“Is this, like, a known thing?” asks a confused kid in this new SNL promo for this week’s The David S. Pumpkins Animated Halloween Special. The millions who watched last year’s viral SNL video of Tom Hanks as the pumpkin-suited David no doubt wondered the same. So popular was the sketch – which featured Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan as dancing skeletons – that NBC has cartoon-ized it into a half-hour Halloween special. Done in a sort-of throwback style to ’70s-era…...

Marvel has planted its seeds far and wide over the past few years in the television landscape, but that volume has so far yielded mixed results.
While rival DC has found success by focusing on familiar franchises like “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl,” and the Batman origins tale on “Gotham,” Marvel has been a bit more stingy with its marquee characters. For example, ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” lives in the world of the Avengers, yet never became a hit partly because it focused on lesser-known characters.
But that’s not always a hindrance. Many of Marvel’s Netflix series, especially “Jessica Jones,” have been critically acclaimed partly because they felt like they hadn’t been overly mined previously. It takes a visionary showrunner, in this age of so many superhero tales, to bring a fresher take to the genre and keep interest high.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hit a major milestone in their yearlong relationship at the Invictus Games on Saturday when they made their first public appearance as a couple. During the annual sporting event's opening ceremony in Toronto, Meghan was spotted in the stands with Soho House director Markus Anderson while Harry, who took the stage to introduce the games, had to sit a few rows away with First Lady Melania Trump, whom he met at a photocall earlier that day. Even though we didn't get to see them together together, it's still a huge deal - and how cute did Meghan look in her purple dress and leather jacket? On Monday, the couple arrived hand in hand for the wheelchair tennis event; they both kept it casual in jeans and were all smiles while chatting in their seats and cheering on the participants. They also made sure to mingle...

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been dating since Summer 2016, and the couple has reportedly hit a huge milestone in their royal romance. On Wednesday, a source close to the prince revealed that Meghan was introduced to Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Sept. 3 during a weekend away at the family's Birkhall estate in Scotland. "Harry decided to take Meghan to visit as he hadn't been up yet all Summer," Us Weekly reported, adding that another big reason for the trip was "to introduce Meghan to the queen." The pair popped by the queen's Summer residence at Balmoral Castle, and the meeting "went well," with the source going on to say, "It'll no doubt be the first of many encounters." Great love stories live or die by their timing. When do you meet the person? Are they already in a relationship? Is it the right moment for either of you to commit? And that’s just the beginning of the story — timing continues to play a huge role in whether two people can actually make things work, long-term.
So it’s no wonder that “Outlander,” one of TV’s most intriguing love stories, is also obsessed with time, especially in Season 3. This is, of course, a literal obsession, given that this adventure began when former combat nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe) fell through a crack in reality and found herself transported from 1945 to the 18th Century, where she ends up falling in love with rogue Scotsman Jamie (Sam Heughan).
However, the show is always smartly engaged with the fact that the best characters are those who are changed by events and time,...

“One Mississippi” is more than the sum of its parts, because it loves each and every part of itself so very much.
Tig Notaro’s semi-autobiographical Amazon series has a laid-back Southern pacing that sucks you in, like the warm waters of the river it’s named after; the episode arcs are deliberate, clear, and eloquent, much like the radio show Tig’s character hosts and the real-life Tig contributed to (“This American Life”); but most of all, the six-episode sequel season is beautiful in its intentions and construction — a loving ode to a life made better by acknowledging the past to improve upon the future.

During a recent interview with Sunday People, Prince Harry's cousin-in-law, Mike Tindall, spoke out about Harry's year-long relationship with the Suits actress, saying that despite the "nerve-racking" experience of dating a royal, Meghan "has been under enough scrutiny and pressure in her day-to-day life, so I'm sure she will get through it. The 18th Annual Animation Show of Shows Sva Theater, NYC
I became an animation fan -- a true aficionado -- early in life. It had little or nothing to do with children's shows on television (Hanna-Barbera, Speed Racer, Gigantor, et al), though I watched and liked most of them. Rather, it was probably when I first saw Fantasia (likely mid-1960s), and then The Jungle Book (1967) and (of course!) The Beatles' Yellow Submarine (1968). By that time, I was actively looking for good (or great) animation. I was not a fan of Disney (though I have a sentimental fondness for The Aristocats (1970)), and anime feature films did not become widely known in the U.S. until the 1980s.
So when I heard about something called the Fantastic Animation Festival in 1977, I made sure to check it out. Comprised of a series of 18 animated short films, it was exactly what animation aficionados were looking for.

