Nayab was inspired from various cricket girls in Karachi, Pakistan. Normally a male friendly game played in sub continent. It took director Umair Nasir Ali and the writers Ali Abbas Naqvi and Basit Naqvi three years and multiple drafts to compile these inspirations into screenplay.
Nayab was shot entirely on real and virgin locations which required months of preparation. Director of Photography Shajee Hasan has been garnering attention in the industry for his distinctive visual storytelling and inventive play with lighting, promising a fresh perspective in cinematography.
Most of the cricketing girls in the film are real cricket playing girls. Director Umair Nasir Ali urged the producers of the film to have real cricketers around Yumna Zaidi. All the girls had their first acting experience.
