Not My Type of Horror, but You Might Enjoy it.
chrismackey197213 May 2015
OMG! I rooted for the badguy, even though he was stupid. However, the kids were dumber than most I've seen in horror films.

Yes, this was low-budget. I have to say they had good kills, if that's your thing.

Kirsty was the most annoying character. She was mean from the start and rather confrontational for no reason. When they got up the next morning and Mark and Jessica were missing, it was like a scene was missing.

When the killer had three of the kids in his lair, I thought it was weird. He killed anyone else in the woods where he found them, but he decides to knock out the kids, drag them all the way back to his place for some ritualistic torture. It wasn't consistent with the other kills.

If you're bored, and you want something to watch, maybe you might enjoy this. I do not recommend, because it almost put me to sleep (no joke).

BTW, the people who died deserved it for their stupidity.

I gave this a 4-star rating. It would've been lower, but I could tell they did try to put together a fun movie, and I think effort counts.

Axe swinging and syrup splashing montage
quincytheodore15 May 2015
The title pretty much tells the story, there are some killings in the wood and that's pretty much it. This so called massacre is presented by the antagonist whose blows are powerful enough to make a fountain of blood from any victim he meets. While hemorrhaging is no joke, it seems everyone has tendency to squirt liters of blood from the slightest touch. The excessively low budget gore is occasionally creepy, but mostly ironically ridiculous. Nevertheless, it has at least a little entertainment value.

A group of people go to a forest and meet with gruesome fate. Honestly, no one in the group is even remotely likable. Either they suddenly encounter the threat and proceed to usual frantic screaming, or the movie invests too much time on shallow characters. One particular female is so hostile, her entire dialogues consist of argument. This is very bizarre, especially when she still argues in the moments where her survival is at stake. At some points I thought she might just debate with the villain.

Other characters are overzealous, lacking logic or too meek. None of them feel as though they are genuinely facing authentic dangerous scenario with the villain gradually approaching. Scenes are poorly done, mainly because the editing is choppy. Almost the entire time the characters are shown standing randomly and awkwardly delivering the lines. Furthermore, it feels the screenplay misses a couple of scenes or lacking consistency, but audience probably wouldn't lose much anyway.

The effect is laughably over-the-top. Expect too much cheap blood spewed on the screen. It really doesn't matter what the cause is, these people will bleed. It only takes a simple jab and one of them starts to vomit blood until their hair and clothes are covered with it. This silly execution might just serendipitously work in in their favor as comedy effect.

The Redwood Massacre is unoriginal and shallow, even to the point of unintentionally funny, but the rigid slasher premise or silly antic might just deliver a few chuckles.

Kind of boring, something is missing
Finfrosk861 June 2015
A lot is done right here, the kills are alright. The killer is actually pretty cool. There is a lot of blood. But the whole time something is missing. The killer looks pretty cool, but at the same time he is kind of boring.

I caught myself wondering why I wasn't more entertained by this, because it should have been more entertaining. It had the necessities. It has large amounts of blood, which I like, the problem is it just looks like someone is pouring blood on whoever gets killed. Didn't have the impact it should.

One thing that was real bad was the punching-sounds. For the most part the sound design was OK, but in a couple of scenes the killer is beating the crap out of someone, blood is just gushing, and the sound of the hits are like, *tsh* *tsh* *tsh*. That doesn't fly. You need some bass, and some good crunch in there, for a big fist hitting a face repeatedly like that. Strange how the director was just fine with that.

And it is so light for most of the movie. Like daytime. Not scary or tense at all.

Anyway, this is probably not worth your time, I'm afraid. There are a lot of good slashers out there. Maybe skip this one.

Wow this is bad!
ScottM275314 May 2015
This movie was truly awful. It's a try by the creators to make a Friday the 13th style slasher, but it fails miserably.

The makeup effects for the killing scenes were actually quite good, but if that is the only good thing out of this movie, then it falls completely flat on its face. IF the creators had spent a bit more time on this, planning out the script, more rehearsals for the actors, it might have been better.

The acting... well, honestly there wasn't any. TRULY stupid decisions were made by the actors in this movie, making it almost a joy to see them done in lol. Do yourself a favor and give this one a pass. All the "great" reviews I've seen on this one obviously came from friends/family of the crew/actors.

