Snow Pirates takes place in Kars, a city inhabited by people from many different cultural backgrounds. It tells the story of a group of children's struggle simply to keep warm. In the shadow of the military coup in 1980, these children aged 12-13, playing their childish games soon arrive at an understanding of life's responsibilities and are hastily introduced into the world of the grownups. On the thin line between the good and the bad, right and wrong, past and future; Serhat, Gurbuz and Ibo embark innocently on a struggle they find just. That winter finding coal is an issue every household has in common in the poor neighbourhood. For the children returning from play after school, their houses are no different than the freezing cold outside. Despite queuing up in front of the coal depot every morning together with grownups, they return empty handed. The coincidental remedy for this destitution is also an opportunity that spurs the children's dreams of heroism: The debris of burnt coal, clinker... From here on, before the city is awake, they will collect clinker from the rear garden of the state hospital. The houses have start warming up. While the children are the beloved of their mothers', coal is something that troubles everyone. The resources are fairly limited. A group of other kids have decide to take over all the clinker, our heroes decide, in response, to defend their dignity till the end... Using their wit and determination, Serhat, Gurbuz and Ibo will find new resources, but without realising their step over the thin line that divides 'innocence' from 'crime'. The end of what starts as an innocent game of hunting after a few pieces of clinker for the stove, will also be the end of their future...—Anonymous
