As in in years previous, the 15th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival honors a variety of actors and filmmakers as part of their highlighting of global cinema. This year’s opening gala honored legendary comedic actor Bill Murray, who was also in attendance to promote his recent film Rock the Kasbah, which was filmed in Morocco. The ceremony began with a brief speech from director Sofia Coppola, who extolled over Murray’s virtues as an uncanny comedic force and one of her close personal friends, having directed him in her monumental film Lost in Translation and, more recently, a Netflix Christmas special A Very Murray Christmas. The actor then took the stage and gave a heartfelt speech about his gratitude but also his heavy heart, sighting the recent tragedies in Paris and San Bernardino. This led to an empowering message of how the people around the world need...

Quick change! Although Gigi Hadid started out her day with her signature long, layered hairstyle, she ended it with a dramatically different look. On her way to a photo shoot for W on Nov. 12 in New York City, Hadid’s straightened blonde hair fell onto the statement collar of her Kempner coat. But when she left the shoot hours later, Hadid, 20, wore a short, curly hairstyle in a darker blonde color. The wig wasn’t the only souvenir she left with — the Maybelline brand ambassador ditched her [...]...

Halloween got into the winter spirit this weekend when Taylor Swift brought Idina Menzel onstage on Saturday to sing "Frozen" smash "Let It Go," complete with Olaf and Elsa costumes.
The moment happened during Swift's Halloween concert in Tampa, Florida, where she performed her "1989" tune "Style" dressed as the animated flick's goofy snowman. Shortly after, Menzel -- decked out in an ice blue replica of Elsa's signature gown -- joined the songstress on stage to belt out part of "Let It Go."

Everybody loves Bill Murray. Okay, maybe that's not 100% true, but there are days where it seems like it's true. Bill Murray is well aware of the way people feel about him, and over the course of his very strange career, he has taken full advantage of the latitude that people grant him because of the persona he has cultivated. Bill Murray has become something more than a comic lead, something bigger than a movie start, and arguably something more impressive and enduring than a legend. Bill Murray is an urban myth. Talk about transcending your corporeal form, man. We've all heard the Bill Murray stories, wild tales about the actor showing up at a party, staying till dawn, then doing all the dishes in the house before slipping out the back door without a goodbye, or tackling someone in the park before whispering to them, "No one will be believe you.

It is not too shabby in what the Northeast (New England) part of the United States has produced in terms of past and present actors/actresses making their show business dreams come true. Film careers can be a lot like ice cubes–they start out solid and cool but if you sit around in stagnation your efforts and hard work can melt away before one’s very eyes. Certainly no one can accuse this talented crop of thespians of being one-hit wonders on the big screen. After all, one does not become a recipient of an Academy Award by just sheer luck and charitable fortune.
As a native Bostonian and life long New Englander, I felt compelled to spotlight those Massachusetts-born and bred actors from the same region that had ultimate success on the big screen in winning the Oscar for their acting achievement and contribution to the motion picture industry.

Bill Murray became a movie star 35 years ago this week, upon the release of "Meatballs" on June 29, 1979. His lead role as the head counselor at a sub-par summer camp marked a number of firsts: his first of four movies with director Ivan Reitman (the others were "Stripes" and the two "Ghostbusters"), his first of six movies with writer Harold Ramis (the four Reitman films, plus "Caddyshack" and "Groundhog Day"), and his first taste of mega-stardom beyond his TV fame on "Saturday Night Live."
Since then, his career has taken on a trajectory unique in the history of film, one in which he's gone from comic goofball to dramatic thespian, from universally beloved to acquired taste, and from manic cynic to soft-spoken spiritual seeker. Through it all, however, there have been a few constants; no matter whether he's a grubby groundskeeper or a morose mogul: Murray's character is always the coolest...

Is it possible to make an independent film about young women in Brooklyn without comparison to Girls? It doesn’t appear so, and I’m not going to pretend I’m not guilty of doing so myself with the angle of this post. But I can’t respond to the unfortunate laziness to which we use Lena Dunham’s show as a reference point without as much. Now it’s not always just Girls; the acclaimed Frances Ha — itself initially likened to Girls — has joined the show as an easy measure and descriptor for any subsequent work focused on 20-something females in a certain part of New York City. It happened during Sundance with Obvious Child, and now ahead of its SXSW premiere, it’s already happening to Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers‘s Fort Tilden. Both films deserve better simply for the fact that they’re their own entities. Not...

They don't make funny movies any more, right? Wrong. If you're looking for a laugh, then here are some you may have missed...
For this list, blame The Hangover Part III. It was whilst walking out of that film that I got into a chat with someone, who was bemoaning the lack of genuinely funny movie comedies. Certainly, big budget Hollywood comedies have no end of problems right now - with the occasional exception - but I couldn't help thinking of the many neglected gems that had gone through my DVD player over the past decade or so.
As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

Hey! Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of white-knuckled GTA fans biting their nails in anticipation for tomorrow's launch of Rockstar's next big thing in their flagship Grand Theft Auto series? Yes? Then you're probably already dead set on a purchase and probably don't need any more convincing. It's grand time full of debauchery, chaotic chases, and maniacal mayhem and is definitely well worth the inevitable "sick day" you'll call in to get out of work for a full day of GTA this Tuesday. Likewise, gamers that have never loved these titles can rest assured that the fifth numbered entry is more of the same - albeit prettier and a bit more refined.
Once again returning to the fake-Californian city of Los Santos, gently nestled between the immense Pacific Ocean and imposing Rockies, is a city littered with opportunity - especially for those willing to grab it by any means necessary.

With the release of "Lost in Translation" ten years ago, everyone was finally forced to take Bill Murray seriously. Even the Academy finally noticed him and gave him a Best Actor nomination, the only one he's received so far.
By this time, he'd been paring down his craft for 30 years until, with the help of directors like "Translation"'s Sofia Coppola and "Rushmore"'s Wes Anderson, he'd achieved a kind of Zen purity. After that, he could choose to play the smartass clown (as in his early roles) or the serious thespian, or somewhere in between. With no agent and plenty of savings, he could pick and choose projects at whim and do only what he felt like doing. So even his lesser movies seemed like labors of love; after all, there must have been something personally appealing to him in those roles to coax him off the golf course.

Okay, yikes.
Sure, everyone can probably agree that Bill Murray is not your typical hunk of Hollywood man meat and he really never has been, but dayum is he still a surprisingly awkward kisser.
Just check out this supercut video (via Laughing Squid) of him making out with — more like slobbering on in some instances — a slew of poor girls his lady and sometimes male co-stars over the years. If you were harboring a hidden desire to lay a smacker on Mr. Stiff Lips, this two-minute mashup'll probably change your mind up a bit.
Let's just say it's a good thing Bill Murray's got exponentially more swagger in all the other acting departments because his lip-locking skills are a little less than par.
So, where does it seem to go so wrong? Well, in some cases, as with Sigourney Weaver in "Ghostbusters" and Andie MacDowell in "Groundhog Day," he's...

Dorina (Mimi Juareza) is a retired entertainer who now plies the streets offering her cheap, quick cosmetic fixes to other transgendered men. Lacking any medical experience, she is nonetheless "doc" to her grateful patients, whose faces are sculpted to look like the glittering faces of popular local celebrities.