The movie was awful, but the worst part is how long the ending dragged on.
XXXLUVISRAGEXXX18 February 2019
The movie was not good at all. Acting was mediocre, plot was barely existent, and there was no depth to any of the characters. Now usually I can let a not great plot slip if there's enough bloodshed, and don't get me wrong there is a lot of that in this movie, but it was just so cookie cutter. There was nothing new or different or middle entertaining. It was just the same old copy paste "Guy with mask goes around a forest stabbing people" and it just felt like nobody put any effort into any aspect of the movie. The ending was the worst part though, because it just kept dragging on. The last 30 minutes (and the movie is only 1 hour 22 minutes) is just you thinking its over but nope it isn't because of some stupid uninteresting irrelevant thing that either doesn't make sense, or is just plain boring. It had its moments if you're like me and you like slashers, but it was just so cookie cutter, so boring, so predictable, so unentertaining. There are no scares in this movie at all. I don't even remember if they tried to put in a jump scare, I was so bored I just really didn't care.

If you like bad, this is the one for you.

Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, I haven't read any reviews before watching this thing, shame I haven't. This movie is complete junk, there's no horror in it, the gore is bad and is only slightly better then the lame text.

Now lets start, the movie doesn't bring anything new to the screen, it follow a pattern of other movies like it. Friends going to the wood, gets killed, end of story. However, other movies following this pattern might bring better effects, better dialogue and much better actors. You can pretty much see this movie is junk right at the start when you hear the sound of the knife and few seconds later, the axe, is the same sound. So they took the same audio file and just copy & paste it every time, they didn't bothered to even slightly change the pitch, speed or EQ (something that can be done in almost every free audio software out there) yes, it's that bad.

As I said the dialogues offers nothing new, and the players reading them are just MEH. All monotonic, without highs and lows, all in the same pace one word after the other.

Now lets see some more. In the part when they all sit around the fire and someone tells the story, how can someone screw in this one? I have no idea, they might sit next to the fire, but there's no read evidence for that, the light source is not the fire, or the moon (which supposed to be full) but from external light source, just normal light bulb from the set, dear director, how high were you when filming this one?

Still, I watched it to the end, I actually thought it might bring something in the end, but no. Just the big old disappointment. One last thing, one of the characters had fake eyebrows (painted, or what ever they ladies call it) it was ugly, ugly ugly ugly. Even with that the crew screwed up.

So really, do yourself a favor, don't watch, don't think I might get better at the end, they dialogue is not getting better, the gore is not getting better, the and characters are not evolving and the killer will still be super lame version of Jason Voorhees.

Dismal Scottish take on Friday the 13th
s327616913 May 2015
The Redwood Massacre is a Scottish take on the Friday the 13th series of movies. Regrettably this horror flick does not live up to expectations, its a truly dismal affair, that could have succeeded with more careful handling.

This film would have worked much better without the grotesque and unnecessarily gratuitous use of violence. It would have benefited too, from gradually ratcheting up the tension, before introducing the serial killer. Indeed, putting aside the gore factor, the chief reason why this film is such a flop, is it lacks the "jump in your seat factor", found in its US counterpart.

The acting from this films cast does it no favours either. Its not bad as such, its just rather flat. Indeed, the main characters seem bored by the whole affair. Its almost a relief when some of them get bumped off.

All in all, the idea behind this film is a good one, that taps into a well established horror genre. The story's not terrible, nor is the setting. Sadly, everything else is. Three out of ten from me.

Warning: Spoilers
*******SPOILER ALERT - THIS FILM IS SH*TE*******

I must admit that I thought I might rather enjoy this movie when it started - given the hammy acting, loud eerie music over every scene and desperate lack of anything you could conceivably call a plot, I thought this might be a decent parody. Believe it or not, this isn't a parody.

Quick summary of the 'plot' - a whole bunch of Scottish people get chibbed in the woods by - wooo, spooky! - some c*nt with a sack on his head. At no point is any attempt made to discuss or uncover this individual's motivation, what drives him to kill, or why he has a cock in a jar back at his murder shack - unless you count the brief mention that he's an "evil farmer" (of course!).

If you want a chuckle, skip to the laughably absurd storytelling scene where we see a flashback to Jethro butchering his surprisingly obliging family - a particularly awful piece of acting that makes "Xena the Warrior Princess" look as real as "The Wire", and yet another reason why the whole film should have been made a comedy. In my opinion a great opportunity was missed by not including the line "Can I Axe you a question?".

