Mariah Carey is famous for topping the charts. In fact, she holds the record for the most number-one hits by a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 (19), and she became the first artist ever to hit number-one in four different decades. But of course no one can send every song they’ve recorded to the top of the charts. A number of Carey’s greatest hits didn’t reach the summit, but they belong in any discussion of her storied career. Scroll down for our countdown of her best non-chart-toppers.
Early in her career it was hard to find Carey singles anywhere but number-one. The first four from her very first album reached that position. The 1990s continued at that same pace: a whopping 14 of her chart leaders were released in that decade. The 2000s were less auspicious for her: she had career and tabloid trouble when her movie “Glitter” and its accompanying soundtrack underperformed.

Will Packer has been named Producer of the 94th Annual Academy Awards, set for March 27.
This will be the first Oscar show to be produced by Packer, a prolific producer of numerous films and TV projects including Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along, Girls Trip, the Think Like a Man films and the television remake of Roots, for which he received an Emmy nomination. But his credits do not include a lot of live TV projects, so taking on the Oscars will be a relatively new experience. His wide-ranging credits in comedy give hope that he also will be creating a fun Academy Awards.
The Academy clearly is looking for fresh ideas and new directions after the pandemic-affected, critically derided and record-low-rated 2021 telecast produced by the trio of Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins. Of course the ratings collapse of that show, which was delayed to April 25, was not entirely...

Netflix thinks Addison Rae is all that.
So much so that the streamer has signed the TikTok star to a multi-picture deal.
Rae recently made her acting debut with a starring role in Netflix’s “He’s All That,” a gender-swapped remake of the 1999 high school rom-com “She’s All That.”
“Getting the opportunity to work with Netflix was such a pinch me moment and now to be able to continue the relationship is beyond my wildest dreams,” Rae said. “I’m thrilled to be able to collaborate with this incredible team and am excited to develop projects while continuing to strengthen my skills as an actress.”
The streamer’s director of family film Naketha Mattocks said, “Addison’s Rae’s charm and promise is undeniable as evidenced by ‘He’s All That’ and her already passionate fan base. We’re thrilled to be part of this next phase of her burgeoning career as an actress.

Will Packer Productions and Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Studios are teaming to develop an untitled project based on Evan Ratliff’s Bloomberg article, “The Fall of the Billionaire Gucci Master.”
The companies won the rights in a highly competitive situation and have set up the project at Universal Pictures.
Ratliff’s article digs into the story of Nigerian Instagram influencer Ramon Abbas. The figure otherwise known as Hushpuppi, or the Billionaire Gucci Master, is alleged to have perfected a simple internet scam that allowed him to launder millions of dollars.
Packer and Abu’s project is described as a globetrotting action thriller — a hybrid of Catch Me If You Can and The Usual Suspects.
Writer discussions are said to be progressing quickly.
Will Packer and James Lopez will produce through their Will Packer Productions, with Abudu producing for EbonyLife.
“EbonyLife is uniquely positioned to ensure the depth and authenticity of this film,...

Mariah Carey is always on time. And though the "Wipe It Down" challenge took over TikTok a year ago, the pop legend just breathed new life into it with her contribution that also celebrates the 12th anniversary of her unbothered anthem, "Obsessed," which came out June 16, 2009.
Set to the now-familiar tune of BMW Kenny's "Wipe It Down," Carey's take on the trend shows her wiping down a mirror in a face mask, hair rollers, and one of her many robes. With one wipe, Carey's usual ultraglam self appears, and then with another, we suddenly see the obsessed fan at the center of the "Obsessed" music video who definitely wasn't modeled after Eminem. Definitely not. Watch the cinematic masterpiece below.

Mariah Carey may be feeling just a little slim shady. It's been 12 years since the "Honey" singer first shook up the music charts with her hit single "Obsessed"—long presumed to be aimed at rapper Eminem and what she saw as his, well, obsession with her. And in honor of the celebratory occasion, Mariah recently used the song as backing for her entry into the popular "Wipe It Down" TikTok challenge. In the short video, not only does Mariah go from dressed down to glammed up with a seamless transition, but there's another cameo: The "Slim Shady" rapper himself. (Okay, fine, it's clearly...

Another month of avoiding social contact lies ahead, which means our old pal Netflix is likely to keep us company a little more than usual in the warm month of June. If you’re planning to close the curtains, pop the popcorn and binge until you can’t feel feelings anymore, the streaming service will certainly have you covered.
June will see the return of 13 Reasons Why for its fourth and final season, Queer Eye will be back for another a cathartic cryfest, a new season of F Is For Family also awaits, as do further blocks of Ryan Murphy’s The Politician and German time-bending sci-fi series, Dark. Elsewhere, Spike Lee brings a stacked cast back to Vietnam in search of lost treasure in Da 5 Bloods, while Eurovision gets the Hollywood treatment thanks to Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, who are playing Iceland’s hopeful favourites in Netflix...

Jim Gaffigan is preparing to play former Toronto mayor Rob Ford in a scripted series currently in the works at AMC, Variety has learned exclusively.
Jesse McKeown will write and executive produce, with Ed Helms and Mike Falbo executive producing under their Pacific Electric Picture Co. banner. Michael Dowse will executive produce and direct.
The dark comedy series would detail the rise and fall of the controversial Ford, who served as the mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014 after many years as a city councilor. He was infamously caught on video smoking crack cocaine during his reelection campaign and was known to suffer from other substance abuse issues.
Should the project move forward it would not be the first onscreen depiction of Ford. Damian Lewis played Ford in the film “Run This Town,” which debuted at SXSW last year.

Drake’s latest Number One single “Toosie Slide” is either the most radical viral hit ever created, or the most jaded. Despite being an all-ages instructional dance number, it carries none of the slaphappy elation of songs like “Cha-Cha Slide” or “Baby Shark.” Instead, it channels the spirit of that girl who wiped away tears as she performed Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” TikTok challenge, or that kid who wept as his mom filmed him doing Fortnite dances as punishment. “Toosie Slide” is disarmingly wistful and totally bereft of joy, as...

Will Packer’s movies have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, with 10 films that opened at number one. However, “a lot of people think I just popped up with Will Packer Productions,” Packer said. “They don’t know about the grind years and years and years before that.”
Packer made his first film, “Chocolate City,” when he was an engineering undergrad at Florida A&m University in 1994. Scrappy indies led to direct-to-video “urban” features to low-budget genre titles like Beyonce’s fatal-attraction drama “Obsessed” (2009) and the Taraji P. Henson thriller “No Good Deed” (2014). The reviews were often unimpressive, but all were made for a price, all featured black casts, and all made money.
Today he leads his eponymous production company, with credits that include the “Ride Along” franchise as well as critically acclaimed titles like “Girls Trip,” “Straight Outta Compton,” and most recently “The Photograph” starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield.
