I do not know the musical. But the film works fair, nice , in good sense, realistic in high measure, reminding the atmosphere of high school ( Catholic, off course ), the birth and evolution of relations, the way to be accepted - and not only accepted - the new guy , his integration in group and ...the romance.
The good point - maybe , especialy, the dialogue. Near acting. Near humor and the precise crafted tension.
I saw it as smart definition of youth in its essential traits and, I admitt, I liked Bare for something easy to define as honesty.
In short, a decent movie , not real surprises , good state.