As it stands, the only way anyone could see this absolute dross as any kind of achievement is if it was done for a school project. In fact, I strongly suspect that the individual who rated this 10/10 may in fact be the directors mum. Please, stop deluding yourselves that "British film" has to mean "crap film". Watch the b*llocks origin story for a laugh then turn this off and get on with your life.

If you thought the acting in your school drama class was a real cultural experience and your enjoy gallons of red paint and plot holes the size of the ginger chick's eyebrows, then this is for you.

THAT'S JUST A STORY THEY TELL CHILDREN
nogodnomasters30 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
On the 20th anniversary of the Redwood massacre, 5 young adults opt to visit the farmhouse, located in Scotland. Mark (Adam Coutts) is with his new annoying girlfriend (Lisa Livingstone) who loathes the wilderness as well as being with Mark's catty ex-girlfriend (Rebecca Wilkie).

This is another slasher film with a killer who apparently resurrects like Jason, wears a burlap mask like the Texarkana Killer, and eats his victims alive like Hannibal. Pardon my feeling of Deja Vu while watching this slasher which does not distinguish itself either in the plot, acting, dialogue or characters.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Plenty of blood.

Watch at you peril!
freedom-from-sanity17 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I try to applaud low budget film making as it's not easy to get a movie off the ground, hence I decided to give this movie a shot. But low budget doesn't mean it has to defy logic and lack any, even half, decently written characters.

Fo starters I am a big fan of old horrors that used light and shadow to build up tension and dread in every scene (the original Cat People being a great example of this) But this was made in 2014 not 1942, and this is in colour. The low lighting in the opening, woodland scene, might create great shadows but it looks totally unrealistic and distracting in a modern colour film.

Then there's the killer! He kills everyone with either a large knife, machete or axe. Thats it. He's a slasher, nothing fancy about him. So why oh why, when he has the girl with the crazy painted eyebrows tied down, does he look at some of his tools like he's decided with which one to make the first incision. He's a slasher not one of life's more sophisticated killers. But, before he does this, he toys with her with a pair of shears then just cuts open her shirt. That's it. He puts the shears down, looks at a few tools then stabs her like he does every other victim. The guy is a serial killer equivalent of a simpleton. He would no more think about what knife to use as he would what finger to use to scratch his bum.

The guy with the gun baffled all logic as well. He has a shot gun, he's holding the door closed preventing the killer from getting in. So what does he do? He gives the gun to a girl and tells her to run while he holds the door. WHAT THE HELL!!! Just let the killer in and shoot him! This level of stupidity may have been excusable in the 70s and 80s but not now. The audience has moved on.

Then there's the ending! A girl escapes and runs into a guy driving a van. We see them drive off across the highlands of Scotland (not a tree in sight) In the next scene its dark, the driver claims he has taken a wrong turning, and they are back in the woods?! How the hell this has happened I don't know as its not exactly teeming with roads in the Scottish Highlands. Follow a road long enough and you'll come to a village. This is Scotland not the back woods of America. But guess what, they just happened to end up back where the killer is!! Next (and this is the best part) she runs away and ends up...... Wait for it....... In a scrap yard!!!!! How the Flip did that happen. One minute its the bare but beautiful Scotish Highlands, then its woodland but now (all of a sudden) she's surrounded by scrap cars! Now I know that in movies they often play with geography in order keep the movie flowing (how often have we seen car chases move from one street to another that we know is actually miles from the first) but we can forgive this in the narrative and locale of the film. But moving from Barren hills and occasional woodland to the middle of a scrap yard is just plain dumb. As I have said before, this is Scotland NOT America.

Unfortunately, I think the makers of this mess thought it was.

Beware, Evil Highlander at Play!
FatalFollower8 June 2015
I recently checked this one out, because not only was the poster aesthetically pleasing to a slasher fan like myself, but I am a sucker for the "scarecrow/burlap" masked loons. I really enjoyed this one, it seemed to have a "timeless" vibe that could have easily set it in the 80', this movie works as a throwback without hyping itself up over the idea of being a "throwback. The acting is good and the kills are even better. The cinematography alone showcases the reason to visit the Scottish countryside, amazing shots of the dense forests and surrounding areas.

