Hugo lives alone in what was once his family home. Now he is surrounded by memories of the past and longs to move on and create a life of his own. Encouraged by his absent mother, Hugo invites his old university friends around for dinner- but it is three years on and everyone has a different agenda. 'If it is known exactly what is going to be done, why do it' (Picasso). To differing degrees, every art form begins with improvisation. Starting with a vague notion, the story emerged through working with actors to create back-stories and improvisations in order to investigate their characters. The film contains improvised dialog and the actors did not know the intentions of any character but their own.
