to physical danger. The ending is great, you won't see it coming. And the acting is very good. I haven't seen Jessica DiGiovanni, who plays Amy, in movies before, but I'm sure I'll see more of her after this movie. And Christopher Atkins from "The Blue Lagoon" is in this movie also. He plays a creepy funeral director. I liked this movie. I would recommend to all horror movie fans out there.

Simple, creepy movie for younger teens
rockenkay28 December 2013
I'm better at watching slow moving plots than most.. I did enjoy it but if you're horror movie experienced, looking for anything more than a college production, it's not for you.. The first 60 minutes, I kept thinking a commercial would liven it up but after that, I enjoyed the simple effects and the story got interesting.. I'm glad I know about the Amish culture or I might have been a bit lost..

I'd watch it with my religious old mother, and I believe it would scare a slumber party full of 12 year old girls..

The actress playing Amy did a fine job.. Chris Atkins (from Blue Lagoon fame who never really got good rolls after that) was very watchable and the rest of the crew held their own and were believable but it is a low budget film and it shows.. AND like I said, I liked it but not enough to watch it again and I love watching good movies twice..

WHO'S YOUR MASTER?
nogodnomasters2 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Amish Amy (Jessica DiGiovanni) has returned from Rumspringa and becomes a devout member of the community. Her brother Daniel (Clayton Myers) has chosen not to return and is now shunned. Amy is being courted by Robert (Kurt Mason Peterson) who does not believe she has the power to see evil souls. This is an odd Lancaster, Pa. community, one where women pluck their eyebrows and only older members of the community have Pa. Dutch accents. Amy can see evil souls and is sought out by outsider Chris (Christopher Atkins) to help her clean her community of evil with a combination of lemons, dolls, and chanting.

The few special effects are low budget CG, something you might expect from a bad 90's film. The plot lacked depth and the actors lacked the ability to deliver convincing lines. If you can make it through the entire film it is worth one punch of your "hacker card."

Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.

Terrible indeed
Leofwine_draca2 June 2023
Well, this was astonishingly awful. It's an indie horror flick set in a rural Amish community where one of the girls is possessed by the devil. The original title is AMY but it was retitled AMIE for UK DVD release, perhaps to avoid mix-ups with the Amy Winehouse documentary of the same title. The most bizarre thing about this utterly terrible film is that it was randomly made by a Bollywood composer and his crew in America. The main star is Christopher Atkins, of THE BLUE LAGOON fame, but the only interest lies in his resemblance to John Denver. The plot is non-existent, the film lurches from one wooden scene to the next, and the guy playing Satan delivers the worst performance of them all. Terrible!

Horrible
jasmiriah27 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So the beginning starts off like most horror films: girl running on an abandoned street, in the dark. That was all fine and dandy, until they panned to the next scene, That's when a movie, that "could" have produced A-List actors, took a turn for the worst. The acting is undeniably h o r r i b l e. I've seen some cheesy films, but for a movie that is super recent, it's just horrible. I mean seriously, Jean Claude van Damme can write a script better than this, and he sucks at script writing. Even the cover picture is misleading. I am a huge horror/thriller fan, and this, there are No words. So, May I suggest acting, directing, cinematography and script writing classes.

A very different kind of Amish story
charlieswens7 October 2013
My best friend's high school son, recommended this movie to me. I was hesitant at first because he's a teenager. But I'm glad I saw it. Because who doesn't want to see crazy, scary Amish people? All I ever see of Amish people is what I've seen on the TV show "Breaking Amish". That show is good but no one on there makes me scream. This movie did. "Amy" is nothing like that show. These Amish people scared me. I liked the story, too. This Amish community is getting taken over by the devil or whatever, demonic possession. Maybe because they are being punished for their sins, sex is tempting :) Jessica DiGiovanni, who plays Amy, is really good in this role. I liked the movie and would recommend to those who like anything Amish and anything scary.

A chilling tale of possession
hender11883 October 2013
Amy is an everyday Amish girl living in a remote village, cut off from the rest of society. One day she discovers that one of her fellow villagers is possessed. She then learns that she has the gift to see those are possessed. When she tells her fellow villagers she is met with skepticism, especially from her boyfriend Robert. Later a mysterious outsider comes to offer help as an exorcist. Is he for real? Who is the source of all these possessions? Will Amy save the village? These are all questions that resolve in a satisfying conclusion. The film is well acted, and directed and does not take the source material in a cliché direction. All and all Amy is a great frightening tale, perfect for all fans of Gothic horror!

A fun possession film
Ackermana-675-6305666 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A great, fun way to spend an evening, especially if you enjoy horror movies. A story line mixing the insanity of demonic possession, and the trapped, isolated feelings of the Amish make for a fun, suspenseful experience.

The acting and special effects may leave people wanting more, but the script and plot will keep you wanting more. I have seen a lot of possession themed films, most being pretty non-original. Amy is different. The back drop of Amish life makes for a more stressful, chaotic, unpredictable film.

If you enjoy movies about possession, and exorcism like Carrie, or The Exorcist, this is for you!

A Fun Halloween Movie
Mrobinson86098 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Possession in a remote Amish community. That is what happens in the Indie horror film "Amy." A Young girl learns she has the ability to see fallen souls. The problem is that not only does her village not believe here, but her boyfriend Robert thinks she's foolish as well. As the film goes on she meets a mysterious outsider named Chris and she must work with him to cleanse her village of the possession. The film conveys the feeling of being alone. No one outside the village is ever seen and this helps convey Amy's feeling's of loneliness. Also the film has several surprises that will keep you guessing until the end. A great film for Halloween!

A fun tale of possession
Jjax8898 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of possession films so when I heard there was a film about an Amish girl being possessed I had to check it out. The premise is, a young girl Amy discovers that her village is fighting possession. Later on after befriending the mysterious outsider Chris she finds that she has become possessed as well. It is up to her to race against time and save her village before it is too late. I enjoyed watching Amy struggle with herself and her villagers disbelief. The young actress who plays her does a great job. Also there are some surprising twists. It turns out the possessor is her brother who was ousted for being gay. A topical and surprising twist.