I read some reviews and people seemed to be expecting something from a slasher movie that slasher movies are not known for---> Oscar caliber acting? Oscar winning screenplay? No, you will not have that here, it is called The Redwood Massacre, and you get A BLOODY MASSACRE! I read the slasher, who is billed as "Evil Highlander" has his own toy and will be featured in a comic book as a cameo, I say bring it on!

Easily one of the better modern slasher movies, iconic villain with a campfire story origin...it works!

Lots of blood, not much of a plot; I enjoyed it, don't know about others
timelesswind2 June 2015
Firstly, I have to say that I had a great time watching this movie but that's probably because I love those kinds of movies. The Redwood Massacre is a (really) low budget film with lots and lots of blood and features a serial killer hunting down a group of campers. Its plot is just that simple.

Lets start with the good points of the film, and at this point I have to say that I just loved the scenery shown in the movie as well as the inside of the Redwood house. They were really great and the costumes were well-made too. I also liked the variety of the murder scenes and the variety of weapons-tools the killer used. There was a lot action and killings throughout the film so in that aspect you won't easily get bored.

On the other hand, The Redwood Massacre has lots of flaws too. Most of the cast are doing a mediocre job at best but that can't be helped because of the low budget. I enjoyed the death scenes a lot but some of them weren't that well-thought and they really overdid it with the blood. So even though the death scenes are visually enjoyable and bloody(if you like that style) some of them seem unnatural. Also, the quality of the movie drastically drops after the one hour mark. The last 30 minutes of the movie are nowhere as good as the rest of it. Last but not least, in this movie you will find one of the most unnecessary and stupid side-characters found in a movie ever(I won't spoil details so just watch it and see for yourself).

I will give this movie a 6 because I myself liked it and as an appreciation of the effort made in a low budget movie but an objective review would be lower. My advice; watch it if you like bloody slashers but don't expect much of a plot or something "new" or avoid it if you prefer more serious horror films, you won't find that here.

Ending killed the movie it just dragged on
KoolCatReviews26 January 2021
This movie certainly isn't the worst you'll see in the horror genre. Poor opening titles doesn't set the movie up well but it does have it moments. The special effects are way over the top but in alot of instants its done well. It is pretty much an all out gore fest and doesn't really have much plot to it. My main gripe with movie was just how long the ending dragged on for, this realy killed the movie.

Farmers...
FlashCallahan24 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For five friends, visiting the murder site of the Redwood House has all the hallmarks of being an exciting weekend away.

A popular site, each year, on the exact date of the famous local family massacre, people head out to the site to have fun and scare each other.

Events take a turn for the worse when the innocent campers discover the Redwood legend is in fact a reality, which turns the unsuspecting victims into prey for an axe wielding maniac that has remained dormant for 20 years......

Apart from the terrible acting from the majority of the cast, and some truly awful sound design, the main problem with this film is it's reliance on other better horror movies.

Firstly, the killer is based on Leatherface, from his gait to the way he closes a door, you yearn for that classic, rather than waiting for this behemoth to kill the group, and i promise, you will have an air of satisfaction when he finally begins his purge.

Secondly, some genius decided to include a variation on Ki Ki Ki, Ma Ma Ma, from Friday the 13th, and again, you are yearning for Jason to pass by, and give the killer a few tips.

Another problem is the group of friends. They are unlikable, one very deplorable, and at times you are egging the cast on to tell her to shut up, or give her a healthy slap across the face.

Even at it's very slim running time, it's an ordeal to get through, the legend of the place is pretty hilarious, and one wonders just how long a particular side character has been hanging around for.

I'm a huge horror fan, particularly slasher movies, but this was very difficult to finish, even when its being unintentionally hilarious.

A legit modern slasher flick; nothing to it.
gabriel_sanchez28 July 2015
The Redwood Massacre is an attempt on doing a slasher movie with some urban legend attached to it. Although, it's important to remember that this is a B movie.

Given that, it's obvious that the acting isn't great; in fact, it's terrible. Though some emotions got pictured rather good, some dialogs seemed so emotionless, as if the actors were college students trying to present a seminary. It's comparable to the acting on "Birdemic: Shock and Terror" (yep, it's that bad...)!

