In a malpractice trial, i.e., any civil litigation, the opposing sides are the Plaintiff, or one bringing the suit, and the Defendant, e.g., a Doctor. Therefore, the correct line should have been, "The Plaintiff rests" and not "The Prosecution rests" as was scripted. Also, the Defendant is found liable or not liable, not "guilty or not guilty".
The plaintiff's attorney rests after direct examination of the plaintiff. After direct examination, the defense is allowed to conduction a cross examination and then the plaintiff is allowed to redirect. The plaintiff would "rest" his case only after the last witness was excused by the judge.
