He led the Labour Party during the period 1992-2008 and served as Prime Minister of Malta during the period 1996-1998. Sant is also one of the most important Maltese literary voices of the second half of the 20th Century. He has published novels, short-stories, memoirs, critical essays and play scripts including: L-Ewwel Weraq tal-Bajtar (1968), Min hu Evelyn Costa? (1979), Bejgh u Xiri(1981), Silg fuq Kemmuna (1982), Qabel Tiftah l-Inkjesta (1999), La Bidu La Tmiem (2001), Confessions of a European Maltese (2003), Pupu fil-Bahar (2009), L-Ghalqa tal-Iskarjota (2009); translated into English as The Iscariot Field (2011) and Perspettivi/Perspectives (2012).—Anonymous