All the clichés are here: an urban legend that happens to be real, a psychopath, bloodlust, characters that are dumb as a door, gore, characters that go straight to the slaughterhouse; it's all here!

Credibility in this movie sucks! Though, it's understandable: things aren't that "entertaining" in real life. What I mean is that the main characters on this types of genre never try to get help of any kind, like calling the police or something; but that's the mark of an horror-slasher flick. I can bear that.

However, some flaws are noticeable. Some major flaws, actually. If you're that type of person who watches a movie and goes full critic on it, you'll see what I mean. (Some credibility mistakes can't be overlooked.).

Plot was nothing special and I felt it was fine, until the very ending. I mean, what more to expect: it's about a murderer who murders. There's nothing to it. Though, to me, they could've developed a better backstory to the main villain. It seemed unthought and kinda mediocre.

Also, I didn't like that the villain's personality changed throughout the movie. That's kinda bad and ruins credibility (and the movie) for me. It delivers that feeling that the story isn't flowing "naturaly", that it's being manipulated to the taste of some "sick f***" writer.

After the plot twist, I felt that the storyline got kinda rushed.

The ending was fine, by its standards, but what's up with one event that happens there? To me, that one fact ruined the movie's ending! It felt as an excuse, an unexplained, unadvised, unthought, excuse! I was in shock when I saw where things were going. Geez!

Besides, Kirsty's personality is hateful! I needed to clear that out!

Effects were fine, but the blood's color was way too dark. Overall, this movie delivers the same thing as every slasher flick nowadays.

Yes it never is a good idea to go to an either haunted place or a house/farm in the woods, where a massacre occurred. No matter how many years have passed (either the children have "survived" or something else) it will be the ... death of you. Literally. But of course that is standard movie/horror cliché and if the people wouldn't do something stupid like that, we wouldn't have a movie.

And before you argue that it would be a good thing, consider that other people like this sort of movies. And the blood effects are decent enough for a low budget movie like this. Is there really more some would want out of that experience? If so, then maybe this isn't for you

Bloody, extreme bloody ... but unfortunately not very original
peterp-450-29871621 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing I'll remember from this movie are the most ridiculous and bizarre eyebrows on the forehead of a member of the group who are doomed to be slashed. As for the rest, "The Redwood Massacre" is a slasher film that adds nothing new to the slasher genre. The 80's were the era of gory slasher films with of course "Halloween", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday the 13th". Jason Voorhees hid his face behind a hockey mask. Michael Myers used a white mask. Leatherface used the skin of his victims. In this film the Scottish bloodthirsty killer came up with the brilliant idea to use a potato sack. Is this killer the crazy farmer who massacred his family? Or is it the buried and after wards missing farmer's son? That's not entirely clear. And you shouldn't expect a statement from the wildly chopping killer, because throughout the whole movie, no sensible word comes out of his mouth.

I know slasher movies aren't famous for their sophisticated story lines (although the first Friday the 13th was a bit more than just simply slaughtering teenagers) and Oscar worthy performances. Ultimately, the starting point of such films is showing disgusting, sickeningly images such as cutting up unfortunate, innocent campers. Liters of blood flowing at that time is a logical consequence. In "The Redwood Massacre" they probably received remains of blood from other slasher films because the way blood is gushing here, you won't see anywhere else in your lifetime. So excessive, that it gets downright ridiculous. A hefty punch already ensures gushes of blood splashing in all directions, as if a number of main arteries are being sliced. A firm nosebleed results in blood-soaked clothes and hair. As if, just like in "Carrie", a bucket of pig's blood is thrown on them.

Among the group of youngsters once again the same characters occur. Obviously, there's a spoiled bitch (Lisa Livingstone as Kirsty) who actually does nothing but complain all the time and clearly didn't want to participate in this venture. It amazed me that she didn't start to discuss with the serial killer about the fact that he probably used the wrong laundry detergent, since there are still bloodstains visible on his lumberjack shirt. Then there's the characterless masculine part. Their only function is being part of the company and being transported to the slaughterhouse. There's also the party-girl Rebecca (Rebecca Wilkie) who, as I mentioned earlier, only stands out because of her ridiculous eyebrows. And finally there's Pamela (Lisa Cameron). Perhaps the most down-to-earth member of the whole group and waiting for her boyfriend. The latter apparently got lost and wanders through the woods. Getting lost is apparently a habit in those Scottish forests, because the so-called party in the ruins of Redwood turns out to be rather lifeless without the other party-goers . Also lost? Or worse?

