Long considered lost, THE ASSIGNATION was Curtis Harrington's first color film. It was shot in Venice, Italy, and follows a masked figure through the labyrinthine canals of the city, building to a spectacular climax.
A figure cloaked in black and wearing a white face mask is wandering around Venice. Carrying a single rose, the figure boards a gondola to make much of its journey through the canals of the city. The figure's ultimate meeting and the presentation of the rose will be a declaration of love of one kind in the meeting actually symbolizing death.—Huggo