I stumbled across a Reddit post today that’s getting a decent amount of attention and I wanted to share it with all of you. As all of us know, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is immensely popular as evidenced by his movies grossing billions of dollars and he being the higher paid actor in Hollywood right now. But what exactly has he done in his films to draw these kinds of ticket sales? Is it anything? I mean he’s really the second coming of Schwarzenegger but do his movies even compare to Arnold movies? Here’s the query posted by the redditor
What has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Done in Films to Earn the Popularity He Has Right Now?...

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of April 3 to April 9, this is what we’re most excited about:
Why We're Obsessed With 'Africa's Hunters'
It’s time to get up close and personal with some of Africa’s most iconic predators in this six-part series. In the Zambian wilderness, where lions, leopards and hyenas compete for their next meal, we can expect no mercy from these carnivores. With a revolutionary thermal camera and producers who camped in close proximity, Smithsonian Earth brings us into the secret world of these leaders, highlighting the family dramas as they build allegiances, fight for family, suffer the loss of offspring and search for mates. Although this isn’t a Lion King remake, you can still expect a powerful storyline.
Movies: Donald Glover Cast as Simba in 'Lion King' Remake
Africa’s Hunters airs Fridays on Smithsonian Earth.

It’s been a busy week for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, as the marketing campaign for the film has finally kicked into gear ahead of tomorrow’s full trailer reveal. It all began with a brief promo focusing on Aquaman, who also received his very own character poster. Following on from that, we got the same treatment for both Batman and the Flash. Now, it’s Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman who gets her chance in the spotlight.
Done in the same style as the previous teasers, this one’s also just as short, not giving us a whole lot to feast on. There’s a brief shot of Diana out of costume, along with a few glimpses of the hero all suited up and ready for battle. Finally, before the promo ends, we get to see her using her powers on an unknown enemy as the familiar rock...

With filming having taken place all the way back in the fall of 2015, “War Machine” is a movie we hoped would’ve popped up somewhere on the festival circuit last year. It’s taken a bit longer for everything to come together, but that doesn’t make us any less excited for the picture that combines the talents of “Animal Kingdom” director David Michod and Brad Pitt.

From, literally, the film’s opening title cards, Roma announces itself as something of a visual feast. A blood-red screen introduces us to the proceedings, with the four letters making up the Italian name for the nation’s capital of Rome fading in in all of their grand, pitch black glory. It’s a bombastic introduction to one of director Federico Fellini’s most esoteric and yet deeply personal motion pictures.
Also known in some circles as Fellini’s Roma, film critic Vincent Canby was right in suggesting that that specific title might be the real way we should look at this picture. While taking the title from the real capital city of Italy, this is not a Rome anyone recognizes at first glance. Seemingly a journey through the streets of a Rome from a universe just adjacent to ours, Fellini all but neglects anything truly resembling a coherent narrative,...

While the fall festival is where studios go to launch their awards season contenders, it’s also where they test the waters with movies they aren’t quite sure about in terms of their Oscar potential. Such was the case with Sony Pictures Classics and “Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer” which played Telluride and Tiff, and didn’t make a big noise, though got some pleasant reviews (including one from us).

Chicago – Like many of the creatures or villains it inspires, the horror genre has been slowly decaying for years now. In a time of reboots and tired sequels, 2016 has shown us glimpses of future promise by revisiting elements of the past. Flanagan continues this hot streak, one he helped create with “Hush” earlier this year, with the prequel “Ouija: Origin of Evil”.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Mike Flanagan is slowly becoming a welcome force in the horror genre. He grabbed our attention with the visual mindfuck that is “Oculus”. His visual style is an art form all its own. Done in an almost Del Toro style, Flanagan loves playing with form and tone in an unconventional way. He finds the beauty in the darkness, the humor in the horror, and the humanity in the inhumane. Aside from successfully recreating the aesthetic of the 60’s in “Ouija: Origin of Evil”, he also channels that...

Because such thought was put into making this issue stand out on it’s own, it made me much more excited as a reader to go back and check out the previous three issues of this story.

This week's number is hands down the weirdest entry in Judy's filmography. It doesn't fit neatly into Judy's biography or star image; it really appears to be one of those things that happened because the timing was right.