The pace of this brutal slasher is damn high. The opening scene immediately shows a horrific murder. The sadistic brute is revealed in closeup the first moment. I guess the writers decided not to be too mysterious about that. And before you know it a couple camping somewhere in the woods, a lost mountain biker and two members of the group disappear and are being chopped into pieces. The massacres are brutal, gory, sadistic and sickening. What do you expect from a straight-in-your-face slasher?

And yet this film isn't exactly excellent. The dialogs are totally ridiculous. The characters are highly irritating and extremely stupid. Eventually they deserve to end like filet Americain. The bloody scenes are excessively bloody. At times it seemed as if it was engine oil dripping from the victims. Stupidities pass the whole time. The bloodthirsty killer could hear the slightest sound. But two people talking to each other was beyond his hearing spectrum. Certain developments seemed utter stupid like for instance the disappearance of two group members overnight. This was so abruptly and without explanation. As if they forgot to include it in the film. The history of the serial killer remained vague. And finally, there was also a completely useless character in the form of the father of a murdered teenager. His contribution to the whole was banal and his reaction to Pamela was bizarre. And how the hell can you drive in circles when there's only one straight road through the landscape? Can someone explain that to me? But most of all there's the fact the movie is so uninspired. When you intend to make another slasher movie, please include something new or original. This was just another colorless hack and slash horror. But for lovers of gory movies, this surely is a must see.

The Redwood Massacre
a_baron6 July 2017
If you go down to the woods today, you'll get the distinct feeling you've been to this particular one before. Redwoods grow in California, but this Redwood is not a tree, rather it is a house in the highlands of Scotland, unless American actors have peculiar accents nowadays. You guessed it, a mixed group of youngsters chased by a masked fiend. Films of this nature have also been made in Australia; doubtless they could be made in Africa, China and many other places too, but instead of exporting it to the rest of the world it would be best to admit this is a genre that has been played out one time too many and then some, and is a long way past its sell by date.

As you might expect there is no real plot, although there is a legend of sorts. If it scores one point for the music and one for the special effects, two sounds too much. The ending is too stupid to comment on. If you have anything more productive to do for the rest of your life, don't watch this rubbish.

I will say this immediately and without reservation, this movie is an absolute joy of a slashing gore-fest.
stuartandrew8617 September 2014
There is no attempt here to add any political or social commentary on today's society and the young people within it. Nor does it have any pretensions of intricate or philosophical dialogue between the cast, and that isn't meant as a criticism because what we have here with The Redwood Massacre is a chilling authentic old fashioned slasher horror with multiple violent deaths and gallons ( and I mean oodles of gallons) of blood and gore.

The dialogue is crisp, the acting is better than some indie standard fare and the films pace is first class.

It has to be said that a film shot in the North East of Scotland couldn't really help but look good, after all, this part of the world is most definitely gods own. That being said, this is a movie that is wonderfully shot. The camera-work is truly stunning, not just in the outdoor sequences but in the dim and claustrophobic interior scenes which add an intense layer of added terror. The colours and textures of the film are a feast for the eyes. Besides looking good, it all sounds great with a beautifully evocative soundtrack score by Leah Kardos that adds the perfect level of atmospheric chills to the overall experience.

Most importantly, we have a genuinely chilling slasher murderer who essentially ticks all the boxes for what makes a good genre killer. He is a killing machine that seems to take a very special pride in using a variety of grotesque and imaginative methods of killing, gutting and disemboweling his victims, and then saving the various body parts for, well, who knows what? He's a brilliant character who may not say much, but his actions speak far louder than any words could, after all, he's not much for conversation - well except for the odd guttural scream or two from his victims in response to the thrusting of his hands into ones chest to pull out ones still beating heart.....Honest to god, I would love to know how many gallons of blood and gore had to be ordered to make the incredibly authentic effects......that is, if they are actually effects......

