Phone sex as a movie
lor_29 November 2023
I don't know why Veronica Hart, arguably the best actress in Adult Cinema history, had her successful career as a producer and director abruptly end 15 years ago. I just added her 1996 feature "The Right Connection" to IMDb, an enjoyable experiment of a movie.

It's an odd approach to Adult Cinema - a movie about phone sex that one would associate with mainstream movies rather than porn. The two protagonists, sexy Kia as a phone sex girl and Vince Vouyer as a client who's day job is a still photographer in advertising, do not meet until the final reel. Their "romance" is over the phone, with both masturbating to the sound of each other's voice -Kia as paid sex worker in the phone-sex biz, and Vince narrating flashbacks or erotic fantasies he tells her (that are duly acted out in XXX vignettes).

Hart does a fine job in making this work, though it reminded me (unfortunately) of those awful porn videos made in 2021 when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, in which the sex scenes were literally phoned in -watching the talent masturbate at long distance. Back in 1996 Hart didn't have smartphones or Zoom, so the participants can't see each other -fine for adding a sense of mystery but defying the fact of movies being basically a visual medium.

Cutest gimmick here is that instead of the phone sex girls being cooped up in a Call Center located in some office building (or even offshore in Mumbai), beautiful Kia and her colleagues like Ariana and Felecia are lolling around a swimming pool in bikinis as they take the toll calls from horny customers.
