I've gotta be honest, with that cold open, I'd expected a series of "The Karate Kid" jokes; y'know, maybe waxing on and off with an actual car). But that was restrained to a crane kick at the very end.
No, this is about Beverly's "mom goggles" vs. Murray's pleas to get her to accept the family' mediocrity . . . and their kids who want nothing to do with the talent show. If there's an MVP here, it's Tim Meadows as a worn-out high school teacher who couldn't give a rip about any of it.
There was a good deal of laughs in this one, and some great back-and- forth between the characters.
7/10