A Fun, Gory Slasher for the modern age.
rblagg2221 May 2015
This film is seriously a fun gory film for the modern age. If you are a fan of gory slasher films, then this one is definitely for you. Being a fan of the sub-genre, I personally love this film. And another reason why this film is actually really good is the actors and actresses! They were ACTUALLY GOOD!!! I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it. And the kills in the film were extremely graphic and shocked me with every death. It gives the feeling of the modern gorefest films like Frontiers and High Tension (Which I love and I love that I an add this one to the list of awesome gory films!) I give this film *********/10 (9/10 stars) It's just a film that you need to go in with an open mind and just have fun with it!!

The Redwood Massacre
parry_na23 June 2017
Based on a horrifying true story, the promotional material tells us. A slasher film set in Scotland where a group of friends are commemorating the legendary Redwood Massacre by camping out in the locations of the murders. As you might imagine, the Scottish locations are gorgeous, a real highlight of the film.

This is a very enjoyable, fast-moving directing/writing horror film from David Ryan Keith who has rightfully won a series of awards. Ryan has made a run of genre films, including 2020's sequel, 'Redwood Massacre: Annihilation' (which I fully intend to see). Ghostly apparitions, missing bodies, well-drawn characters you actually care about, and most impressively a killer scarecrow. Scarecrows seem tailor-made for horror films - lonesome, soulless mannequins who stand in solitary splendour - but are often used so ineffectively. Luckily that isn't the case here. My score is 8 out of 10.

Well if you can't do original... Steal someone else's work!
abowen-647003 September 2015
This is a complete rip off of a Psycho Holocaust (2009)!! Far too many similarities... including the prowess and demeanor of the characters. In the movie making biz, movies come from a novel, comic, re-make or old TV show... There are so very few originals out there. The last bastion of hope is to copy/steal others ideas in order to make their own. Psycho Holocaust wasn't an award winner, but it was Original based off of horror genre from the 70's/80's. And to steal it's likeness, story, character and feel of what was created is THEFT... If the idea was taken from a big budget Hollywood cut, there would be massive lawsuits.

In Short, I see no reason to see this film, as I've already seen the Original!

Had so much potential but it all fell flat
destroyerwod27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie last night as part of my Halloween 2019 October program and honestly i saw a lot of potential with it but sadly it turned out not that good. Ill try to keep the first part spoiler free and will announce when spoilers start.

What did i liked about it? The murders themselves are violent, bloody, they don't try to "hide" anything for censorship or such. At times some things where a bit too over the top/badly done like at one point a character get punch in the face , the face is full of blood everywhere but once the character recover, you see no bruises or swelling. With that much blood the person would had been concussed and the face destroyed. But overall i liked how violent the movie was. The killer himself looks pretty dope, menacing, with good poses that mimmick a lot Jason. It seem to have pretty good production value/effects for such an indy flick.

The set up of the movie is mostly daytime, but lots of it happens inside and the environements are creepy so it work fine.

What i didn't liked? You barely get to know the characters or relate to them at all. Some decisions/story part make NO SENSE.

As for the acting, i won't comment on it too much, as i am not used much to the accents used in this movie. Scottish i think? I was glad to have subtitles enable to say the least.

SPOILERS AHEAD

So the movie really go the Jason route in its set up, not only the killer mimick him a lot but the backstory is announced around a campfire. I really enjoyed that the murders are bloody and the killer take his time with them, but the problem is, one of the characters get snatched right away before he even meet the rest, and 2 of them are taken away very fast. They barely ever meet again after that. You have a feeling of not caring much for them. Only the final girl, Pamela, is somewhat likable.

But where it truly hurt is when characters made stupid decisions, like at one point the killer rush one of the dude who does not even try to defend himself, or that father who goes at the house to avenge the murder of his daughter, but end up giving his shotgun to the main character for no reason, and then stay right in front of the killer and don't even put up a fight. Not to mention if i was going to take down my daughter's murderer in such a creepy place, i would had packed more than a double barrel shotgun with no extra ammo... I would had took a handgun, big knife, many ammo mags...

Its established the killer is human, not supernatural from what i could gather, so he can be hurted, so why are they just staying there to get butchered?

All these flaws prevented me from enjoying the movie. I never watch slasher flicks to see intelligent characters but when they just stand there to get killed without even putting a fight, not even trying, especially the father wich he has the killer of his daughter in front of him, he should had fough to the last inch of his life.. Its too bad cause it had potential and overall good production value for sunch an indy flick.

But i can't really recommand.
