Only three of the five interviews had been secured when the film crew arrived in Bulgaria. A fourth had been planned but she changed her mind and was replaced by Nikolay Stefanov at the last minute.
The reenactment of the killing was shot on the same street as the real life incident.
The interview with Jordan Opitz was shot in his room at Kazichene Prison. It took Teodor Todorov and Robin Chambers three trips to the prison before they were allowed to speak to Opitz, and to secure the interview they not only needed his permission but also that of the prison warden and the Ministry of Justice.
The hardest interview to get was Vladimir Mindov. The crew were told he was on a methadone program so they searched around clinics in Sofia and eventually found him two days before shooting.
