Average for modern Simpsons (but still great!)

I really wasn't expecting a death this season. But if they feel like killing off a character, may as well be a character that few people know about and isn't very major.

First of all, I'm never really a fan when they randomly put in a song about the subject. Typically it just doesn't work out very well. But the animation they did during the song was gorgeous.

I loved the scene where they were fighting in the hotel room as to where Larry is now. I loved all their ideas (But I was NOT expecting Homer to take the religious route!) and I love Moes reaction to the gems in the urn and everyone's reaction to finding out they were there!

I really wasn't expecting the trooper to arrest all four of them, and he just shoved him in the trunk (that was actually in the front!) and I also really wasn't expecting him to be affiliated with the Mafia.

Larry "saving" Homer shocked me! And where the waterfall actually was made me happy because everyone could connect at their favorite place.

I guess it's just your typical modern Simpsons episode. Not one of the best episodes of all time, but like most Simpsons episodes, they are solid.

Some food for thought, but lacking in key areas

So the episode is certainly not even close to being among the worst, but there are some choices made that makes me question the dedication behind the writing process. In the very early days Barney seemed to be one of the only ones (though in background) that engaged with Larry. Not the biggest thing ever.. But the bar-fly only had some many background or supporting role "scenes" that the Barney relations seemed like a really strange connection to emit.

The music segment was well put together, kudos to the composer and writer(s). The latter were probably the heaviest hitter in terms of quality through this episode. Not sure if I am just becoming a boomer along with the show, but I feel the show keeps lacking heart from the origins of the writers room.. Some of the writers are definitely fighting an uphill battle here..

I realize that the majority of this review might be seen as critical or negative, but certain members of the production made this a 7. Which members? I don't know for sure, but I feel the writers got saved on this one.

See you Larry.

How far the Simpsons has fallen
normanwallies24 April 2024
The Simpsons is a big part of my childhood but this episode has showed that it is missing the magic that the earlier seasons had(and still has on rewatching). Characters and stories that are no longer easy to be lose yourself in and just a series of half-hearted catchphrases and situations.

I don't know if it's the writing, or the fact that enough people involved with this are now just happy for the show to just be mediocre, but it is a real disappointment to see what it has become.

Lazy, bland dialogue, forced humor and replacing well known and much loved voices - the Simpsons is no longer special.
