Several good components, but the script sinks it

Warning: Spoilers
"Familienfieber" or "Family Fever" is a German movie from 2014, so two more years until this one has its 5th anniversary. The writer and director is Nico Sommer and I liked his previous film Silvi quite a bit, so I also got curious about this one here. Sadly, my hopes weren't fulfilled. The cast is fairly good, especially taking into account that I don't know any of the cast members except Waligura and since I came across her as Schwester Stefanie it's been a long time too. As for the story, this is about a young couple who have their families meet each other and we find out that the mother from one of them and the father of the other are having an affair for quite a while and they did not know about their children's relationship. This is the core of it all. Sadly, it was neither a good character story nor really interesting to watch on other occasions. The big problem here was that the film never felt realistic. Seeing the characters I would have expected the two guilty ones to remain silent, but at least it added some drama to this really slow and uninspiring film, even if it did not feel, authentic. Then there is suddenly some sexual tension between the other two. And then the younger couple has some relationship issues too and then finally there is a pregnancy etc. It just did not feel like taken out of real life, so maybe you can enjoy it as a fantasy comedy or something, but the dramatic aspects weren't convincing at all. A bit of a pity as I felt the film had in terms of performances and production values really all that was needed for a better outcome. But the script simply wasn't good enough. I suggest you skip this one as I myself was pretty glad this was such a short film.

I recommend. This is an excellent German movie available on Netflix. Drama with elements of comedy or comedy with elements of drama? In my view it is the latter. Two couples go through mid-life crisis/ married life boredom. Their paths cross unexpectedly. Many truly hilarious moments will keep you entertained. The acting is excellent. There no "scenes" that usually present in this kind of movies (Hollywood). It is a calm and humorous reflection of unexpected encounter. The portrayal of a married life routine is so accurate and hilarious at the same time. Nobody knows why they do what they do, they just do it to break a routine and boredom.
