- A Gift of Life is set in the modern day, where a contagious virus ravages the world. A young girl named Jatta, already struggling with cancer and a lonely existence, contracts this deadly virus. Admitted to a hospital, she witnesses the horrors of the virus firsthand as people around her succumb to its effects daily. Isolated and losing hope, Jatta's condition deteriorates as she resigns herself to her fate.
One day, a boy named Morris is admitted to the bed next to hers, separated by a glass wall. Initially indifferent due to the recent horrors she experienced. Jatta slowly opens up to Morris as he consistently reaches out to her. They form a deep bond and eventually fall in love, offering each other comfort amidst the chaos.
As Jatta's health improves and she recovers from the virus, she faces a grim reality: her cancer has worsened, leaving her with limited time. She struggles to convey her mixed emotions of joy and sorrow to Morris, fearing how it will affect him. During an emotional conversation, she admits her love for him but reveals she is dying. Morris, despite his own deteriorating health, reassures her and wishes her the best, trying to alleviate her guilt.
The stress of their conversation overwhelms Jatta, causing her to faint. When she wakes up, she learns she has received a heart transplant from a donor, which miraculously cures her cancer. Discharged from the hospital, she hears nothing from Morris until one day she receives a letter with a nostalgic message from him. Inside is a CD with a video recording from Morris, explaining that he donated his heart to her. He reveals that the virus had irreparably damaged his brain, leaving him with only a week to live. Overcome with emotion, Jatta breaks down as she realizes the depth of Morris's love and sacrifice. The story concludes with this poignant, heart-wrenching revelation, marking the end of their tragic love story.
