Few genres of television capture the magic of teenage romance quite like K-dramas. Between sweet and innocent crushes, intense love triangles and the emotional drama that comes with balancing high school and a semblance of a social life, many K-dramas expertly mix relatability and nostalgia with the right amount of melodrama and fantasy. That’s probably why teen dramas like Love Alarm, Boys Over Flowers and Inheritors have become undeniable fan favorites over the years.
But lately, Korean storytellers have been crafting a wider variety of romantic dramas that diverge from the typical shows that K-drama aficionados are used to, with steamier rom-coms, unconventional love stories, and workplace and slice-of-life tales, as well as realistic portrayals of modern dating — especially later in life.
Here’s a curated list of popular romantic K-dramas that are specifically geared toward those in their 20s and beyond.

Song portrays a woman who was bullied at school, but who has carefully nurtured her grudges deep into adulthood. Her schemes for revenge against the perpetrators include exposing and turning the daily life of one of her newly-married classmates into a constant nightmare.
The show is directed by An Gil-ho and written by Kim Eun-sook, whose previous credits include the gentler “Heirs” and the Song-starring hit romantic drama “Descendants of the Sun.” “There is no logic behind Yeon-jin’s evil-doing, nor any romanticization of her actions,” said Kim in supplied quotes. “I want ‘The Glory’ to be remembered like a breath-taking sword dance.”

Almost exactly one year after Korean drama streaming hub DramaFever was shuttered, 19 of its series will become available once again on streaming service Viki.
Viki, which launched in 2007, has a library of more than 1,000 Asian dramas and movies that viewers can watch for free, if they’re also willing to watch ads -- or for $4.17 per month ad-free. It’s bringing on more than 50 shows, including Heirs, the very first series DramaFever co-produced, thanks to new licensing deals with South Korean production companies Cj, Enm, and Jtbc, Variety reports.
DramaFever was one of several services shut down almost immediately after AT&T acquired Time Warner and formed new media entity WarnerMedia. At the time, Warner Bros. said the shutdown was due to “business reasons and in light of the rapidly changing marketplace for K-drama content.”
